To gauge the magnitude of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's popularity in his native Hawaii, consider this: following his death in 1997 (at age 38, attributed to his profound obesity), Kamakawiwo'ole's body lay in state in the state capitol, only the second person to receive such an honor. Kamakawiwo'ole's appeal lies in his love for prestatehood, precondominium Hawaii and the expressiveness of his gently passionate voice, which can float through higher registers with an ease that brings Johnny Mathis to mind. Several selections ("Ka Pua U'i," "White Sandy Beach of Hawai'i," the sun-kissed "La 'Elima") feature Kamakawiwo'ole in a traditional mood, using only his ukulele to adorn the charm of his native lyricism. Others, such as the Jimmy Buffett-like "Maui Hawaiian Sup'pa Man" add playful contemporary touches that suit Kamakawiwo'ole's style. Most touching are the string-backed laments that open and close the album, "Hawai'i '78 Introduction" and "Hawai'i '78," initially a reflection on his father's death, later on the passing of Hawaii's native culture. Best known is his medley "Somewhere over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World," which played over the closing credits of the film Meet Joe Black. --Terry Wood

This Alcatraz-themed potboiler was the final film initiated by the vaunted masters of the action McMovie, producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer; the flamboyant Simpson died of a drug overdose soon after its release. Modern synth-orchestra fusion master Hans Zimmer is unaccountably teamed with Nick Glennie-Smith and Harry Gregson-Williams here, and the results are, well, just McFine. Not surprisingly, Zimmer's done better work on better films. --Jerry McCulley

In My Life In My Life

There used to be a section in every record store labeled "Personalities." It was where often painful renderings of contemporary pop hits by the likes of Sebastian Cabot and Mae West could be found biding their time until Rhino Records' Golden Throats series could gleefully discover them. In My Life is a Personality Record with two crucial distinctions: a surprisingly low pain threshold and Sir George Martin. Deciding to make a farewell album on his own terms, the gentlemanly former Beatles producer gathered an eclectic crowd of "heroes and friends" (Jeff Beck, Jim Carrey, Phil Collins, Sean Connery, Billy Connolly, Celine Dion, Goldie Hawn, Vanessa Mae, Bobby McFerrin, Robin Williams, and John Williams) to cover a selection of Fab Four tunes. There are surprising revelations throughout. Carrey displays a vocal prowess as elastic as his face--and a good deal more refined--on "I Am the Walrus". Instrumental showcases include Beck's subtle tonal explorations of "A Day in the Life," and Vanessa Mae and John Williams milking the latent classicism from "Because" and "Here Comes the Sun," respectively. And then there's the overly competent MOR ("Here, There and Everywhere" by Dion, Collins's "Golden Slumbers," "Carry That Weight," and "The End"), and one big disappointment (McFerrin and Williams's "Come Together" succumbs to the latter's incessant vocal mugging). This recording recalls Martin's early larks with Peter Sellers and the Goons one moment (Hawn's breathy nightclub lark on "A Hard Day's Night," Connolly's ringmaster turn on "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite"), and reveals his own sentimental heart the next (Connery's restrained reading of "In My Life," Martin's own compositions, "Friends and Lovers" and "Pepperland Suite"). An odd, yet decidedly dignified final memento from the man who earned a Knighthood being the "Fifth Beatle." --Jerry McCulley

As with Star Wars, the George Lucas-produced Indiana Jones trilogy was not just a plaything for kids but an act of nostalgic affection toward a lost phenomenon: the cliffhanging movie serials of the past. Episodic in structure and with fate hanging in the balance about every 10 minutes, the Jones features tapped into Lucas's extremely profitable Star Wars formula of modernizing the look and feel of an old, but popular, story model. Steven Spielberg directed all three films, which are set in the late 1930s and early '40s: the comic book-like Raiders of the Lost Ark, the spooky, Gunga Din-inspired Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and the cautious but entertaining Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Fans and critics disagree over the order of preference, some even finding the middle movie nearly repugnant in its violence. (Pro-Temple of Doom people, on the other hand, believe that film to be the most disarmingly creative and emotionally effective of the trio.) One thing's for sure: Harrison Ford's swaggering, two-fisted, self-effacing performance worked like a charm, and the art of cracking bullwhips was probably never quite the iconic activity it soon became after Raiders. Supporting players and costars were very much a part of the series, too--Karen Allen, Sean Connery (as Indy's dad), Kate Capshaw, Ke Huy Quan, Amrish Puri, Denholm Elliot, River Phoenix, and John Rhys-Davies among them. Years have passed since the last film (another is supposedly in the works), but emerging film buffs can have the same fun their predecessors did picking out numerous references to Hollywood classics and B-movies of the past. --Tom Keogh

List Price: $9.94

Dry as ice, dripping with deadpan witticisms, only Sean Connery's Bond would dare disparage the Beatles, that other 1964 phenomenon. No one but Connery can believably seduce women so effortlessly, kill with almost as much ease, and then pull another bottle of Dom Perignon '53 out of the fridge. Goldfinger contains many of the most memorable scenes in the Bond series: gorgeous Shirley Eaton (as Jill Masterson) coated in gold paint by evil Auric Goldfinger and deposited in Bond's bed; silent Oddjob, flipping a razor-sharp derby like a Frisbee to sever heads; our hero spread-eagle on a table while a laser beam moves threateningly toward his crotch. Honor Blackman's Pussy Galore is the prototype for the series' rash of man-hating supermodels. And Desmond Llewelyn reprises his role as Q, giving Bond what is still his most impressive car, a snazzy little number that fires off smoke screens, punctures the tires of vehicles on the chase, and boasts a handy ejector seat. Goldfinger's two climaxes, inside Fort Knox and aboard a private plane, have to be seen to be believed. --Raphael Shargel

Own all four Indiana Jones adventures in this Blu-ray collection. This collection includes: Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.Raiders of the Lost ArkIndiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is no ordinary archeologist. When we first see him, he is somewhere in the Peruvian jungle in 1936, running a booby-trapped gauntlet (complete with an over-sized rolling boulder) to fetch a solid-gold idol. He loses this artifact to his chief rival, a French archeologist named Belloq (Paul Freeman), who then prepares to kill our hero. In the first of many serial-like escapes, Indy eludes Belloq by hopping into a convenient plane. So, then: is Indiana Jones afraid of anything? Yes, snakes. The next time we see Jones, he's a soft-spoken, bespectacled professor. He is then summoned from his ivy-covered environs by Marcus Brody (Denholm Elliott) to find the long-lost Ark of the Covenant. The Nazis, it seems, are already searching for the Ark, which the mystical-minded Hitler hopes to use to make his stormtroopers invincible. But to find the Ark, Indy must first secure a medallion kept under the protection of Indy's old friend Abner Ravenwood, whose daughter, Marion (Karen Allen), evidently has a "history" with Jones. Whatever their personal differences, Indy and Marion become partners in one action-packed adventure after another, ranging from wandering the snake pits of the Well of Souls to surviving the pyrotechnic unearthing of the sacred Ark. A joint project of Hollywood prodigies George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, with a script co-written by Lawrence Kasdan and Philip Kaufman, among others, Raiders of the Lost Ark is not so much a movie as a 115-minute thrill ride. Costing 22 million dollars (nearly three times the original estimate), Raiders of the Lost Ark reaped 200 million dollars during its first run. It was followed by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1985) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), as well as a short-lived TV-series "prequel." Temple of DoomThe second of the George Lucas/Steven Spielberg Indiana Jones epics is set a year or so before the events in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1984). After a brief brouhaha involving a precious vial and a wild ride down a raging Himalyan river, Indy (Harrison Ford) gets down to the problem at hand: retrieving a precious gem and several kidnapped young boys on behalf of a remote East Indian village. His companions this time around include a dimbulbed, easily frightened nightclub chanteuse (Kate Capshaw), and a feisty 12-year-old kid named Short Round (Quan Ke Huy). Throughout, the plot takes second place to the thrills, which include a harrowing rollercoaster ride in an abandoned mineshaft and Indy's rescue of the heroine from a ritual sacrifice. There are also a couple of cute references to Raiders of the Lost Ark, notably a funny variation of Indy's shooting of the Sherpa warrior. Last CrusadeThe third installment in the widely beloved Spielberg/Lucas Indiana Jones saga begins with an introduction to a younger Indy (played by the late River Phoenix), who, through a fast-paced prologue, gives the audience insight into the roots of his taste for adventure, fear of snakes, and dogged determination to take historical artifacts out of the hands of bad guys and into the museums in which they belong. A grown-up Indy (Harrison Ford) reveals himself shortly afterward in a familiar classroom scene, teaching archeology to a disproportionate number of starry-eyed female college students in 1938. Once again, however, Mr. Jones is drawn away from his day job after an art collector (Julian Glover) approaches him with a proposition to find the much sought after Holy Grail. Circumstances reveal that there was another avid archeologist in search of the famed cup — Indiana Jones' father, Dr. Henry Jones (Sean Connery) — who had recently disappeared during his efforts. The junior and senior members of the Jones family find themselves in a series of tough situations in locales ranging from Venice to the most treacherous spots in the Middle East. Complicating the situation further is the presence of Elsa (Alison Doody), a beautiful and intelligent woman with one fatal flaw: she's an undercover Nazi agent. The search for the grail is a dangerous quest, and its discovery may prove fatal to those who seek it for personal gain. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade earned a then record-breaking $50 million in its first week of release. Kingdom of the Crystal SkullSteven Spielberg and George Lucas bring you the greatest adventurer of all time in “a nonstop thrill ride” (Richard Corliss, TIME) that’s packed with “sensational, awe-inspiring spectacles” (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times). Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull finds Indy (Harrison Ford) trying to outrace a brilliant and beautiful agent (Cate Blanchett) for the mystical, all-powerful Crystal Skull of Akator. Teaming up with a rebellious young biker (Shia LaBeouf) and his spirited original love Marion (Karen Allen), Indy takes you on a breathtaking action-packed adventure in the exciting tradition of the classic Indiana Jones movies!

The first 007 feature finds Her Majesty's top spy (Sean Connery) investigating mysterious goings-on at a small Jamaican port, where he meets the diabolical Dr. No (Joseph Wiseman) and the first "Bond Bombshell," bikini-clad Honey Rider (Ursula Andress). 110 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English DTS HD 5.1 Master Lossless Audio, Dolby Digital mono, Spanish Dolby Digital mono, French Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles: English, Spanish; audio commentary; featurettes; photo gallery; TV spots; theatrical trailers. NOTE: This Title Is Out Of Print; Limit One Per Customer.

Released in 1962, this first James Bond movie remains one of the best, and serves as an entertaining reminder that the Bond series began (in keeping with Ian Fleming's novels) with a surprising lack of gadgetry and big-budget fireworks. Sean Connery was just 32 years old when he won the role of Agent 007. In his first adventure James Bond is called to Jamaica where a colleague and secretary have been mysteriously killed. With an American CIA agent (Jack Lord, pre-Hawaii Five-O), they discover that the nefarious Dr. No (Joseph Wiseman) is scheming to blackmail the U.S. government with a device capable of deflecting and destroying U.S. rockets launched from Cape Canaveral. Of course, Bond takes time off from his exploits to enjoy the company of a few gorgeous women, including the bikini-clad Ursula Andress. She gloriously kicks off the long-standing tradition of Bond women who know how to please their favorite secret agent. A sexist anachronism? Maybe, but this is Bond at his purest, kicking off a series of movies that shows no sign of slowing down. --Jeff Shannon

Here are some more information for Sean Connery:
Sean Connery

No matter if you are 20 or 40; there is just something that is so yummy about an older man. For me, it was Sean Connery and he may have had grey hair but he still looked like he had muscles on top of muscle with his shirt off and who could resist that sexy accent? Granted not all older men can be Mr. Connery or whoever your best fantasy is but taken on their own merits they can be interesting and fun to date.

1. First off and foremost, follow your instincts and stay safe. Women everywhere have made great strides in being confident and independent, but that does not mean that we should throw caution to the wind. Until you know someone well, always let someone know where you will be and when you will check in, and meet in very public locations. If someone feels creepy to you, just walk away; some men are single for a reason.

2. Do not become the other woman. That is a horrible position to put yourself in, and no one will respect you for it, including you. In that light, find out as soon as you meet if your potential new man is married or not. If married, run away fast, but if not, carry on.

3. Be realistic. Your man may be into a good time, but be prepared to spend some downtime with him too. As we age, we get a bit slower, and the older man is no different. So while one day you may be water skiing or hitting the slopes and the next enjoying a drink on the beach or by the fire in the lodge.

4. The same thing applies in the bedroom. As men age, their sex drive goes down a bit. So while they may not be able to perform time after time, like younger men, they have experience to balance it out. Over time your man may have picked up a few tricks that will balance out his need to recover and blow your mind at the same time.

5. Get to know your man on several levels. This does not mean asking what every move he makes means, but learning about his goals and seeing if they match yours. Older men may be out for a good time, and you may be too, and if that is the way it is, go for it. But he may be at that point in his life where he wants to get married, have kids, or maybe already has kids or is looking toward retirement. Do they match with yours? Be honest with yourself first, then with him.

6. Speaking of honesty be yourself. If you think that the man you have your eye on will think that you are too young, it may be tempting for you to act older or more mature. That is big mistake because eventually you will forget to act and he will think you are a liar and it will end badly. Besides, what is there not to love about you?

7. Dating someone who may not get the same cultural references as you can be challenging, but if you have some sort of common ground like a hobby, it is much easier. Maybe the two of you like dancing, so taking some new dance lessons together would be fun. Maybe you both like the outdoorsy thing, so camping or fishing would be a great time for you both. With common ground that age gap shrinks to zero.

8. Not everyone views dating older men as the fun time you do, so be prepared for people to stare, make rude comments, or even ask snide questions. While these may make you angry, do not let them get to you. It is your relationship, the two of you are happy, and everyone else can take a flying leap.

9. There is that old saying that the way to a mans heart is through his stomach, and there is some truth to that old phrase. An older man appreciates a home cooked hearty meal now and again. While no one is expecting you to be a gourmet chef, learning how to prepare a few dishes well is a plus.

10. Lastly, many of us women have the instinct to nurture and care for those around us, and it can be a great thing for many relationships, but not the one with your older man. Do not mother him that is not why he is with you. If you cant help yourself, get a dog.

Why do people like Sean Connery more?

I personally liked Pierce Brosnan. He was an amazing Bond in my opinion. His Bond movies were awsome as well. "The World is not Enough" was my favorite Bond movie he ever made. But people like Sean Connery more. What does Connery have that Pierce doesn't? Don't hate me for this question. I just want to know why. Best answer gets 10 points.

Pierce was my favourite Bond.
