He has played in many roles, from serious and even dark to funny. Whatever the role, you can always find him and will always remember his character and performance. He is - by far - one of the most talented actors and entertainers around. His role in "Mrs. Doubtfire" was nothing short of sentimental humor. "Death to Smoochy" proved that he was not only funny, but that he had a bit of a dark side to him. His role in "What Dreams May Come" showed audiences that he is just as serious and dramatic as he is funny. Whatever the role, Williams can put himself in the right shoes and continuously wow audiences. His most recent performance, "Weapons of Self Destruction" proves that nothing has changed and he will have you on the floor. Robin Williams was raised in Michigan, but is originally from Chicago. Surprisingly, Williams was a very quiet and shy child. He did perform impression of his Grandfather for his mother, but that was about it. (Hard to believe when you watch the man today!) While in high school, Williams became involved with the schools drama club. This is when the boy began to come out of his shell and conquer a bit of his shyness. He ended up being one of only 20 students who were accepted into Juilliard - a phenomenal feat even today! He, along with infamous Christopher Reeves, were the only two students accepted into Julliard's advanced program. Both actors are memorable and adored; this program, along with their skill, obviously provided them with a great foundation. Williams' career really began when he played Mork in and off-the-air TV show known as "Mork and Mindy". Mork was an alien, who came to Boulder, Colorado to make a life and get information. This is where his comedy career took a name, and he became known as an actor who could deliver rapid-fire comedy. After this he moved on to other movies that were more focused on comedy, on the outward appearance of his character. (There were always deeper parts to his characters, but you had to read between the lines to see them.) Some of his earlier works like "Good Morning Vietnam" and "The Birdcage" are what helped him become noticeable and get his foot in the door. His role as the voice of the animated Genie on Disney's "Aladdin" was another big stepping-stone in his career. During the 1970's and 1980's, Robin Williams was performing many different stand-up comedy routines, which often sold out. He also performed on three HBO specials, in 1978 - "Off the Wall", in 1982 - "An Evening with Robin Williams" and in 1986 - "Robin Williams: Live at the Met". He also performed in a one-man show called "Robin Williams Live on Broadway", which was very successful for him. He even made it to number 13 on Comedy Central's list - "100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time." Fans and peers noticed every step, in his career - this is how he has gotten where he is today. Tickets are currently being sold for his most recent production - "Weapons of Self Destruction". Williams is one of the most skilled performers around. He has spent his life entertaining audiences; do not miss your chance to see him once again. By Matt Ryan, article sponsored by StubPass.com.
