Is The Truth Out There?

The X Files was one of the most popular sci-fi television series of its time, and with good reason. Following FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, a mismatched team of paranormal investigators played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson respectively, the X Files delved into a world of the supernatural with a strong focus on UFOs and the existence of aliens.

One of the most iconic images remaining from the show is, indeed, Mulder's famous "I Want to Believe" UFO poster, which fans can find on eBay and on various posters sites, and it is the show's mysterious exploration into conspiracy theories regarding aliens and more that had sci-fi lovers and people who just enjoyed a good, scary, well-written show coming back for more every week.

Fox Mulder was the true believer of the pair, a loner who was sent down to the basement of the FBI headquarters to work solo due to his unconventional interests. At the beginning, we learn that Dana Scully is paired with Mulder at first to debunk his investigations and bring about the closure of the X Files - the name given to bizarre and inexplicable events that Mulder claims are instances of the paranormal. However, as the series goes on, Scully's belief in science and rationality is challenged again and again as she is continually exposed to weirder and more inexplicable events until even she is forced to believe in at least a few of the strange and wonderful things they come across, even if only a little - though, humorously, Scully tends not to be present when the irrefutable proof of the paranormal is presented to Mulder, meaning many of her reports Come Back stating she cannot back up his assertions.

When the second movie came out several years following the series' closing, fans flocked to see the aptly-titled "I Want to Believe" - but the bigger question is whether or not a third film will follow. Long time fans of the show will know that the famed villain, the Cigarette Smoking Man, spoke of a date in the future when the alien invasion will take place on December 22, 2012. Could this mean that the X Files will return in 2012 to reveal whether or not this invasion will occur? The date is, after all, the final date in the Mayan calendar - making it all the more spooky that such a momentous terror could occur.

While we're waiting to find out, however, we can sate ourselves with episodes of the X Files on a Sky HD pack. The truth is out there - but you might have to wait until 2012 to find out what it is!
