In some time the water had covered the tailors head. The man however kept his nerve and then suddenly the water went down and a voice told him that he had the super power.

As a proof of the power the tailor asked that a large tree nearby be uprooted and dutifully a terrific gale occurred and the tree was uprooted and fell on the side. The tale may or may not be believed but there is no reason for my grandfather to lie for nothing, so I am apt to believe it.

This shows that there are certain mantras which if recited can give you powers. Generally such men come in contact with the spirit world and develop occult powers.There are many such men who have developed these powers. But this shows that there is a spirit world and one can be in contact with that world generally through a medium.

The case of Ruth Montgomery is also worth examining.This lady who was a press reporter along with 6 US presidents had developed powers of a medium and could contact the spirit world. In fact she claimed that all her books were written by spirits who dictated these books to her. These books make excellent reading and give a glimpse of life after death.

Occult powers are generally related to evil spirits. These are those spirits that have not been able to enter the spirit world and are doomed for some time to remain in this world. These spirits can bring about dire retribution in case they are disturbed. Generally these spirits have done some grave wrong in society and suffer for that reason.

Little do most people know, again mostly due to all the misinformation and Hollywood’s perpetuation of the myths, is that there are actually several forms of Voodoo including Haitian Vodou, Louisiana Voodoo, and West African Vodun, which is probably the one people most identify with, even though it itself is grossly misrepresented. The amount of factual information online about any of these forms is sparse to say the least.

Voodoo black magic is what is most personified in the movies and throughout literature. The reason is obvious. It’s like the story about a crowd of people walking by a lady feeding pigeons in the park. Nobody stops to notice. But walk past a 10 car pileup on the freeway and everybody stops. Traffic backs up for miles. Evil is always more interesting than good.

You’re probably wondering why I am telling you all this. The reason is simple. Voodoo is more than just black magic. There is a lot of good that Voodoo can do, including actually healing people of their sins and diseases. ok,i am very interested in voodoo - i read a book recently set right after the slavery days in the south,one character was an old black lady who did these cool things,some were voodoo sounding,some were just odd - like,if she got a headache,someone would have to put a collander under the bed,and that cured it etc. and lots of superstitions - i live in the south so we do have some odd superstitions,but one in the book was - when an owl hoots someone will die soon etc. what are these things called - and how can i learn more about it. i want to know voodoo stuff,and like - old slave magic i guess ? sorry,i don't know what to call it - but it is facinating to me.i knew an older black lady who always talked about putting a "root" or curse on someone...? how can i find info..

First if you are attempting on trying some voodoo remember it isnt a game. I'd take it sierous.

Now as you know Voodoo traces back to African origins.

Voodoo or Hoodoo also refer to African-American folk spirituality of the southeastern USA, with roots in West African traditional or "folk" spirituality.

An evil, imaginary religion, which we will call Voodoo. It has been created for Hollywood movies, complete with violence, bizarre rituals, etc. It does not exist in reality.
