For tall items, you can use salsa, picante sauce, or even a margarita glass. For shorter items, you can use chocolate fiesta bars or mixes. For short items, try using tequila glasses, kitchen gadgets, jalapeno magnets for the refrigerator, or candies.

Cut out the appropriate sized cellophane. The right size will be large enough to cover the basket when complete and even have an extra few inches for decoration. Remember, you can remove extra easier than you can add more.

Start with your tall item. Place the tall item into the center of the basket. Arrange the shorter items around the tall item, and then place the shortest or smallest items at the edge.

Start with the middle the flat side of the cellophane- not the corners - and lift the sides up meeting in the middle. Then, you will want to pull the corner up over the edges. If you are unsure of the stability, try using clear tape to tape the flat edges together. You can use the corners for the decorations.

Either making your own bow or using a store bought bow, tie the bow around the lowest possible point where the items end and the cellophane begins.

Can large shrubs be kept small?

We are doing some planting in our front yard! There are alot of shrubs I like, but the tags on them say the get 3 feet wide, and 6 feet tall! My hysband says these are too big, and to take them back. Can't we just prune them to control their size. I've already took one back, and now I bought another shrub that he says is too big. It's called " Green spire Euonymus. I would like to keep it at 4 or 5 feet tall. Can I control it's size, or will it take over the yard, and be too uncontrollable?

any shrub can be cut back to keep it at a size desirable by the owner. it matters when they are cut back however. something like euonymus can easily be kept at 4 or 5 feet by cutting it back through the growing season. i wouldnt cut back in mid to late fall however because cutting stimulates new growth. new growth is susceptible to cold damage. when cutting back in fall, the plant puts on new growth that will be damaged at the first or second frost. for drastic cutbacks, i do that in dead of winter when the plant is dormant. i will let the plant shape out through the first of spring and i will keep it shaped through the hot months until october. it does depend on the variety of shrub as well. rate of growth, when it blooms, etc... these are other factors to consider when pruning. something simlple like a japanese holly or boxwood can pretty much be pruned any time but fall.
