During the mutiny at the Nore, off Sheerness, which followed on from that at Spithead, only two ships captains managed to maintain some control of their commands. One of these was Captain Charles Cunningham of the frigate, Clyde. On 29 May, he managed to persuade his men to ignore the summons from the rebel leader Richard Parker, in the Sandwich, to a conference. Instead, at 21.00 that night, Cunningham assembled his crew and told them that

This picture shows iron-framed ships under construction in Archibald McMillan and Sons yard. This firm built some of the largest sailing ships on the Clyde. During 1855 two ships, the Ardberg, 925 tons, and the Jane Jack Mitchell, 980 tons, were launched from this yard and may be the ships shown here under construction. Scottish sailing barges, gabbarts, were also built here..

EMINEM THE SLIM SHADY LP

On The Slim Shady LP, Eminem wants it all. He's conflicted, you see; the world has treated him badly, and he wants to respond in kind. But he isn't a straight-up gangsta--this is, after all, the first release on Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records, his post-Death Row-era venture--and Eminem (born Marshall Mathers) doesn't really want anyone to follow in his footsteps, which leads to some interesting contradictions on this album. In the first single, "My Name Is," he's self-deprecating, rapping about his poor upbringing and his hairy palms. But on the very next song, "Guilty Conscience," he plays the devil to Dr. Dre's angel--that is, until Eminem brings up an incident from Dre's devilish past, rapping, "You gonna take advice from someone who slapped Dee Barnes?" Later, on "'97 Bonnie & Clyde," he turns Will Smith's "Just the Two of Us" on its ear, making it a tale of murder; but on "My Fault," he actually feels bad--though whether it's for the girl he overdosed or for himself is tough to figure out. With his nasal Midwestern tone, Mathers has a clean, clear flow, and the production--by Dr. Dre, Marky, and Jeff Bass--is crisp but consistently fun. With his outlook, it's tough to take Eminem too seriously, but he's made an album you don't have to take seriously to enjoy. --Randy Silver

Share in Walt Disney's extraordinary vision of pairing imaginative stories with spectacular music in Disney's 8th full-length animated classic, available for the first time ever.In the tradition of FANTASIA, MAKE MINE MUSIC is a glorious collection of musically charged animated shorts featuring such fun-filled favorites as "Peter And The Wolf," narrated by the beloved voice behind Winnie The Pooh. In addition, you'll enjoy such classic cartoon hits as "Casey At The Bat," "The Whale Who Wanted To Sing At The Met," and "Johnnie Fedora And Alice Bluebonnet," the whimsical adventure of two hats who fall in love in a department store window. Every member of your family will have a favorite in this musical medley of fun and fantasy from Disney! Product Measures: 0.61" x 5.34" x 7.5"

Sometimes referred to as "the Poor Man's Fantasia," Make Mine Music (1946) was the first of the "package features" Walt Disney released after World War II. Instead of Bach and Beethoven, the artists illustrated segments set to popular music by Benny Goodman, Dinah Shore, and the Andrews Sisters. Originally set to Debussy's "Claire de Lune," "Blue Bayou" remains an atmospheric evocation of the Everglades. "The Whale Who Wanted to Sing at the Met" is a charming fantasy about a cetacean with an extraordinary voice. "Peter and the Wolf," based on the Prokofiev score, offers brightly colored designs, but the narration by Sterling Holloway seems superfluous. "All the Cats Join In" is an upbeat evocation of the Bobby Sox era, but "Casey at the Bat" and "Johnny Fedora and Alice Bluebonnet" feel self-conscious and unfunny."Two Silhouettes" combines rotoscoped images of Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo stars Tatiana Riabouchinska and David Lichine with kitsch cupids, sparkles, and hearts. "The Martins and the Coys," a spoof of a hillbilly feud, has been excised in a bow to modern taste. The supplemental material includes The Band Concert, the first color Mickey Mouse short and one of the character's finest performances, and Music Land, a quirky Silly Symphony about clashing musical styles. --Charles Solomon

The Jungle Book 2 (Special Edition) The Jungle Book 2 (Special Edition)
List Price: $29.99

After a delightful opening, in which jungle boy Mowgli (voiced by Haley Joel Osment) recaps much of the original Jungle Book in a sprightly shadow puppet show, The Jungle Book 2 swiftly turns into a carbon copy of the splendidly swinging previous movie. After his old pal Baloo the bear (voiced by John Goodman) draws Mowgli away from the man-village, with all its work and rules, and back into the glorious indolence of the jungle, the movie repeats--in a less energetic form--an encounter with Kaa the snake, the cockney vultures, a musical number at the monkey's palace, the menace of Shere Khan the tiger, and even the song "The Bare Necessities." The only difference is that there's a girl named Shanti along for the ride; sadly, her character is so bland that it doesn't do much to justify the movie's existence. --Bret Fetzer

Green Lantern (+ UltraViolet Digital Copy) [Blu-ray] Green Lantern (+ UltraViolet Digital Copy) [Blu-ray]
List Price: $24.98
Sale Price: $13.49

Chosen to be the first human inducted into the cosmic peacekeeping force known as the Green Lantern Corps., hot-shot test pilot Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) is given a power ring capable of conjuring up anything he can imagine. Assuming the role of reluctant hero, Jordan must protect the Earth from Parallax, an evil alien entity that feeds on fear. Based on the DC Comics character, this sci-fi actioner also stars Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Angela Bassett, Mark Strong, and Tim Robbins. Extended cut.

As far as superheroes go, Green Lantern may lack the clean, iconic lines of his more respectable DC counterparts Superman and Batman, but the very wonkiness of the premise (earthling joins elite force of space cops) lends itself to a pulpy, operatic, not-entirely-serious approach. (One of his teammates is a talking carrot, after all.) Capitalizing on a charming performance by Ryan Reynolds, the feature-film adaptation is a big, messy movie that, at its best, generates a feeling of aw-shucks wonder. Much like Thor, it isn't afraid to loosen up on the inner turmoil of its hero and go macro. Based on comic writer Geoff Johns's retrofitting of the title character, the story follows Hal Jordan (Reynolds), an impulsive test pilot whose encounter with a dying alien leaves him with an energy ring capable of weaponizing his imagination. While struggling to master his will-based powers, he must deal with threats both earthbound (a hilariously nebbishy Peter Saarsgard, who may be the first supervillain to rock a hoodie) and galactic. Martin Campbell, a director who specializes in more down-to-earth heroics (Casino Royale,The Mask of Zorro), brings a pleasing matter-of-fact baseline to the proceedings, an approach that makes the increasingly outlandish effects truly feel special when they occur. Green Lantern has its debits, certainly--the lack of a memorable theme, a second act that hems and haws before getting to the action, the standard origin story shoehorning in too many secondary plots--but its final scenes succeed on a Gigantor, cosmic level where most superhero movies fear to tread. The bigger it goes, the more goofily enjoyable it gets. --Andrew Wright

Worry not, Disney fans--this special edition DVD of the beloved Cinderella won't turn into a pumpkin at the strike of midnight. One of the most enduring animated films of all time, the Disney-fied adaptation of the gory Brothers Grimm fairy tale became a classic in its own right, thanks to some memorable tunes (including "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes," "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo," and the title song) and some endearingly cute comic relief. The famous slipper (click for larger image) We all know the story--the wicked stepmother and stepsisters simply won't have it, this uppity Cinderella thinking she's going to a ball designed to find the handsome prince an appropriate sweetheart, but perseverance, animal buddies, and a well-timed entrance by a fairy godmother make sure things turn out all right. There are a few striking sequences of pure animation--for example, Cinderella is reflected in bubbles drifting through the air--and the design is rich and evocative throughout. It's a simple story padded here agreeably with comic business, particularly Cinderella's rodent pals (dressed up conspicuously like the dwarf sidekicks of another famous Disney heroine) and their misadventures with a wretched cat named Lucifer. There's also much harrumphing and exposition spouting by the King and the Grand Duke. It's a much simpler and more graceful work than the more frenetically paced animated films of today, which makes it simultaneously quaint and highly gratifying. --David Kronke DVD Features For another of its classic films, Disney delivers another dazzling DVD with a gorgeous, razor-sharp picture and 5.1 sound. (Note: the 1949 film is properly presented in full-screen format, 1.33 aspect ratio, because widescreen films weren't made until the '50s.) The best part of the supplemental features is the archival material, the absolute highlight of which is two unused songs, "Cinderella's Work Song" (in which Cinderella imagines multiplying herself à la the Sorcerer's Apprentice) and "Dancing on a Cloud." Bippity-boppity-boo! (click for larger image) Because these numbers were never animated, they're accompanied by stylish illustrations from the Disney artists, and they're simply marvelous to look at. The artist of much of that material, Mary Blair, gets her due in a 15-minute featurette, while the better known "Nine Old Men" are the subject of a round-table discussion among some of today's top animators. In addition, a 38-minute documentary covers their contributions to specific characters of Cinderella as well as the film in general and the vocal cast. Also on the historical side is "The Cinderella That Almost Was," tracking the development of the project through decades of original Disney concepts, characters, and songs, including the 1922 silent "Laugh-o-Gram," which is also included in its entirety. The pumpkin transformed (click for larger image) Additional musical material includes three radio programs and a short promo of the movie by Perry Como, in which he summarizes the plot amid some songs by the Fontaine Sisters, star Ilene Woods, and the host himself. Seven other unused songs (17 minutes total) are available in audio-only. The material for kids is on the sparse side, consisting of two music videos, Disney Channel personality Sally (from "Mike's Super Short Show") learning how to become a princess with the help of the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition crew and others, a minor dancing-princess feature, and a DVD-ROM design studio. Oddest extra: ESPN's "top Cinderella stories," including the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team and Joe Namath's New York Jets, although stories on Mia Hamm and tennis's Williams sisters should appeal to the film's primary target audience of young girls. --David Horiuchi Cinderella Throughout the Years Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella (1957 Television Production) Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella (1965) The Slipper and the Rose (1976) Faerie Tale Theatre - Cinderella (1982) Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella (1997) Ever After - A Cinderella Story(1998)

Sleeping Beauty (Two-Disc Platinum Edition) Sleeping Beauty (Two-Disc Platinum Edition)
List Price: $29.99
Sale Price: $18.90

Disney's 1959 animated effort was the studio's most ambitious to date, a widescreen spectacle boasting a gorgeous waltz-filled score adapting Tchaikovsky. In the 14th century, the malevolent Maleficent (not dissimilar to the wicked Queen in Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs taunts a king that his infant Aurora will fatally prick her finger on a spinning wheel before sundown on her 16th birthday. This, of course, would deny her a happily-ever-after with her true love. Things almost but not quite turn out that way, thanks to the assistance of some bubbly, bumbling fairies named Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. It's not really all that much about the title character--how interesting can someone in the middle of a long nap be, anyway? Instead, those fairies carry the day, as well as, of course, good Prince Phillip, whose battle with the malevolent Maleficent in the guise of a dragon has been co-opted by any number of animated films since. See it in its original glory here. And Malificent's castle, filled with warthogs and demonic imps in a macabre dance celebrating their evil ways, manages a certain creepy grandeur. --David Kronke On the DVDSleeping Beauty was the last and most lavish of Walt Disney's animated fairy tales. He told the artists not to hurry and to give him "a moving illustration": The film required almost four and one-half years and one million finished drawings. Instead of the 19th century storybook illustrations that had influenced the look of Snow White and Pinocchio, the artists adapted the flattened perspective and jewel-like colors of 15th century French illuminated manuscripts. The results remain unmatched for sheer visual opulence. However, Sleeping Beauty suffers from a weak story: the vision of an ageless princess slumbering in a vine-shrouded tower was replaced with elements of Snow White and a boy-meets-girl musical. The evil Maleficent and the three Good Fairies (Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather) dominate the film, rather than Princess Aurora and Prince Philip. Sleeping Beauty was originally released in 70mm, and the Blu-ray edition restores the film to its original splendor. (Many earlier releases trimmed the wide-screen images and/or muted the glowing palatte.) The Bonus DVD looks good on a flat screen monitor, but it pales in comparison to the richness of the Blu-ray. In addition to the commentaries and a making-of documentary, the set includes myriad extras that vary widely in quality. Nostalgia buffs will enjoy the recreation of the old Sleeping Beauty's Castle attraction in Disneyland, and the TV program "Four Artists Paint One Tree" provides a welcome showcase for key talents from the film. But the CG animation of the dragon and the voice imitations of the Good Fairies fail to capture the magic of the originals in the "Dragon Encounter"; the "Maleficent's Challenge Game"--a hi-tech Twenty Questions--sounds only vaguely like the redoubtable sorceress. (Rated G: violence) --Charles Solomon Stills from Sleeping Beauty (Click for larger image)

A beautiful princess born in a faraway kingdom is destined by a terrible curse to prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a deep sleep which can only be awakened by true love's first kiss. Though the titular princess is on par with the rest of Disney's essential heroines, most of the fun arises from the trio of charming fairies entrusted with her care: Flora, Fauna, and Meriweather. Meanwhile the evil Malificent may just be Disney's most chilling villainess. This classic makes wondrous use of Tchaikovsky's same-titled ballet score, which earned SLEEPING BEAUTY an Academy Award nomination for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture.

Tourist Attractions in Falkirk

Falkirk is a town based in Stirlingshire, the centre of Scotland. Falkirk is recognised for its steel and iron industry during the 18th century, right through to the 19th century. In recent years the service industry has taken over from the heavy industry which peaked during the Industrial Revolution.

An attraction that is definitely worth visiting is the Falkirk Wheel which is a boat transportation device that rotates. It was built in order to connect the Union Canal with the Forth & Clyde Canal and has been powered by the Millennium Commission therefore you will find cafes so visitors can enjoy the location. The wheel is famous for being unique as it is the only one that rotates.

For a historic experience of the town visitors can go to Kinneil Museum. The museum specialises in a fantastic exhibition named '2000 Years of History' which showcases Falkirk's local heritage dating back from the Roman times to modern day. The museum also looks closely at key historical characters including Queen of Scots and St Serf.

Situated near to Kinneil Museum is Antonine Wall, an award winning monument built in AD142 representing the Roman invasion into Scotland. The wall goes on for 73 miles covering Tyne and Solway Firth and previously stood as a link for networks of forts structured two miles apart around the wall. Antonine Wall has been a recipient of the 'World Heritage Site' award in current years making it a grand attraction for all visitors.

Another exciting museum that may be worth a visit is Bo'ness Motor Museum which houses a selection of well known vintage vehicles that have been used in cinema and Television. Here you will come across world famous car models such as the Jaguar XJ6 Series III that was filmed in Hollywood film production, 51st State. The museum also has enjoyable facilities for children featuring a play area known as The Fun Factory which draws emphasis on the film, Monsters Inc. Other facilities include a bar decorated with a James Bond theme, and a Diner catering meals and snacks.

A great way to learn more about the foundation of Falkirk is to visit Callender House which takes you through six centuries of the country's history. Here you will find costumed performers illustrating key characters that have made Scotland as it stands today. The most dynamic area within the building is the kitchen representing the period of 1825 whereby visitors even get the chance to taste food from this era as samples are available.

For shopping, you can visit The Mall Falkirk which is an indoor shopping centre located in the town centre. The Mall Falkirk offers a variety of popular retail stores including River Island, Wallis, USC, New Look, Marks & Spencer, Officers Club, JD Sports, Argos, HMV and many more trendy brands. There are 5 levels of shopping space and eating amenities can be found on level 5 with food and drink available at Mathiesons Café. The shopping centre is open every day of the week however opening and closing times may vary according to the day.

Who would win between these two teams?

Team A:PG-Steve Nash
SG-Michael Jordan
SF- Dominique Wilkins
PF-Kevin Garnett
C-Yao Ming

Team B-PG-Pete Mavarich
SG-Clyde Drexler
SF-Lebron James
PF-Tim Duncan
C-George Mikan

Lets say all these players are playing like they did in their best year.

Team A

Steve Nash is an always pass first type player who could get it to the rest of the team. Other than Nash, Team A is a well scoring team, so it would really work out. Having Jordan is just a blessing for them, he will tear the whole Team B line-up in a heart beat. As for Wilkins, Garnett, and Yao, they can make their way through Team B easily.

Canadian man makes annual trip to visit Clyde 7th-graders
For 21 years, Roger Winter, a Canadian businessman, has traveled to Clyde to talk to seventh-graders at McPherson Middle School about life in Canada. He comes at his own expense and his only pay is a school lunch bought by Bill Young, seventh-grade world studies teacher. Winter will be making another trip to Clyde March 21-22.

Thanks for visiting!
