Why do guys hit on me when I am dressed in a vintage, old fashioned, but not in modern clothing?

I have a collection of vintage dresses from the 1930's-1920's, and sometimes I wear a 1930's or 1920's dress out, and sometimes I just wear cute, modern clothing like pants and a nice blouse. What is strange is that lots of guys have come up to me on the street and complimented me or asked me out when I am dressed in vintage dress and hat ( which if you know anything about 1930's dresses, they are pretty conservative), but it is much rarer that anyone comes up to me if I am dressed in modern clothing. Why is this?
