Baadasssss! is actor-writer-director Mario Van Peebles's best film since 1991's New Jack City; more accurately, it is a mature and often dazzling work beyond previous expectations of Van Peebles' skills as a filmmaker. Certainly he was inspired by the autobiographical subject: The making of his father's 1971, independently produced Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song, in which young Mario made his acting debut amidst a frantic, high-pressure operation that paid off when African American audiences embraced the film. Playing his ownhard-nosed dad, Melvin Van Peebles, the younger talent explores--honestly, but not ruthlessly--Melvin's rocky relationship with an ever-disappointed Mario (played by Holes' Khleo Thomas), but he also portrays the elder man as a stubborn idealist against a backdrop of Hollywood cynicism about black entertainment. The film is a whirlwind of action and innovative scenes recreating personal history but without the insistent discursiveness of memory. With Nia Long, Ossie Davis, and Saul Rubinek. --Tom Keogh

It's sick! It's twisted! It's House of 1,000 Corpses, and it's more fun than a wholesome bowl of "Agatha Crispies"! Dropped by two studios (Universal and MGM) and doomed to obscurity until Lions Gate Films gave it a limited theatrical release, Rob Zombie's gonzo horror flick is a blood-spattered throwback to the gore-fests of the '70s, lending new meaning to the term "box-office gross." Most critics misunderstood this unbridled exercise in graphic style and violence, but for devoted horror buffs it's a refreshing rebuttal to the comparatively "polite" frights of the post-Scream era. While paying homage to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Last House on the Left, Motel Hell, and other gory classics, Zombie's ramshackle plot (two young couples are terrorized by an inbred family of homicidal maniacs) lacks a crucial sense of dread, but his pastiche of vivid colors, grainy fetish-films, and photo-negative imagery is guaranteed to hold your attention. A bona-fide cult item, this House is definitely worth a visit... if you dare. --Jeff Shannon

America's Sweethearts is just the kind of romantic froth that makes for pleasant viewing on a lazy, rainy day. While Julia Roberts, John Cusack, and Catherine Zeta-Jones offer high-wattage marquee value, costar and cowriter Billy Crystal reworks Singin' in the Rain for latter-day Hollywood, where estranged superstars Gwen (Zeta-Jones) and Eddie (Cusack) reluctantly promote their latest movie by pretending their messily disputed relationship is still going strong. The studio chief (Stanley Tucci) is desperate for a hit, so he hires a seasoned publicist (Crystal) to orchestrate a press junket that will cast everyone in a profitable light. The catch: The director (Christopher Walken) has abducted his own film in an act of artistic extortion, and Gwen's sister and longtime assistant Kiki (Roberts) is the true object of Eddie's desire. Chaos ensues at the luxury hotel where the junket is scheduled, and America's Sweethearts pokes easy fun at the cynical machinery that keeps Hollywood running. Quotable quips are delivered in abundance, and while Zeta-Jones is readily convincing as a bitchy narcissist, Roberts effortlessly steals the show with her trademark charms. All of which makes America's Sweethearts lightly entertaining, even though it never rises (like Roberts's earlier Notting Hill) to the level of classic romantic comedy, hampered by a script that too often substitutes easy laughs for ripe satirical invention, flashing a phony grin when it should be baring its fangs. --Jeff Shannon

Dwight is trained in the art of surveillance, has a purple belt in Goju-Ryu Karate, and is a former volunteer sheriff. Hes an aficionado of pop culture, science fiction, classic rock, and muscle cars. Here are some more information for Rainn Wilson:

The Office is one of the most interesting tv series in the comedy genre to be released on DVD in the recent times. The series revolves around the life of the staff members of a Pennsylvania based newspaper company and the various issues that the office faces on a day to day basis.
The name of the company is Dunder Mifflin and is a bureaucratic labyrinth where it is impossible to get any work done in a straight forward manner. The TV series had been hugely popular mainly because the story line is such that most viewers would be able to relate to it in one way or the other. The office is managed by Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell is quite a lunatic and a very hilarious character. He uses his own logic and his less than correct political strategies to get work done from others. In a very hilarious way he is always trying to lift up the spirits of the people in the office by organizing various activities which are meant to be fun, but are often not.
Rainn Wilson who plays the character of Dwight Schurte is the employee who is always sucking up to the boss and trying his best to keep him happy. Dwight's ways are not very popular with the rest of the people in the office and he often gets into arguments with Jim Halpert, played by John Krasinki. Dwight honestly wishes to get rid of Jim at the earliest. Jim has a crush on Pam Beesley, played by Jenna Fisher throughout the series which remains unspoken.
These main characters try to get their work done in the office while trying to rule the space and suck up to the boss. The remaining characters and workers in the office are normal employees who are stuck in a bizarrely functioning work environment. The Office season 1-5 is a collection of hilarious episodes provided by Stephen Merchant and Ricky Gervais. The Office had first been launched in the UK and then following its popularity it had been launched in the US where it gained immense popularity. In the first season itself there are a number of funny episodes where Michael tries to show himself as a very productive and brilliant worker when a camera crew arrives at the office. There are a number of verbal wars between Dwight and Jim, which are followed in the rest of the seasons as well. The office makes for a very entertaining and a very funny series for all times.

The Office Never Fails To Tickle You Funny Bones
Whether it is the outrageously dorky Dwight Schrute making some strange observation or the dim-witted boss, Michael Scott, making an ignorant, racist comment, the characters of “The Office†never fail to tickle audience's funny bone.
The personalities in the Scranton branch of the Dunder-Mifflin paper supply company are so simple, yet each one is hysterical. Many represent the stereotypes in real offices.  Regional manager Michael (Steve Carell) thinks he's the coolest, funniest, best boss ever - which, of course, makes him the uncoolest, most obnoxious and annoying boss as far as his staff are concerned. Salesman Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) has always loved receptionist Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) and loves sabotaging his cube-mate, the know-it-all Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson). Ryan Howard (B.J. Novak) started as a young, smart, self-possessed temp, but quickly figured out the real office politics despite Michael's attempts to instill the official point-of-view, and gets himself a job at corporate HQ in New York. The staff is rounded out by quiet Phyllis Lapin Vance (Phyllis Smith), beaten down by the working life Stanley Hudson (Leslie David Baker), office alcoholic Meredith Palmer (Kate Flannery), up-tight Angela Martin (Angela Kinsey), formerly closeted homosexual Oscar Martinez (Oscar Nunez), stocky and uncouth Kevin Malone (Brian Baumgartner), ambivalent kleptomaniac Creed Bratton (Creed Bratton), Sad Sack HR rep Toby Flenderson (Paul Lieberstein), persistently love-struck Kelly Kapoor (Mindy Kaling), icy corporate manager turned Michael's girlfriend Jan Levinson (Melora Hardin), former Stamford branch denizen and Cornell graduate Andy Bernard (Ed Helms), warehouse foreman Darryl Philbin (Craig Robinson), and Pam's ex-fiancé Roy Anderson (David Denman).
One of the most popular primetime shows of the past two years is NBC's The Office. With two Emmies for outstanding comedy series, a Golden Globe for best actor in 2006, and two Screen Actors Guild awards for outstanding performance, the show can easily be dubbed a masterpiece among sitcoms.
The idea for the show was taken from a British series also called The Office, which has the same setup but a different flavor of humor. This spin-off resulted in slightly mixed reviews on www.imdb.com, many in the camp that it is the “Best Show on Television,†and some warning it's “a total failure.†The awkward moments crafted by Carell's and Wilson's characters are hilarious to some, and difficult to watch for others. However, the positive feelings for the American version seem to have been enough to win the show fifteen awards in the past five years.
The show's success is especially evident after making a strong comeback from a 100 day writer's strike that ended in February. In an NBC interview on what it was like to be back, co-creator and cast member Steve Carell claimed that it was like being back at home. After raving about those he acts with, he also confessed humbly, “when we're doing it, it seems like its pretty funny. I mean, it makes us laugh while we're doing it. And I think that's a good sign.â€
