Why doesn't my start button and desktop show up?

The last time my computer worked fine was when i turned it off and it sayed that its going to take a while because it was installing or saving and i unpuged it and turned it back on and my start button won't show up and desktop and i cant hear my music because i dont got the bar in the bottom that has volume and start and i need help to get it back can somebody help me to get back like it was please!

You cancelled it during windows update I assume?
Bad idea, best solution is this:
Open Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL)
Go to 'New Task'
Type 'explorer.exe', hit enter
Use the start menu to open windows update again and re-download/install any updates.
Important step: Let it do it's thing!
Reboot (And don't remove the power source)
Voila.
