Writer and director Zach Braff does a masterful job matching the charming, heartfelt tone of films like The Graduate and Rushmore in his motion picture debut, Garden State, so it only makes sense that the music he personally compiled for the soundtrack plays just as of big a part here as it did in those films. Simon & Garfunkel's languorous "The Only Living Boy in New York" is an obvious thread, but aside from Nick Drake's "One of These Things First," Braff is able to carry the mood without getting tripped up in the past. Frou Frou's "Let Go" and Zero 7's "In the Waiting Line" supply soft techno touches, while Iron & Wine's "Such Great Heights" and former Men at Work singer Colin Hay's "I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You" offer understated angst. It's the pair of emotionally racked contributions from the Shins ("Caring Is Creepy," "New Slang"), however, that really make this compilation a must-have. --Aidin Vaziri

Repeating the feat that accompanied his directorial debut, Garden State, Zach Braff has again put together a tastefully assembled compilation of music. The track listing reads like a cherry-picked bouquet of refined American singer-songwriters (Fiona Apple, Aimee Mann, Rufus Wainwright, Ray Lamontagne), sprinkled with literate-yet-popular UK combos (Snow Patrol, Athlete, Turin Brakes) and the lone international megaband (Coldplay, already on Garden State). Based on the selection, Braff is the kind of guy who isn't afraid to show his sensitive side (that'd be the American songs, especially Apple's "Paper Bag" and Aimee Mann's "Today's the Day"), but who also likes to hang out at soft-rock clubs with his cool mates (that'd be the British songs, especially Snow Patrol's "Chocolate" and Turin Brakes' Simon & Garfunkel-like "Pain Killer"). Really, it's a win-win combinationexcept for those who prefer their rock more rocking, since the mood is, overall, really mellow. This soundtrack offers a pretty standard mix of new songs, old chestnuts, and excerpts from the score (here by John Debney). On the new tip, Joss Stone and Patti LaBelle engage in an overheated battle of the divas on CD opener "Stir It Up," a bouncy piece of fluff that sounds more like Aretha Franklin circa "Freeway of Love" than classic soul. Other originals include Barenaked Ladies' "One Little Slip" (this movie's answer to Counting Crows' "Accidentally in Love" from Shrek 2) and the Cheetah Girls' peppy-but-bland cover of "Shake Your Tail Feather." But the real highlights are the songs performed by the movie's vocal cast, which includes Joan Cusack, Garry Marshall, Zach Braff, Steve Zahn, and Amy Sedaris. Their group cover of Elton John and Kiki Dee's "Don¹t Go Breaking My Heart," for instance, sounds as if half of them were drunk in the recording studio (and this is meant as a compliment.) Braff's a cappella version of "We Are the Champions" is smashing and Cusack and Zahn's take on the Spice Girls' "Wannabe" is completely demented. The kids will laugh; their parents will laugh even harder for completely different reasons. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

A classic fable gets fused with War of the Worlds in Disney's Chicken Little. In the small town of Oakey Oaks, young Chicken Little (voiced by Zach Braff, Garden State) struggles to live down the embarrassment of having once thought the sky was falling. But when he gets struck again by a hexagonal, sky-camouflaged, hi-tech doohickey, he and his friends Ugly Duckling (Joan Cusack, School of Rock), Runt of the Litter (Steve Zahn, Sahara), and Fish Out of Water discover that aliens are preparing to invade Earth--but since no one believed Chicken Little the first time, why would they believe him now? Though kids will enjoy the bright whizz-bang action sequences of Chicken Little, discerning parents will find the movie tedious. Technically, it has the computer animation quality of Pixar--but with none of their intelligence, heart, or simple storytelling skill. The basic idea of connecting the fable to aliens is amusing, but the script routinely bogs down in clumsy father-son issues that seem like material edited out of Finding Nemo. The jokes rarely have anything to do with the characters, but are mostly pop-culture references that are sadly out of date. The action sequences were obviously created with the inevitable video game in mind, for which the movie is little more than an advertisement. Chicken Little falls flat. --Bret Fetzer

After viewing the gay ensemble film The Broken Hearts Club--the subtitle of which helpfully points out that it's "a romantic comedy"--you might feel as if you've been offered a discussion conundrum not unlike the kind that Mike Myers's Linda "Coffee Talk" Richman would put forward: "The Broken Hearts Club is neither romantic nor comedic. Discuss." What it is, rather, is a gay male version of Steel Magnolias, right down to the funeral scene and hospital visit. While decidedly less melodramatic than that Southern chick flick, it still aspires to a kind of big-group love-in feeling that's only vaguely comic. And romance? Well, there's some somewhere, when the characters aren't carping about how the only thing they're good at is being gay. They all wrestle with their Big Issues--should Patrick (Ben Weber) donate sperm so his sister can have a baby with her lesbian lover? Will cynical Dennis (Timothy Olyphant) finally admit he loves just-out-of-the-closet Kevin (Andrew Keegan)? How will love-'em-and-leave-'em Cole (Dean Cain) feel when he's rejected by the closeted movie star?--but to little effect, despite some snappy one-liners and occasional keen observances of gay culture. Writer-director Greg Berlanti's screenplay still feels about two or three drafts away from completion, and when faced with stalling action, he opts for a montage set to one of many Carpenters' songs (covers, not the actual hits themselves). Kudos go to the acidic Weber for infusing what could have been a whiny character with a dry, intelligent wit, and the surprisingly charming Cain, who makes Cole someone you can't really hate too much despite all his faults--it would be like hating a puppy. If only all the characters were half as appealing. --Mark Englehart

The sitcom may be flatlining, but as long as there are fresh and original series like Scrubs, the prognosis isn't entirely negative. Created by Bill Lawrence, Scrubs is an interns'-eye view of hospital life and the torturous, tragic, and triumphant route to becoming a doctor. The eminently likeable Zach Braff heads the cast as "newbie" J.D., whose years of medical school haven't quite prepared him for chaotic Sacred Heart Hospital. Family Guy has nothing on the live-action Scrubs when it comes to surreal asides and fantasy sequences (for example, J.D. literally becomes the proverbial deer in the headlights when he cannot answer a medical query), pop culture references, and TV Land casting (John Ritter guest stars as J.D.'s negligent father in "My Old Man," and St. Elsewhere veterans William Daniels, Ed Begley, Jr., Stephen Furst, and Eric Laneuville appear as Legionnaire's-stricken doctors in "My Sacrifical Clam"). With surgical precision, this inaugural season charts J.D.'s growth as a doctor and a human being, and the close-knit bonds he forms with his equally overwhelmed peers and colleagues, including best friend and surgeon Chris Turk (Donald Faison), beautiful, but raw-nerved and by-the-book Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke), and supportive nurse Carla Espinoza (Judy Reyes'), who affectionately nicknames J.D. "Bambi." But at the heart of the series is J.D.'s relationship with his mentor, Dr. Cox (an Emmy-worthy John C. McGinley), a cross between Obi-Wan Kenobi and a pit bull. Giving Scrubs a further shot of adrenaline are recurring characters Jordan (Christa Miller Lawrence), Dr. Cox's satanic ex-wife, and Neil Flynn as the Janitor, who torments J.D. just as Larry Miller menaced Jerry in the Seinfeld episode "The Doorman." Scrubs' animated sensibility allows for inexplicable cameos by Jimmie Walker or, at one point, an impromptu West Side Story-esque dance-off to convey the schism between the surgeons and other doctors. But while hilariously funny, Scrubs, too, can break your heart, as in the two-parter "My Occurrence"/"My Hero," with guest star Brendan Fraser as Jordan's spontaneously spirited brother, who is diagnosed with leukemia, and "My Old Lady," in which J.D., Elliot, and Chris experience for the first time losing a patient. Scrubs is one of NBC's few remaining "Must-See" series, but it has not been well-served by the network. Whether you're a "newbie" or devoted viewer, this DVD release is just what the doctor ordered. --Donald Liebenson

All New People is a slick, lively and contemporary comedy written by award-winning screenwriter and well-known actor Zach Braff. The dead of winter, Long Beach Island, New Jersey, Charlie, has hit rock bottom. Away from the rest of the world, this perfect escape is interrupted by a motley parade of misfits who show up and change his plans. A hired beauty, a fireman, and an eccentric British real estate agent desperately trying to stay in the country all suddenly find themselves tangled together in a beach house where the mood is anything but sunny. This pithy piece portrays a scenario of attempted suicide with mordant humour, where a basis of social alienation leads to unexpected connections. The richly-drawn characters are quick-witted and narcissistic yet self-aware and the dialogue is fluid and witty. All New People is centred around a clever concept which works as a catalyst for both angst-fuelled scrutiny and morbid humour.

The Unthinkable Thoughts of Jacob Green

It's 1977. Jacob Green, a Jewish kid from suburban New Jersey, sits on the stairs during his family's housewarming party, waiting for his father, Abram--charming host, everyone's best friend, and amateur emcee--to introduce him to the crowd. Housewarming parties, Annie Hall parties, and bar mitzvah parties punctuate Jacob's childhood and require command performances by all the Green family members. But when the confetti settles and the drapes are drawn, the affable Abram Green becomes an egotistical tyrant whose emotional rages rupture the lives of his family.Jacob doesn't mean to disappoint his father, but he can't help thinking the most unthinkable (and very funny) thoughts about public-school humiliation, Hebrew-school disinclination, and in-home sex education (with the live-in nanny!). If only his mother hadn't started college at thirty-six (and fallen for her psychology professor). If only he were more like his rebellious older brother (suspended from Hebrew school for drawing the rabbi in a threesome with a lobster and a pig). If only Jacob could confront his overbearing father and tell him he doesn't want to sing in synagogue, attend est classes, write the perfect thank-you note, or even live in the same house with Abram Green. But, of course, he can't. That would be unthinkable. This self-assured, comic, yet piercing first novel deftly captures the struggle of an imperfect boy trying to become a suitable son.

Here are some more information for Zach Braff:

The Scrubs is a popular TV series that instantly became a hit as soon it was launched in 2001. Over the years the series had been nominated for two Golden Globes and for 9 Emmy awards. The series started with a moderate but respectable fan base but has since then quickly build up a large fan base. The interesting thing about the series is that it takes a different approach to medical series and to sitcoms with all of its quirky characters and its different humor style.
The series had been created by Bill Lawrence who had also created Spin City. The Scrubs seasons 1-8 evolves with funny incidences and hilarious episodes. It is a spoof on other medical dramas that became so famous ever since ER became popular. It takes a lighter approach to the medical world rather than the tense, depressing one which is commonly seen in most series in this genre.
The Scrubs has been filmed in an actual hospital in Hollywood and follows the quirky character of John Dorian played by Zach Braff, or as he is popularly known, J. D. His best college friend is Christopher Turk, played by Donald Faison. Both of these characters are medical interns and have to learn the ropes of a real life hospital scenario in Sacred Heart Hospital. However, the hospital is an unbelievable medley of quirky characters and a dysfunctional working environment.
Over the seasons as J.D. tries to make sense of what goes on everyday in the hospital he comes across several characters like Doctor Elliot Reid, played by Sarah Chalke who is another intern and J.D. quickly gets interested in her. Then there is Doctor Bob Kelso, played by Ken Jenkins, who is the Chief at the hospital. Carla Espinos is a nurse and quite pessimist at that, the janitor has a weird sarcastic sense of humor while Dr. Perry Cox is as abrasive as it gets.
The series became successful because the cast is strong, the acting is flawless and the script is written quite well with a clever sense of humor. The characters are all quite unique and there are several memorable performances in the series. Sarah Chalke and Donald Faison are both known talents and Zach Braff, the lead character is hilarious and fit for his character.
The Scrubs Seasons 1-8 are packed with several hilarious episodes that follow the strange cases and the witty sense of humor of the characters as they try to learn the in and outs of the hospital. The guest characters and the regular ones all make the series interesting with their good delivery timing and their character portrayal.

Zach Braff of 'scrubs' Attends Fundraiser in Pennsylvania
The seventh and final season of Scrubs will start shooting in August, thus the cast and crew have a lot of time to just relax and unwind. Take into consideration Zach Braff who recently flew to central Pennsylvania to attend a family related event. Apparently, his cousin, Emily Watson, called in to request his presence in her restaurant, Glass Lounge, for an important event.
Glass Lounge is a popular stakehouse in Harrisburg that has been in the possession of the Braffs since 1985. Last Sunday, a fundraiser was held at the said venue. The fundraiser's objective was to raise awareness about autism. Watson's four year old daughter, Megan, was diagnosed with the brain development disorder last year.
Together with her husband Sean, Emily decided to hold the fundraiser in the spirit of gratitude to the agencies that helped take care of Megan.
"The support is absolutely there and I think what we're learning is everybody somewhere, somehow has some connection to autism whether it be a brother, sister, cousin, niece, nephew whatever it is there's some connection so if there's anyway we can help bring awareness -- we're happy to do that," Watson said.
Zach Braff, who plays JD in Scrubs, said that he attended the fundraiser in support of his relatives.
"[Autism] has impacted my family… when Emily's daughter was diagnosed with autism we all felt it and we all wanted to learn more about it and what we could do to help her," said the Scrubs star.
The 32 year old actor was born and raised in New Jersey, and while growing up, his greatest influence was his aunt, Susan Sayers. He is very close to his family, unlike the lead character in his film, Garden State.
In talking about Sayers, Braff said, "She's a tremendously strong, loving woman. She's funny and happy and she loves the arts and film. She's been a great inspiration in my life."

Is Zach Braff mean in person? Does he have an attitude?
I was watching some show on VH1 about celebrities and when they were talking about the rude ones they showed a picture of Zach Braff when the song was talking about attitude... I don't know if this meant anything, it just confuses me. I tried to look it up on Google and just found a few sites talking about how much they hate him because of Garden State... I don't understand! Does anyone know anything about him?
can you imagine being bugged all day about every little detail of your life? I doubt he is mean. . I don't think he owes us anything.
