Friday Friday is that rarest specimen of African American cinema: a 'hood movie refreshingly free of the semiseriousness and moralism of shoot 'em up soaps such as Boyz N the Hood, yet still true to the inner-city experience. Scripted by rapper Ice Cube, Friday is a no-frills tale of a day in the life of a pair of young blacks in South Central. Cube plays Craig, a frustrated teen who endures the ultimate humiliation: getting fired on his day off. Then unknown Chris Tucker plays Smokey, a marijuana-worshipping homeboy whose love for the green stuff lands him in predicament after predicament. Sitting on the stoop of Craig's rundown home, the two hilariously confront a kaleidoscopic array of gangbangers, weed dealers, crack heads, prostitutes, scheming girlfriends, and neighborhood bullies--all of whom, it should be noted, come off as sympathetic even as they are being caricatured, a true achievement in the crass, "booty call" environment of '90s African American comedy. --Ethan Brown Next Friday Ice Cube wrote and stars as Craig in this sequel to Friday, which he also wrote. His nemesis from that film, neighborhood bully Debo (Tommy "Tiny" Lister Jr.), has just escaped from county jail and is out for revenge. To protect Craig, Craig's father (John Witherspoon) sends his son to stay with his Uncle Elroy (Don "D.C." Curry), who won the lottery and bought a house in Rancho Cucamonga. Craig expects the suburbs to be dull, but no sooner has he arrived than conflicts arise: The neighbors are hostile hoods, his cousin's girlfriend is out for blood and child support, and the house is about to be seized because of unpaid taxes. It's up to Craig and his cousin Day-Day (Mike Epps) to solve these problems before the day is over. It's a rambling, loose movie, but a genuinely entertaining one. Ice Cube doesn't write punch lines, though funny lines abound; he writes richly comic characters that speak in virtual arias of bragging, complaining, and scamming. Sure, some of the characters are stereotypes and many of the jokes are about drugs and scatology--but that's been the basis of humor since Plautus and Molière. The rhythmic energy of Ice Cube's dialogue and the easy charisma of his performance make Next Friday thoroughly enjoyable. --Bret Fetzer Friday After Next Ice Cube (Barbershop) uses his relaxed, raffish charm to glide through the third movie in his Friday series. As Craig (Cube) and Day-Day (Mike Epps) sleep in the wee hours of Christmas Eve, a burglar dressed like Santa Claus breaks in and steals their presents and rent. Thus begins a classically bad day full of unsympathetic family members, obnoxious neighbors, squealing pimps, pot smoking, and sexy babes. No one's going to win any awards for this sloppy installment, loaded with preening stereotypes and half-hearted low humor; Cube generally plays straight man and lets the rest of the cast screech, yowl, and contort their faces, their performances as ornate and ritualized as a Japanese Noh play. But if you're a fan, Friday After Next will give you a modest dose of Cube's goofy humor. John Witherspoon and Don "D.C." Curry return as Craig's eternally disgruntled father and uncle. --Bret Fetzer

Archer: Season 1
List Price: $29.98
Sale Price: $15.94
|
|
|
Smart, literate, cheeky, profane, and frequently laugh-out-loud funny, Archer is one of the hippest animated comedies to come along in some time. That's hip in a retro kind of way; writer-producers Adam Reed and Matt Thompson, whose previous collaborations include Frisky Dingo and Sealab 2021 (both also animated, and both seen on the Adult Swim channel), have given these 10 first-season episodes a secret-agent vibe straight out of the Sean Connery James Bond '60s. At center stage is Sterling Archer (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin), top agent for an outfit known as ISIS, which just happens to be headed by his domineering, sex-starved mother, Malory (Jessica Walter). Others on the team include agent Lana Kane (Aisha Tyler), Sterling's once and no doubt future lover, nerdy company comptroller Cyril Figgis (Chris Parnell), Lana's current boyfriend, and some colorful supporting characters. But this is mostly about Sterling, who, in addition to his fancy spy chops, is an irresponsible liar, ne'er-do-well, and wastrel (he spends an entire episode breaking into the agency's mainframe so he can blame someone else for his outrageous expenses). His missions, in which he's often joined by Lana (the better to hurl flirtatious epithets at one another), are fairly stock: Cuban missile submarines off the Florida coast; an arms dealer peddling stolen weapons; a bomb threat on a luxury airship. And the animation, while effective, is limited and unlikely to remind anyone of a Pixar movie. It's the writing that really makes this show shine, as Reed and Thompson revel in an unending stream of hilarious puns, insults, and bons mots: a shirt retrieved from an Indian dry cleaner "smells like Indira Gandhi's thong," karate is "the Dane Cook of martial arts," a particularly bloody shootout is "a Charles Whitman sampler." It's definitely not for kids, but Archer is a hoot. Extras include a version of the pilot episode with an "alternate" lead character, and an interesting making-of featurette. --Sam Graham

Southland: The Complete First Season

SOUTHLAND:SSN1 - DVD Movie
TNT strikes gold again with Southland, a worthy addition to a lineup of cop dramas that already boasts such superior fare as Saving Grace and The Closer. While this show (offered here on two discs with all seven episodes from its first season) may not accomplish its producers' goal of "redefining" the genre, they have certainly succeeded in creating an alternative to procedurals like CSI and Law & Order by focusing less on the details of the crimes being investigated than on the professional and personal lives of those doing that work, specifically the uniformed officers who patrol the streets of Los Angeles and the plainclothes detectives dealing with murders, kidnappings, and other major offenses. Each episode features multiple story lines; most are well done, but those involving the "uniforms" tend to be more compelling. For them, every day is like "driving through the sewer in a glass-bottom boat," as one puts it, as they encounter everything from car theft and domestic disputes to rotting corpses and the usual array of junkies and prostitutes. A variety of cops are featured--C. Thomas Howell is good as the off-the-hinges Billy Dewey, but most involving is the relationship between Ben Sherman (Benjamin McKenzie), a rookie fresh out of the academy, and his partner John Copper (Michael Cudlitz), a more seasoned officer who gives the younger man (who also happens to be a rich kid from Beverly Hills) heavy doses of grief until the sharpshooting Sherman earns his respect. Most episodes are gritty and fairly graphic, the uncensored versions featuring the liberal use of F-bombs and other profanity. The writing, much of it by creator Ann Biderman, is excellent, with juicy dialogue, well-developed plots (like an ongoing story involving the detectives' efforts to protect a young girl who witnessed a murder), plenty of black humor, and characters you can care about. A making-of featurette is the sole bonus feature. --Sam Graham

The Little Mermaid - Ariel's Beginning
List Price: $29.99
Sale Price: $21.50

|
A prequel to The Little Mermaid, The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning is good family entertainment that deserves a spot in every Disney collection--even if the film isn't quite as striking as the original. It's hard to imagine the underwater world of Atlantica without music, but following the death of Ariel's mother Queen Athena, King Triton (Jim Cummings) outlaws music because of the painful memories it evokes. Ariel (Jodi Benson) and her six sisters are unhappy with their boring daily routine, unfeeling governess Marina Del Ray (Sally Field), and superficial relationship with their father; but only Ariel has the courage to confront their father with a desire for a more fulfilling life. A chance meeting with Flounder (Parker Goris) leads Ariel to the underground Catfish music club where the Caribbean jazz is hot and the starred soloist is none other the King's Chief of Staff Sebastian (Samuel Wright). Suddenly, a whole new world full of promise and excitement opens up for Ariel and her sisters, but things get ugly when Marina tells King Triton about the club and his fury erupts. Can the power of music, combined with Ariel's heartfelt pleas, convince King Triton to pardon all the underground music lovers and reconsider his ban on music? Ariel's Beginning is a wholesome story about love, family, and the power of music that's nicely animated and features a host of good music--the only things missing from the first movie are Ariel's innocent sense of wonder and the extreme catchiness of the original songs. Bonus features include two deleted scenes, four sing-along songs with on-screen lyrics; a mermaid discovery game in which viewers learn about Ariel and her six sisters; a quiz that matches viewers with the character most like themselves; an interview with director Peggy Holmes, and a look at the Broadway production of The Little Mermaid Under the Sea. (Ages 3 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

Freedom Flyers: The Tuskegee Airmen of World War II (Oxford Oral History Series)
List Price: $24.95
Sale Price: $5.95
|
|
|
Product Description As the country's first African American military pilots, the Tuskegee Airmen fought in World War II on two fronts: against the Axis powers in the skies over Europe and against Jim Crow racism and segregation at home. Although the pilots flew more than 15,000 sorties and destroyed more than 200 German aircraft, their most far-reaching achievement defies quantification: delivering a powerful blow to racial inequality and discrimination in American life. In this inspiring account of the Tuskegee Airmen, historian J. Todd Moye captures the challenges and triumphs of these brave pilots in their own words, drawing on more than 800 interviews recorded for the National Park Service's Tuskegee Airmen Oral History Project. Denied the right to fully participate in the U.S. war effort alongside whites at the beginning of World War II, African Americans--spurred on by black newspapers and civil rights organizations such as the NAACP--compelled the prestigious Army Air Corps to open its training programs to black pilots, despite the objections of its top generals. Thousands of young men came from every part of the country to Tuskegee, Alabama, in the heart of the segregated South, to enter the program, which expanded in 1943 to train multi-engine bomber pilots in addition to fighter pilots. By the end of the war, Tuskegee Airfield had become a small city populated by black mechanics, parachute packers, doctors, and nurses. Together, they helped prove that racial segregation of the fighting forces was so inefficient as to be counterproductive to the nation's defense. Freedom Flyers brings to life the legacy of a determined, visionary cadre of African American airmen who proved their capabilities and patriotism beyond question, transformed the armed forces--formerly the nation's most racially polarized institution--and jump-started the modern struggle for racial equality. Here are some more information for Poster Benjamin:

Five Great Small Business Marketing Ideas
Every entrepreneur wants to use time-proven, effective selling tactics that build strong brand awareness and increase its clientele. Home business owners today may not really have the tools to spend an insane sum of money on TV advertising, radio spots, or other pricey advertising avenues such as poster advertisements decorated with up-to-the-minute graphics. Other advertising techniques exist that are cost-effective and have the facility to get the corporation's branding message across. We have looked at some of the most efficient and least costly advertising measures from websites such as Business data Source for home entrepreneurs that we think will fit in with your financial position while helping to form a moneymaking business. These include :
1. Postcard promoting
2. Email blasts
3. Social networking sites ( i.e. Twitter or Facebook )
4. Podcasting
5. Creating a web site
It isn't surprising that 163.3 million north Americans use the internet if it is to discover new info, shop on the web, or find out about a business. Because of this, it is vital for start-up and home businesses to leverage the power of the internet instead of focusing on conventional advertising maneuvers like print media and television advertising.
Postcard promoting may appear slightly outdated, but it is important to highlight the massive effect of postcards. Postcards released on 4' by 6' index cards are highly conspicuous in the post because they can be flipped over and read in a matter of a couple of seconds. Immediately, the message is sent across to the end-user without them having to peruse through a leaflet or packet that often instills a scarcity of interest or disappointment.
e-mail blasts are glorious for home entrepreneurs to send out to their network of contacts. Even better, they're excellent for building a database on a website. E-mail blasts should be kept straightforward, to-the-point, and underline promotional offers to gain the reader's attention. Likewise, they can be sent out to multiple parties from the recipient, increasing personal recommendation hum.
Social networking sites have become a promoting phenomenon that is helpful for companies in spreading their brand, mission, and services and/or products in the shape of a user-profile. Also, sites such as Twitter.com and Facebook.com have changed the face of net promoting by creating the online sphere as a word of mouth metropolis. Now is the time to take merit of social networking sites.
Another useful promoting idea is to form a simple podcast. Not sure how or where to start? Ensure your PC has a web cam. If it does not, these gadgets can be bought at cheap price at large computer and electronic shops. Introduce your business idea through the podcast that is less than thirty seconds. Podcasts are a superb promoting tool because they will be able to be posted on a website, sent through email, and posted on sites such as YouTube. According to Quantcast, YouTube averages 72.5 million users every month.
With the execution of these media, companies are likely to see a rise in interest. The following step would be to form a very simple, user-friendly internet site that summarizes the tenet of the business without too many graphics or distractions. For example Ethos coach ( www.EthosMentor.com ) offers cheap branding solutions for entrepreneurs. Following these steps can help a businessman brace their brand and reach their selected demographic.

any ideas on what it means ? or interpretations ?
: thanks guys. .
damn that picture scared me.. hahaha
uhmm well i got this from a website:
Death
To dream about the death of a loved one, suggests that you are lacking a certain aspect or quality that the loved one embodies. Ask yourself what makes this person special or what do you like about him. It is that very quality that you are lacking in your own relationship or circumstances. Alternatively, it indicates that whatever that person represents has no part in your own life.
Bath
To dream that you are bathing someone, suggests that you are seeking a closer connection with that person. It also points to your nurturing side.
Photograph
To see a photograph in your dream, indicates that there is a relationship that needs your attention. You are not looking deep enough in the relationship or situation. It may also mean that you are clinging on to the past or to some false hope. Consider who or what is on the photo. The image may be trying to take you back to a particular moment in time.
To dream that you are altering a photo, suggests that you are putting out a false image, Or something is not what it seems to be.
To dream that you rip up a photo, indicates that you are letting go of the past and living for the future.
