Black full-length coat in an unspecified fur, pink hat with black gauze trim; pink a blue tunic dress worn with a black coat with a white fur roll collar. N.B fur rugs on floor. Features include: •MPAA Rating: PG•Format: DVD•Runtime: 123 minutes The "greatest racehorse of all time" mantle fits easily around the neck of Secretariat, the 1973 Triple Crown winner. So why not a movie version of this champion's life? Secretariat begins in the late '60s, with some good behind-the-scenes material on how thoroughbreds come to be (there's flavorful atmosphere inside the horsey world, including an account of Secretariat's ownership being decided by a coin flip as part of an old-school agreement). A highly lacquered Diane Lane plays Penny Chenery, the inheritor of her father's stables, who segues from being an all-American mom to running a major horse-racing franchise; reliable character-actor support comes in the form of John Malkovich, as a gaudily outfitted trainer, and Margo Martindale, as Chenery's assistant. Screenwriter Mike Rich and director Randall Wallace must do some heavy lifting to make Lane's privileged millionaire into some sort of underdog--luckily, the hidebound traditions of the male-dominated racing scene provide some sources of outrage. The need to stack the deck even more leads the movie into its more contrived scenes, unfortunately, as though we needed dastardly villains in order to root for Penny and her horse. Meanwhile, attempts to reach for a little Seabiscuit-style social relevance don't come off, and a curious religious undertone might make you wonder whether we're meant to assume that God chose Secretariat over some less-deserving equine. The actual excitement of the races can't be denied, however, and Secretariat's awe-inspiring win at the Belmont Stakes remains a jaw-dropping, still-unequaled display of domination in that event. And maybe in sports. --Robert Horton There is, according to Burlesque, a nightclub on the Sunset Strip that looks like a blend of Cabaret and Moulin Rouge and employs a full contingent of dancers and musicians in the service of a neo-retro-burlesque-blues program. Presiding over the craziness within is Tess, a grande dame who also performs occasionally and who could only, under these circumstances, be played by Cher. Entering the scene is a young leather-lunged hopeful from Iowa named Ali, played by Christina Aguilera in her movie-acting debut. The vibe of this glitzy concoction is more Flashdance than Showgirls, despite prerelease predictions that the film would be a campfest of epic proportions. In fact, it's more cornball than trashy. Ali hits most of the clichés of the genre: defying Tess's skepticism by proving her mettle during an impromptu stage number; flirting with the nice-guy bartender (Cam Gigandet, of Twilight) whose home she shares for a while, in a purely platonic way, of course, just until she gets her feet on the ground; and keeping a wary eye on the high roller (Eric Dane, of Grey's Anatomy) who wants to possess her, because, you see, he takes whatever he likes. And did we mention that Tess is facing foreclosure on the club in a month's time? Seriously, you didn't see that coming? Writer-director Steve Antin has no embarrassment about putting any of this across, which may be why it all feels weirdly innocent, if relentlessly silly. Stanley Tucci revives his gay assistant from The Devil Wears Prada, Alan Cumming lurks about in an undefined role that might well have been filmed months after everybody else, and Kristen Bell enjoys a few wicked-witch moments as Ali's main rival. Aguilera, needless to say, belts out her songs as only someone with a very large voice can, and Cher stops the show with an old-fashioned torch song ("You Haven't Seen the Last of Me") that is clearly designed as a roof-raiser. (And, by gum, it works.) This is a ridiculous movie, but it gets points for never claiming to be anything else. --Robert Horton A small town singer moves to the big city where she view for her chance at stardom at the sizzling burlesque nightclub. Studio: Sony Pictures Home Ent Release Date: 03/01/2011 Starring: Cher Christina Aguilera Run time: 118 minutes Rating: Pg13 For the Hollywood remake rule, which dictates that an update of an older film be inferior to the original in almost every aspect, The Thomas Crown Affair stands as a glorious exception. The original 1968 film, starring a dapper Steve McQueen and a radiant Faye Dunaway, was a diverting pop confection of mod clothes and nifty break-ins, but not much more. John McTiernan's new version, though, cranks up the entertainment factor to mach speed, turning what was a languid flick into a high-adrenaline caper romance. Thomas Crown (Pierce Brosnan) is now a man of industry who likes to indulge in a little high-priced art theft on the side; Catherine Banning (Rene Russo) is the insurance investigator determined to get on his tail in more ways than one. If you're thinking cat-and-mouse game, think again--it's more like cat vs. smarter cat, as both the thief and the investigator try to outwit each other and nothing is off-limits, especially after they start a highly charged love affair that's a heated mix of business and pleasure. What makes this Thomas Crown more enjoyable than its predecesor is McTiernan's attention to detail in both the set action pieces (no surprise from the man who helmed Die Hard with precision accuracy) and the developing romance, the witty and intelligent script by Leslie Dixon (she wrote the love scenes) and Kurt Wimmer (he wrote the action scenes), and, most of all, its two stunning leads (both over 40 to boot), combustible both in and out of bed. Brosnan, usually held prisoner in the James Bond straitjacket, lets loose with both a relaxed sensuality and a comic spirit he's rarely expressed before. The film, however, pretty much belongs to Russo, who doesn't just steal the spotlight, but bends it to her will. Beautiful, stylish, smart, self-possessed, incredibly sexy, she's practically a walking icon; it's no wonder Crown falls for her hook, line, and sinker. With Denis Leary as a police detective smitten with Russo, and Faye Dunaway in a throwaway but wholly enjoyable cameo as Brosnan's therapist. --Mark Englehart THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR - DVD Movie Polaroid Eyewear, a leader and pioneer in premium polarizing lenses and highly fashionable sunglasses since 1937, has taken 10 out of the best collection archives, starting from the '30s, into the '80s and reproduced them in meticulous detail. The first ever "Best under the sun" collection from Polaroid Eyewear shows our rich heritage and dedication to premium polarized lenses full UV protection great looks and perfect vision. this is a true celebration of fashion. Here are some more information for Screen Worn: Surely, everybody knows that a wiper blade has to be made from either a rubber or a silicon based compound, simply because the two properties it absolutely needs to carry are a) it has to be flexible and In fact a wiper blade has to be fairly tough along the face of the long edge. Yeah yeah, I know that doesn't make too much sense here but the fact is, wiper blades have to flex lengthwise to the shape of your windscreen and then flex vertically one way and then tip back the other so they work with a dragging action against the screen, rain and dirt. Then, they also have to be sort of rigid on the long scraping edge, else no cleaning will be going on anyway. What you might not know about the oscillating wiper blades though is that they all have a square-cut blade edge that is actually fairly tough based upon its intended use, and it is all so designed that when the wiping is being done the blade is actually dragged across the screen at an acute angle (leaning forward) at around 45 degrees and on the return stroke it is then flipped over so it is likewise dragged along, again leaning forward at around 45 degrees. It's done this way so the 'sharp' square edges can act like a scissor edge and scrape the dirt and water from the screen, and while fairly new all blades work just fine, obviously. The trouble they get though is two-fold, because not only are wiper blades out in the open and get weathered by the sun, snow, wind, mud, hail and ice, they also get sandblasted by dirt as you drive, and being scraped back and forth across the screen when in use sure does hack away at those sharp edges as if they were being rubbed against sandpaper. So, seeing as these units are subject to such harsh conditions anyway and get it even harder while in use, it can be no great mystery that they can be prone to wearing down fairly quickly, depending on the compounding conditions they have to operate under. Taking this into consideration and being aware that the manufacturers of such parts are moving toward 'modular' sales where buyers will soon be unable to purchase just the worn rubber parts and will have to purchase the entire blade unit plus the pressure clips plus the wiper arms, it is obvious this unit is going to become a fairly expensive and recurring investment over time. Probably the saddest observation at this point is that those that can spend will profit the manufacturers handsomely, where those that don't perhaps have $40-$50 spare dollars possibly more than twice per year might just have to drive with less than perfect vision pending a solution. Of course another interesting issue is the entirely unnecessary addition to world pollution in the name of greed, which in all truth should be a political issue as it is sure a growing sell-trend. However, there are some fairly simple and effective steps we can take to ensure our windshield wiper blades are maintained in as good a condition as we can possibly keep them. The first step is to check the wipers over physically for cuts, chips and soil build-up at least once per week and then give them and the windscreen itself a warm soapy wash. Once they are clean you need to take a close look at the condition of the working edge of each blade, as it is important for you to know how worn or damaged this square edge has become, as this exact point on your wipers is the crucial area that determines how clean your screen can be. Side issues such as seasonal protection against frost or ice can be managed fairly easily with the spray application of a simple 25% water to 75% white vinegar solution to all windows every couple of weeks as needed. This is very effective against ice build-up. The second step then is to decide if the wiper blades are a touch rounded, chipped, brittle or otherwise deteriorated and make a decision regarding replacement or rescue potential. Appreciating that the majority of those faced with worn wiper blades these days would likely weigh up better vision against blade replacement prices, possibly adding some margin for the absolute pain of doing the physical change over. Many would likely opt to wait a little longer. However, thankfully a great new tool has been developed which without you getting dirty, spending money or even cutting yourself (being in the rules for blade changing), and in generally less than 30 seconds, can make your blades nearly new again and again and again. Depending on conditions, use and treatment your wiper blades could last you for years longer than usual and provide you with not only a greatly improved financial benefit but also a matching value would lighten your ecological footprint with certainly far less material to be disposed of. I can only suggest you check this great idea out and keep a Wizard handy in your vehicle. b) it has to be sort of rigid too.
Obviously there are wiper blades for all sorts of applications, such as cars, military vehicles, aircraft, ships and boats, trucks, trains, space shuttles and all sorts of commercial vehicles, so the uses and abuses these products run into really do serve up some heavy work-loads.
Watch this brief video to discover exactly how to Increase Your Driving Safety Without Purchasing New Windshield Wiper Blades. http://www.wiper-wizard.comScreen Printing: Plastic Feeling or Soft?
A screen printer’s t shirt printed with ink containing plastics can be hot and sticky if you do not know what to ask for when ordering. If you are looking for a softer, vintage-feeling screen printed shirt, you may want to ask for water based inks. If you need a heavy laid print, you may ask for ink containing plastics applied with a hot press.
Many screen printers use inks containing plastics because they are not as hard on the screen printing equipment, they are sometimes more durable, can be brighter, heavier and more visible. But, if you want your t shirt to look old and worn, you will most likely be happier with a water based ink product. Plastic inks laid with a hot press are not very breathable and create a lot of heat against your body. They do not stretch with fabrics and can crack if exposed to a lot of wear and tear.
Water based inks are well absorbed by almost every kind of fabric. Keep in mind that water based ink does not show up as well on darker fabrics. This is especially true on black and navy blue garments.
Water based ink screen prints are preferred on items that have more texture, such as golf towels, hats and pique polo shirts. They can be ironed without running the risk of melting. They can hold up through stretching, washing and ironing as well as the garment that they are printed on.
There are some circumstances where you may prefer inks containing plastics. Sports jerseys are one example. The complete coverage that you get with inks containing plastic is usually preferred for the extreme visibility that is needed on sports jerseys. Some companies prefer plastic inks on waterproof items, such as umbrellas, raincoats and ponchos.
There is still another reason that you may prefer screen printing inks containing plastics. Fading is of more concern with water based inks. If you want a shirt to look worn or vintage, then definitely go with water based ink. If you want a vibrant color or more durable print, you can still get soft, breathable results from inks containing plastics if a hot press is not used.
Hot press is used to give a heavy plastic feel, such as on a jersey. If a hot press is not used, the result is almost the same as with water based inks. Because most garments come out more durable, most screen print shops use inks containing plastics and no hot press.
The main thing to consider when you are ordering screen print t shirts, polos or other custom clothing is the quality of the print. Ask to see examples of a screen printer’s work before you order. Most screen printers will have samples of their work on their web site.
Find a printer that offers a wide variety of custom clothing and apparel. This way, if you later decide to expand distribution of your logo, you can order different screen print items knowing the quality that you are getting. Some screen printers offer custom clothing from major name brands, such as Nike, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein and Adidas. Getting High Quality products and high quality screen printing in one place can save you a lot of hassle and wasted money.
