Fifth Avenue Shopping – For that Classy Craving

The main road of Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, New York boasts of being the most expensive street in the world. Located between 34th Street and 59th Street, it is a wonderland for shoppers of expensive tastes.

Originated as a street for posh residents in the end of nineteenth century, it bloomed into a retailing zone in the 1990s. Benjamin Altman, who owns the B. Altman and Company store opposite the Empire State Building (which was then the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel), opened up the area for commercial business. Since then, businesses and apartment complexes have opened up for the elite crowd of America making it a very swanky area to live in.

There are many upmarket shops situated in Fifth Street such as Bergdorf Goodman, Bulgaru, Cartier, Fendi, Gucci, Harry Winston, Kenneth Cole, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Sephora, Trump Tower, Versace, H Stern and Takashimaya. The NBA store has a huge collection of all kinds of basketball items such as posters, jerseys, jewellery and also has a separate area if you want to shoot some hoops.  One of the most visited shops is the Saks Fifth Avenue, which is a department store containing most of American and European designer fashions lines. The famous building which Audrey Hepburn is very fond of in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s ‘ (1961), selling all kinds of jewellery in all kinds of prices such as rings, necklaces, key rings, money clips and cuff links can also be found in Fifth Avenue.  Everyone’s favourite shop World of Disney is a paradise to shoppers of all ages.  You will find Disney items to browse through and buy as well as a trip down memory lane with a gallery displaying items from the past.

Fifth Avenue is also used for parades throughout year and you will find the road closed to vehicles on most Sundays. The St Patrick’s Day Parade and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade are famous throughout the world and it brings a crowd from all around America as well as the world.

Fifth Avenue is filled with shops on both sides of the street without an inch to spare, and every shop is a temptation waiting for you. If you are staying at a New York city hotel, then it is easier to do your shopping, relax after a while, and get back on the street to continue shopping.  The Millennium UN Plaza Hotel New York is located in Midtown Manhattan and gives you a chance to experience the chic individuals living and visiting the city.
