The four artists first met in 1994 while completing their residencies at De Ateliers, Amsterdam, Netherlands. Their meeting proved to be a profound experience that cemented the professional and personal friendships within the group. After living and working in various countries after their time in Amsterdam, the four are once again in the same location, Los Angeles. Both Ends Burning is the first exhibition of all the artists together. Bessone, Houseago, Monahan and Schnitger are dedicated to exploring and challenging notions of the figure. Finding a lack of rigor in current trends regarding figuration they look to face their practices without ironic distractions. Together they have decided to take a no-holds-barred approach to their work and find territories not before explored. Each artist confronts figuration from different angles and with various techniques. In this exhibition they continue this dialogue and the intertwining narratives between their work. Using the TI89 Titanium: Conversions into binary, hex, decimal, octal? $35, 0b00110110, 28, 0x78, 235. I'd like to know how i'd go about doing this on the calculator, i.e. the buttons and steps to take. I know the smart move is to look at the manual and believe me I have already and it's proven of no use. I'd also like to know how to turn answers into fractions using this calculator. It's no longer math-frac anymore as it was in previous versions.
You can convert to and from different bases right from the main screen of the TI-89. The directions are on page 136-138 of your guidebook. For example, taking 35 (a decimal number) and converting it to binary requires that you put in 35, then use the solid triangle/arrow that is above the MODE button. **This key will do conversions. It can be used for base conversions, unit conversions (inches to feet, for example), and angle conversions (radians to degrees).** After typing in that triangle/arrow, you'll type in (using the keyboard) BIN, for binary. Hit enter, and it should tell you that 35 is equal to 0b100011 (the 0b at the start tells you that it's a binary number, a 0h in the display would indicate a hexadecimal number). To take the same number, 35, and make it hexadecimal, you would input 35(triangle/arrow)HEX and you would get 0h23 as a result. The TI-89 Titanium will not do conversions to Octal.
