Membership to this community is free; however, the things you'll want to experience and do while in this world aren't so much. The currency, Second Life Linden dollar, can be earned, bought, sold, and used as a trade vehicle for goods in the Second Life universe. The creators of the LindeX exchange have made it possible for those with Second Life Linden to trade it for the US Dollar (and other currencies). The current exchange rate from Linden to USD is 250 Linden per one USD. If you're thoroughly invested in the Second Life world, you have the possibility of even making a real world profit (it's very rare to make anything over $10; however, it's not impossible).

There are Second Life Guides that are around to make your second life (pun totally intended) as easy as possible. You can always go the professional route and take a gander at the official Second Life Guide at the Second Life website; however, if you want a player's perspective, you'll want to find something a little less corporate and more personal. There are many forums out there created by Second Life citizens who want to help you get acclimated to the Second Life universe. Looking into Second Life Guides that are user created also ensures that you'll have at least one friend that can help you through tough times that you'll, no doubt, run into as you continue to exist in your Second Life world.

If you're more of an adventurous creator, then you'll want to invest some time into a Second Life Guide that concentrates on scripting. This way, you've got the makings of your own universe, you can control every aspect of your world, and you'll be able to find the best ways to rack up on your Second Life Linden. You'll have seemingly magical powers as you go through your day --bending the laws of physics to fit your needs. In conjunction with Linden Labs, the official Second Life Scripting Guide allows its users to explore the furthest reaches of Second Life, giving them unparalleled power in their own world and showing them how far they can stretch their imaginations.

Second Life Guides aren't created equally. Some are more advanced than others, some won't give be able to help you get the Second Life Linden you need, so you'll have to source that out elsewhere. But, no matter who you are or what your dream life is, you'll be able to make it a virtual reality with the help of some of the more sophisticated guides.

What stories do you have from playing online RPGs?

In a few weeks time I'll be starting a MMORPG-based novel. I've been playing Guild Wars and FFXI for years, and have had a lot of great experiences online that rival (and often exceed!) real life experiences for drama, fun, humour and sheer gob-smacking outrage. But, there're only so many online RPGs I can play for research, so if anyone has had any gripping experiences or dramatic social circumstances in one of these games, drop a post here and share it!

I'm talking about the interactions with people, the stories of guild rivalries and in-game marriages, the time that WOW player was killed in real life and everybody had the in-game funeral by the virtual coast, or the day you were betrayed by a long-standing ally for a few rare items.

i have to be honest with you....i have no idea what you are talking about.

rpg?? mmorpg?? the?????
