Twin Peaks - Fire Walk with Me
List Price: $19.98
Sale Price: $4.70

Alternately fascinating and frustrating--and no doubt deliberately so on both counts--this controversial Twin Peaks installment (it was roundly booed by mystified audiences at the Cannes Film Festival) appeared in theaters after the series was canceled, serving as both prequel and coda to the whole remarkable Twin Peaks phenomenon. Designed especially for dedicated followers of the series (it would just bewilder anyone else), Fire Walk with Me further investigates the murder of Laura Palmer by exploring events that took place before the series's brilliant debut feature (Twin Peaks: The Premiere), up to and including the long, dark, terrible night of Laura's death. Familiar Twin Peaks denizens Sheryl Lee, Grace Zabriskie, and Ray Wise (as the three members of the Palmer family), Kyle MacLachlan, Peggy Lipton, James Marshall, Dana Ashbrook, Miguel Ferrer, Mädchen Amick, and director David Lynch himself reprise their series roles (with Moira Kelly subbing for Lara Flynn Boyle as Donna Hayward), joined by an equally motley group of guest stars, including Harry Dean Stanton, David Bowie, Chris Isaak, and Kiefer Sutherland. --Jim Emerson
You may know "who killed Laura Palmer," but how did she spend the last week of her life? Going back before the events shown in his cult fave TV series, director/co-writer David Lynch returns to the quirky Northwest town where nothing is what it seems and an evil spirit has found a place to dwell. "Peaks" regulars Sheryl Lee, Ray Wise and Kyle MacLachlan star, along with Chris Isaak, Moira Kelly. 134 min. Widescreen; Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, Dolby Digital stereo Surround, French Dolby Digital stereo Surround; theatrical trailer.

CBS's surprise-hit science drama, C.S.I., now has a soundtrack that squares well with the show's cyber labs and street scenes rippled with dusky moods and dark colors. The music mix veers from some dinosaur classics to alt rock's neo-trends. Big rock opens the show, in the form of an unnecessarily edited version of the Who's "Who Are You" and the Wallflowers' single for 2002, "Everybody Out of the Water." But then things start for lesser charted waters with New Order's "Crystal" and a host of aptly eerie soundscapes. Clinic's freaked, thump-pop "Come into Our Room" steers the set toward a dazzling mix of electro-beats, guitar grit, and groove. The dance beats multiply behind a galaxy of Grand Theft Audio and Curve's guitars. The Chambers Brothers and Robbie Robertson circle the focus back to rock's base, but the soundtrack, like the show, is about a new thing: the emergence of smart, sly music that's ideal for smart, sly science types solving mind-boggling crimes. --Andrew Bartlett

Crime Scene Blue LED Flashlight 455 460 Nm 3 AAA Torch, 7305blue
Sale Price: $14.00

This is a GREAT alternative to a traditional white light LED flashlight. There are 21 hi-intensity blue LEDs that cast a very distinctive cone of light with a very good range. It also has a number of useful applications: the blue light is not visible to night vision systems and, though not operating in the Ultra Violet spectrum, at 455nM it is very effective in revealing the presence of body fluids on carpets, upholstery, clothing etc. The size of the light allows it to fit comfortably in the hand and its crenalated end-cap helps keep it from rolling around when placed on a flat surface. Made of anodized aluminum, it's center section has a cross-hatched diamond pattern that gives it a nice tactile feel and makes for a good grip. The on/off switch is on the end cap and it uses 3 readily available AAA batteries. It's priced right and makes a great gift anytime of the year. Switch Type Press on, Press off from rear cap Weight 5 oz. Head Diameter 1.375" 31 mm Body Diameter 1.08" or 27.5 mm Length 3.8" or 94.2 mm

101 Dalmatians (Two-Disc Platinum Edition)
List Price: $29.99
Sale Price: $20.01

Back in 1961, Walt Disney got a little hip with 101 Dalmatians, making use of that flat Saturday morning cartoon style that had become so popular. The result is a kitschy change in animation and story. Pongo and Perdita are two lonely dalmatians who meet cute in a London park and arrange for their pet humans to marry so they can live together and raise a family. They become proud parents of 15 pups, who are stolen by the dastardly Cruella De Vil, who wants to make a fur coat out of them. Cruella has become the most popular villain in all of Disney; she's flamboyantly nasty and lots of fun. But it's the dalmatians who shine in this endearing classic, particularly those precocious pups. Telling the story from the dogs' point of view is a clever conceit, a fundamental flaw of the live-action remake. --Bill DesowitzOn the DVDThis two-disc platinum edition features great sound and incredibly bright, intense colors thanks to the restoration process, but its most impressive selling point is the huge assortment of bonus features designed to delight children, families, and the most serious Disney fans. Kids will have fun caring for their very own puppy in the virtual Dalmatian game for television or on DVD ROM and can find out just what kind of puppy they're most like and which human Disney character they're most compatible with in the puppy profiler game. The fun with language game is geared toward the very young preschooler and teaches numbers and the names of common household items. A modern Selena Gomez music video of "Cruella DeVil" will appeal to tweens and teens. The whole family will enjoy the "101 Pop Up Facts For Families" option which prints various movie facts like the name and author of the original book and how specific scenes differ between the book and the movie right on the screen during the movie and Disney fans will love the similar "101 Pop Up Facts For Fans" feature which supplies a wide variety of film trivia about featured voice talents, famous Disney animators that worked on the film, technical devices employed like multi-pane shots and the Xerox process, and which artists directed specific scenes in the movie. Eleven separate Backstage Disney featurettes interview a host of animators, writers, historians, producers, and story men regarding the film's contemporary feel and the groundbreaking technical processes like the then-new Xerox process utilized in making 101 Dalmatians. Also highlighted is Bill Pete's amazing storytelling contribution to the film, the technical and mechanical innovations of Ub Iwerks, the songwriting process, and the animation prowess of famous Disney animators like Woolie Reitherman, Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston, Milt Kahl, Marc Davis, Ken Anderson, and Walt Peregoy. The 12-minute dramatization of the longstanding correspondence between author Dodie Smith and Walt Disney is intriguing and the trailers and radio and television spots provide fun historical reference for the film and its various releases. Finally, the "Music and More" feature presents a variety of deleted and abandoned songs as well as many alternate versions and takes of songs used in the final film. --Tami Horiuchi Stills from 101 Dalmatians (click for larger image)

The Bodyguard

Sale Price: $3.28

Smash hit starring Whitney Houston as a world-famous singer-actress who hires former Secret Service agent Kevin Costner as her personal protector after she receives threatening letters from a disturbed fan. While trying to adjust to life in the public eye, the bodyguard falls in love with his beautiful client. Songs include "I Have Nothing" and "I Will Always Love You." 129 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital Surround stereo; Subtitles: English, French, Spanish; audio commentary by Costner, Houston, others; "making of" documentary; music video; theatrical trailer.
This 1992 crowd pleaser made almost as much money for Whitney Houston as its chart-busting soundtrack. A high-wattage star vehicle as only Hollywood can make, The Bodyguard stars Houston as a pop-music diva (now there's a stretch) and Kevin Costner as the stern bodyguard who is assigned to protect her after the singer receives some nasty death threats. Pop star and bodyguard don't hit it off at first, but they wear down each others' defenses, and before long Houston is baring her tonsils with a rousing rendition of the Dolly Parton chestnut "I Will Always Love You." The film, written by Lawrence Kasden, was originally intended for Steve McQueen, but the script languished for years before Houston took an interest in the project. A proposed sequel would potentially have starred Costner and Princess Diana, until Diana's tragic death precluded that possibility. --Jeff Shannon

Kathy Bates stars as an unhappy wife trying to get her husband's attention in this amusing and moving 1991 screen adaptation of Fannie Flagg's novel Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. After befriending a lonely old woman (Jessica Tandy), Bates hears the story of a lifelong friendship between two other women (Mary Stuary Masterson and Mary-Louise Parker, seen in flashback) who once ran a cafe in town against many personal odds. The tale inspires Bates to take further command over her life, and there director Jon Avnet (Up Close and Personal), in his first feature, has fun with the film. Bates develops a real attitude toward her thickheaded spouse at home and some uppity girls in a parking lot, but dignity is generally the key to Avnet's approach with the story's crucial relationships. Tandy is a joy and clearly loves the element of mystery attached to her character, and Masterson and Parker are excellent in the historical sequences. --Tom Keogh

Wonderful, beautifully acted "dramedy" about a frustrated housewife (Kathy Bates) who is transfixed by the tales spun by an elderly woman (Jessica Tandy) living in a nursing home. The stories involve two independent women (Mary Stuart Masterson and Mary-Louise Parker) who ran a popular cafe in Alabama in the 1930s and whose friendship survived a number of incredible events. With Cicely Tyson. Extended version; 137 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital Surround; Subtitles: French, Spanish; deleted scenes; documentary; audio commentary; photo gallery; theatrical trailers.
