Mamma Mia!

'Mamma Mia!' is a musical for the stage written by Catherine Johnson, a British playwright. It is based on the songs of ABBA and Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, former members of the band, were integral in the development of the show. The plot is fictional and features ABBA hits such as "Super Trouper", "Dancing Queen", "Lay All Your Love on Me", "Take a Chance on Me", "Money, Money, Money", "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "Thank You for the Music", "SOS", "Voulez-Vous", and "The Winner Takes It All."

The story follows a twenty year old, Sophie, on the verge of her wedding to Sky in Greece. She desperately wants her father to walk her down the aisle despite having no idea of his identify. Sophie finds an old diary belonging to her mother which details romantic trysts with three men, one of which is Sophie's father. Unbeknownst to and acting as her mother, Sophie invites all three men to the wedding assuming that she would know immediately which man is her father. When the men arrive, she is even more confused, and chaos ensues when the best friends of Sophie's mother arrive and stir the metaphoric pot.

The musical premiered at the Prince Edward Theatre in London's West End on 6 April 1999 and transferred to the Prince of Wales theatre on 9 June 2004. It is still in production at the Prince of Wales theatre as of 9 January 2011. The show ran in Toronto, Ontario at the Royal Alexandra Theatre from 23 May 2000 to 22 May 2005. Finally, the show opened on Broadway on 18 October 2001 and is still running as of 8 March 2011 at the Winter Garden Theatre. Directed by Phyllida Lloyd, the show is choreographed by Anthony Van Laast.

'Mamma Mia!' also had tours in North American, Spain, South Africa, Australia, Asia, Japan, and Korea. An international tour has entertained cities such as: Dublin, Edinburgh, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Estonia, Durban, Brussels, Lisbon, Cologne, Paria, Munich, Vienna, Frankfurt, Zurich, Berlin, Belfast, Manchester, Dubai, Copenhagen, Hensinki, Tel Aviv, Shanghai, Beijing, Budapest, Prague, Glasgow, Athens, Paris, Monte Carlo, Stockholm, Instanbul, Florence, Auckland, Taiwan, Newcastle, Munich, Liverpool, and Cork.
