But Sophie accidentally comes across the truth in her mother’s diary that mentions three intimate dates with three different men. Not knowing who her father is she invites all three men to her wedding without bringing it to her mother’s attention. Along with the three men a couple of Donna’s old friends also show up at the wedding who were part of the Donna and the Dynamos trio almost twenty years ago. The man she believes to be her father is asked by Sophie to be given away by. But her mother’s friends also want to give her away. Eventually the task falls on Donna’s shoulders which lead to Sam’s confrontation with Donna regarding the paternity. With the advancement of the scene it is revealed that Sam and Donna are still very much in love. Sophie's paternity remains undetermined and she starts having doubts about her marriage and drops it, instead Donna and Sam get married.
A film has also been made based on the musical mamma mia on broadway show which has been directed by Phyllida Lloyd and features stars such as Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.
