If you have seen the movie then you probably saw a pretty accurate depiction of King Leonidas in terms of his fitness level. Gerard Butler no doubt went through a physical hell to get his body ready for the big screen, but the benefits were obvious to the movie goer. Since the movie there have been many people to create and use different variations of the infamous 300 workout. I want to address a version that I am partial to because of the simplicity of the concept.

The 300 workout that I am talking about teaching you is a kettlebell cardio workout version. You first need to get yourself a kettlebell that will somewhat challenge you even in a moderate workout. This is important because the 300 kettlebell workout will certainly challenge you in a whole new way. You basically want to come up with 10 different exercises with the kettlebell. The number 300 comes from the total number of reps that will be executed in the workout. You basically have 10 kettlebell exercises that will consist of 30 repetitions each. If you are a true Spartan you can complete this evil task in under 40 minutes. Now this is no doubt a killer program that will breed killer results. However, if you unable to complete the workout as described then you can modify it to suit your progress. A good example here would be to try 200 reps instead of the full 300. This will at least get you going in the right direction.

What happend after the Spartans commited suicide?

Did the Pershans say "oh crap, lets just go home, this looks like too hard a job"?
Funny how people rally to tales of valor but know little of what the after math was.
What about the Greeks who fought with the Pershans?
What and the heck was the war about? All unimportant except for the warrior worship.
Why was Sparta a cult of death and not life?
Did make a damn good flick though!
A more realistic one on modern times is a flick caled "None but The Spartans."
Not very popular flick but parts so very true.

The Spartans did not commit suicide, they and the remaining Thespians were shot down with Arrows. The war continued. The Persians took the Thermopylae pass and went on to burn Athens. The Greeks finally turned the war around with a miracle victory at sea known as the Battle of Salamis. Once the Persians were cut off from the sea Xerxes fled and left his army behind. The Greeks finally united and defeated the remaining Pesian army at the Battle of Platea (sp?).

Sparta was a warrior society not a cult of death. Read the book Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield. I haven't seen the movie and don't plan to.

Spartans thrash Warriors
Whitworth Spartans hosted Selby Warriors at Whitworth High School last Saturday in their final home league match of the season. It was no surprise that Selby opened the scoring with their giant second rower plunging over from close range for his first of four tries.
