how would i cut/sew an x-large shirt to make it small?

i bought an X-large band t-shirt and would like to sew it smaller.
how would i go about doing this?
im thinking i should flip it inside out, cut down both sides, fold and sew it smaller, but the sleeves are HUGE. what could i do with them?

DO NOT CUT THE SHIRT UNTIL YOU ARE SATISFIED WITH THE NEW SIZE. . Take another shirt that is the size you want and turn it inside out and lay it flat and use this to make your pattern {cut it from newspaper using the inside of the shirt as your guide}. {newspaper always worked for me} If you are satisfied with the pattern now place it on the the shirt you want to cut down and place the paper so you will get the pattern with the least amount of cutting. The best way would be to place the pattern along the seam however in the case of the sleeve there is a difference. With this problem your best bet would be to pur the pattern for the front and the back in the middle of the material and that would give you the right size for the sleeve if you have cut it correctly from the other shirt.I hope this helps you and if you have any questions at all check my avatar and e-mail me.
