"Which Andy Warhol posters would YOU choose for your apartment?" I asked an artsy-creative 20-year-old buddy of mine. In response, I got a list of Warhol's posters that I had not given much notice before. (Oh yes, that AND an enjoyable discussion of art and Indie music and generational profiles.) In any event, my student friend's Andy Warhol poster selections are top-notch. He demonstrates excellent taste--taste that is, in his own words, "both mainstream and eclectic." So, without further ado, here is Cool Young Friend's List of Must-Have Andy Warhol Posters.

1. Four Monkeys

Created in 1983 to be part of a children's art exhibit, "Four Monkeys" is actually a series of miniature paintings, Of all of the Andy Warhol posters available, this is perhaps best for a child's room. inspired by Warhol's own memories of little wind-up toys. When Four Monkeys was exhibited, the paintings were carefully hung at a child's eye level--and upon a silver fish wallpaper background Warhol himself had designed.

2. Sunset

I had never seen this one before, believe it or not. I had seen some of Warhol's other sunset prints--with the giant sun in the center. This one is so interesting, with the collection of rectangles framing the central "pieces" in the composition. Love it! Great choice for a bedroom.

3. Beethoven

Would you rather have your Warhol Beethoven with blue face or red face? Well, you can have either. (I personally prefer the blue-faced Beethoven of these two small (11" x 14") prints, though I have not the slightest idea why.)

4. Moon Explorer Robot

This one is available full-size not in any Andy Warhol posters collection that I know of--but in a giclee print version.. It is a visually stunning feast of colors, typography, and shapes.

5. Are You Different

Yes, yes! I am different. And to prove it (and turn the question back on the rest of the world), I have a stellar Warhol "Are You Different" giclee print on the wall....

6. Be A Somebody With A Body

Fun fact: Warhol presented this ad-inspired painting as a gift to Sly Stallone in 1986. It's true--he really did. Isn't it difficult to picture Stallone having enough of a sense of irony to enjoy this fully? (But perhaps I've underestimated Rambo. Either way, it's great for those who prefer the more ironic of the Andy Warhol posters.)

7. Any Marilyn Monroe picture

My friend says any of them, but I'm saying the really sultry Marilyn on the red background is unbeatable. It BLAZES in any room.

8. Superman

There is really no commentary needed on this one. I take that back: the one comment I must make is that I really can't imagine being sad or grumbly in a room where this was hanging.

How do I get large poster sized prints from my 4 x 5 positive transparency film?

I have been taking a View Camera class and now have quite a collection of 4 x 5 positive transparency film that I would like to have printed. I have been unable to find much information on search engines. help! )

The ilfochrome lab in Burbank does an outstanding job. http://www.lab-ciba.com/

You could also have them drum scanned into a file and then make 'R' prints just about anywhere you want. I have seen 30x40" prints done very well with this technique. Either way you go it won't be cheap.
