25th Hour is a eulogy, mourning the New York of post-September 11, 2001, and the regrettable life of one of the city's least reputable citizens. Monty Brogan (Edward Norton) isn't a bad guy--in fact he's a mensch, adopting a battered dog in the film's mood-setting opening scene, and leading a decent life with his girlfriend (Rosario Dawson)... when he's not dealing narcotics. Facing a seven-year prison term, Monty spends his last free night with pals (Barry Pepper, Philip Seymour Hoffman) and visiting his understanding father (Brian Cox), while a Russian drug lord pressures him for getting busted. Lee directs this plotless, no-win scenario as the last gasp of a guy with nowhere to go, and the film (written by David Benioff, from his own novel) suffers from a similar loss of potential, lacking enough focus to make Monty's odyssey compelling. Instead, 25th Hour (which also costars Anna Paquin) rambles from scene to lazy scene, vaguely lamenting that lives have been wasted, some by terrorism, others by self-destruction. --Jeff Shannon

Moneyball

The true story of Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane's attempt to field a successful baseball team after a 2001 playoff loss to the Yankees is chronicled in this sports drama, based on the book "Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game." With a limited budget, Beane (Brad Pitt) enlists the aid of an economics whiz (Jonah Hill) with a mathematical approach to scouting players, encountering opposition from the A's' more traditional manager (Philip Seymour Hoffman). Robin Wright also stars. 133 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, DVS, Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles: English (SDH), French, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish; deleted scenes; featurettes.
It's amazing that Moneyball makes baseball statistics seem fascinating--but that's because it's not really a movie about numbers, and it's not really a movie about baseball, either. It's about what drives people to take risks--in this instance, Billy Beane (played by Brad Pitt), general manager of the Oakland A's, who's just had his best players poached by teams that can afford to pay a lot more. Fed up with how money twists the game, he listens to Peter Brand (Jonah Hill), who persuades him that certain players are being undervalued for trivial reasons--that statistics reveal hidden strengths that could, when used in the right combinations, produce a winning season. Beane takes Brand's advice, then has to fight everyone else around him to follow it through. Moneyball skillfully takes the audience into Beane's psyche. Pitt is in excellent form; it's an understated but magnetic performance, the kind that rarely wins awards but should. Pitt has the physical presence of a former athlete and vividly expresses the mind of a man who's never achieved success but isn't ready to give up. Director Bennett Miller (Capote) shapes the supporting cast (Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Wright, and others less recognizable but just as solid) as carefully as Beane shapes his team. Miller has a few flashy (and highly effective) moments of sound manipulation and editing, but Moneyball is carried by its superb performances. --Bret Fetzer

Actors at Work

It's extremely difficult to be an actor, for many reasons: It's mostly unrewarding financially. It takes a lot of hard work before an actor even gets a part. A career is apt to be short-lived. The field is incredibly competitive. Cream does not always rise to the top. And yet actors young and old line up by the thousands wanting to do it. What fuels this desire? What is it that drives actors to withstand the frustration of not getting parts, of getting bad parts in bad plays, of being mistreated by directors, misundertood by audiences, misinterpreted by critics? With a nod to the Paris Review's Writers at Work model, Actors at Work looks at the way some of our most respected stage and film actors today approach their calling. In a collection of interviews with a dozen artists, including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Patti LuPone, and Billy Crudup, the book explores not only the impetus to perform but also key topics about the process and profession, including the way actors approach a role, what techniques they use to deal with directors and other cast members, the ways in which they use their own personal lives in their work, and their influences, idols, and insecurities. The result is a book that actors will find indispensable and fans will find irresistible.

Here are some more information for Seymour Hoffman:

What is it about going to the dentist that strikes fear into the hearts of children and adults alike? There has for longer than anyone now can remember an almost stereotypical belief that dentist are sinister drill wielding maniacs. Well for a few that may well be the case but mainly this can be put down to two things. The medical practices of the 19th century certainly call up a few horror stories, and why wouldn't they? It wasn't uncommon for dentists to have saws in their surgery. The other reason I much prefer is the way they've been portrayed on the silver screen. Here is a countdown of four of the most sinister portrayals of dentists in cinema history.
4. Laffing Gas (1914)
In the days before talkies dentists were still portrayed as the sadists we know and love. Slap slick in style (what else with Chaplin) this takes nothing away from the dentist's vivacity. When he prompts Chaplin to drop the broom and grab the pliers to assist him with some surgery, most viewers where probably a lot happier not to be hearing it.
3. The Dentist (1932)
With W. C. Fields as the callous and disillusioned dentist this film is probably not far from real life. Fields is definitely not the most obviously sinister character, but the subtle little sinister moments really make his character a high ranking evil dentist. While drill deep in a patient's mouth the patient is screaming out in agony. Fields simply smiles and hums a merry tune.
2. Little Shop of Horrors
Getting back towards the slapstick Steve Martin is fantastic as the lunatic dentist who seems to take great pleasure in torturing his patients while high on gas. The fact that Seymour sees him as evil enough to feed to his plant says a lot for the dentist Serivello.
1. Marathon Man
Number one in our list and with good reason. Has there ever been a better idea for an evil villain than a Nazi war criminal dentist? In the role that won Laurence Olivier an Oscar for best supporting actor, his torture of Dustin Hoffman is enough to put anyone off going back to the dentist's chair.
That's the list and frankly I'd be surprised if anyone still has the nerve to get there bite problems fixed or see about teeth replacement for a while.
An honorary mention goes out to Ricky Gervais' cynical practitioner in Ghost World as well as the dentist from Finding Nemo, whose fish even want out of his theatre.
Sam Qam is an orthodontist who provides teeth replacement and assistance with bite problems.

Most of you are aware that People Magazine chose Johnny Depp as the sexiest man alive This Year. Depp also received this honor back in 2003. Depp beat out last year’s winner; Hugh Jackman and we all know how difficult it must be to outshine Richard Gere and George Clooney! There are so many gorgeous famous faces to choose from but some celebs aren’t as blessed with good looks like these handsome actors. Who would you choose to be on the top 10 list of the least sexy men in Hollywood? Here is a list provided by Moviefone…
Hollywood’s Most UNSEXY Men!
10. John C. Reilly (Boogie Nights, Walk Hard)
9. Joaquin Phoenix (Signs, Walk the Line)

I have a few comments. Why is Justin Long on this list? According to Moviefone he looks like a little boy. What is wrong with looking youthful? I think he looks healthy and although he looks slightly nerdy, he is still good looking. How are Michael Moore and the other actors above him on the list better looking than he is? I disagree with some of this list so I made my own! Here it is:
