How do you find the vaule out on something someone has been collecting?

I need to help a freind he needs money & has bben collecting 45 records, posters, stamps, baseball cards. He has some very uquine items & dates & places. But I sure would hate thinking i'm getting him a good $ for his items he has collected for over 50 years. I know everybody wants something for nothing, so how can I find the vaule of these items, so I know what to sell them for. And where would a person go to sell items like these? P.S. all items are in great shape, and orginal record pacakge for the 45's, poster was glued to a piece of poster card, so it didn't curl, and stamps had been in a container, the baseball card he has in in a plastic jacket.
