The annals of Movie and TV history are full of iconic images of beautiful women. Surprisingly, some of the most memorable are of actors and actresses in modest swimwear, which proves that it doesn't just take a lot of skin to make something sexy.

For instance, most people remember the TV show "Baywatch," but not because of the stellar acting. When the word, Baywatch comes up, the first thought is likely Pamela Anderson strutting around in her red, lifeguard one-piece swimsuit. Nobody complained that she was wearing relatively modest swimwear. They just stared at her in all her modest swimwear glory. Remember that Baywatch introduction theme?

Sun glistens off a crescent wave as a lifeguard, surrounded by gulls, watches over the rolling surf. Enter the drums and keyboard. The images switch to windsurfers. The music crescendos. Peter Cetera's voice blasts "Some people stand in the darkness" as the camera shots switch from crowded beaches and lifeguards in action to the backside of women in bikinis. It then quickly transitions to the Baywatch lifeguard team walking in unison in their one-piece swimsuits - in direct contrast to all the other scantily clad ladies on the beach.

Then enters David Hasselhoff on the bow of a speedboat, then running on the beach. All the while, Cetera sings, "I'll be ready" and "Don't you fear." Then it shows the real stars of the show. First it starts with Pamela Anderson. First she's swimming underwater, then the scene quickly transitions to a shot of her profile silhouetted by waves crashing in the background, fully showing her dressed in modest swimwear.

Then it's Yasmine Bleeth's turn. The first is a brief shot of her riding a waverunner. Then it turns to the blatant I'm-sexy pose, as she's coming out of the water in slow motion putting her hands through her hair. As like Anderson, she's still wearing modest swimwear. Then it shows a couple of the dudes, David Chokachi and Jeremy Jackson, who star in the show. But it soon goes back to Gena Lee Nolin coming out of some door in a black one piece, looking up as wind blows her long locks in another slow-motion-I'm-sexy pose.

Most of the women on Baywatch got famous because they appeared on that show. But, really, it wasn't because of the script, the storylines, and the great acting. The TV show was cheesy and awful. But, it still kept people watching and was highly successful. And no, it wasn't David Hasselhoff that kept people tuning in. People, whether they admitted it or not, tuned in to see hot women in swimsuits - modest swimwear of all things. It could be argued that Pamela Anderson's Baywatch swimsuit is the most recognizable of all of her work. The swimsuits on Baywatch were sexy, and modest. No one argues that.

Two other modest swimwear iconic images include Bo Derek and Farrah Fawcett.

Derek's iconic image came in the film, "10," when she ran along the beach sporting corn rows and that famous, one piece swimsuit. It's so memorable that Martin Lawrence in "Big Momma's House 2" recreated it, as he thundered down the beach in his fat lady disguise showing off the same corn rows and yellow nylon suit, and crashing next to a male sunbather. Lawrence, however, didn't run with the same grace that Derek did.

Farrah Fawcett made modest swimwear sexy before she even thought about Charlie's Angels. She was a shampoo model with ambitions to become an actor when she was photographed in that red, one-piece swimsuit that would sell 12 million posters. That image from 1976 is still enrapturing pubescent boys today.

Fawcett herself chose the modest swimwear for the shot over a scantier bikini because of a childhood scar on her stomach. From that point on she got more TV and movie roles. The modest swimwear poster led to her posing in an issue of Playboy in December of 1995. Nobody would argue that Fawcett should have donned a more revealing swimsuit. Her iconic image proves that modest swimwear is sexy.

In 2003, she was arrested and charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance after breaking into her boyfriend’s Los Angeles home. Only four hours later, Love was rushed to the hospital after overdosing on Oxycontin. To this day, Courtney Love is still in and out of rehab, and has been arrested multiple times in the past few years.

#3. Drew Barrymore is the Godmother to Courney Love’s daughter, go figure! At age 9, Drew was already a regular cigarette smoker and drinker. There are photos of this girl dancing on bar stools at bars before she even hit puberty! At 10 Drew started smoking Marijuana and by 12 she was snorting Cocaine. At least by the time she hit adulthood, this movie star cleaned up her act and became substance free.

#2. Whitney Houston has been in and out of rehab since getting caught in an airport with Marijuana in her luggage. She has admitted to abusing Alcohol, Marijuana, Cocaine, and Pills. Whitney’s sister-in-law has told reports that Houston was addicted to Crack and that she almost overdosed several times. This one time Diva of all Divas is super messed up!

#1. Robert Downey Jr. began smoking Marijuana regularly at the age of 6. Drugs was what he grew up with and by the time he hit age 22, Downey had developed a serious drug problem. He’s been arrested with multiple drug and weapons charges. He was also in and out of prison but continued to use Crack Cocaine and Heroin. For years this actor has been drugged up. However, he has been clean for five years now. But that doesn’t stop the cops, they still pull Downey over quite frequently because they think he could be under the influence.
