Here are some more information for Playstation Squaresoft: 10) Dark Cloud 9) Harvest Moon 7)Breath of Fire 6) Heroes of Might and Magic 5) Baldur's Gate 4) Gothic 3 3) Final Fantasy VII 2) Chrono Cross 1) Legend of Dragoon My name is Brendan and I grew up playing video games, so whether I like it or not, they are a part of my life and many other people's as well. It is very fun for me to discuss the topic of video games so check out my website to see more articles that talk about the gaming industry http://brendanigan.com In this article I'm gonna review my favorite classic RPG game, Chrono Cross. Keep reading... Chrono Cross is the sequel of Chrono Trigger, Squaresoft's legendary 16-bit classic game. I played this game when I was still 14 years old. For me, this is the best RPG game ever made of all time. And I am sure if most gamers who have experience playing Chrono Cross are agree with my opinion. Story The story of this game is pretty unique, just like squaresofts other RPG, Xenogears. Serge, a cute looking boy finds himself trapped in another world. In his quest to return home, he meets with kid, a rowdy adventurer. Along his journey, Serge will reveal the answer about his true identity and his ultimate destiny. Gameplay The battle system offered by Chrono Cross is very unique and innovative. There are several elements in the battle system that makes this game unique such as fields effects, stamina points, innate attributes and element grid. The better you master the battle strategy, the easier you beat the enemies and bosses. Chrono Cross Unique Features *Different from most RPG games, you can see the enemies very clearly on the screen. This feature is first time introduced in Chrono Trigger. *You can escape from any battles, even from bosses! *40 playable Characters In this game there are more than 30 playable characters with their unique stories and abilities. *Forget about ugly looking enemies and bosses in other games. In this games, they look cool and amazing. Graphics This game's pre rendered 3D backgrounds is probably the best in PlayStation console, even if it is compared to Final Fantasy series. Chrono Cross also offers great variety of detailed, colorful and pleasing environments. Sound Yasunori Mitsuda is the maestro behind the sound making of this game. The sound is the best aspect of Chrono Cross. The whole soundtracks are new and unique while some of them are rearrangements of Chrono Trigger soundtracks. Never call your self a real RPG gamer if you never play this RPG game. Thanks for reading my article. This game came out when people where still being warmed up to the PS2. I was blown away when I saw the graphics and it was refreshing not to deal with turn based RPGs for a change. Dark Cloud 2 was ok, but I don't know why developers love to make everything cell shaded, it is unacceptable for anything that isn't DBZ related.
There are many games out there with this title slapped across them, but few can match the game play and quirkiness that fans fell in love with in the beginning. I personally deem Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life to be the stopping point in the series, though Island of Happiness is enjoyable. The DS is fun, but I want to see Harvest Moon on next gen systems.
Shenmue
This game on the Dreamcast is very much underappreciated. It is recorded in history as the most expensive game to ever make, in the hundreds of millions. Shenmue combines elements from RPGs, action games, and mystery genres with an added bonus of kung fu.
Breath of Fire 1 was a very enjoyable, old school RPG: build up your character, pick up team members along the way, explore and get treasure, kick the crap out of the bad guys. There is nothing wrong with that simple formula. Breath of Fire 2 did justice to the series by giving the same level of enjoyment as the first one, but since then the games seem to be last luster and veering away from the aspects that made the game great to begin with. Remake the first one, put it on the PS3 and watch them fly off the shelves.
The first 2 games in this series were great but a problem arose after they were released, developers stopped caring and the name of the series became affiliated with sub-par strategy games. Bring back the 2-D graphics with a little touch up and send players out of their castle to collect gems and coal like in the old days.
Baldur's Gate took the role-playing community by storm when it came out in 1998. It stuck to the roots of medieval fantasy role-playing, but added a level of depth in characters and story that kept players coming back. I don't count the various Baldur's Gate titles for PS2 that have one player running around like Gauntlet Legends; I mean a true sequel to the stories of Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, fans have been waiting long enough.
There does seem to be a sequel in the works called Arcania: A Gothic Tale, the screenshots so far seem to be on par with the level of detail we've seen in the past games. Gothic 3 got mixed reviews, mainly because of the clunky controls and annoying glitches. Looking past those flaws and playing it on a fast computer, you can really see why this game is a gem and look forward to the next installment.
Not a sequel, but a remake. Give the fans what they want, FFVII with PS3 graphics. People still play it on the PSX so there wouldn't be any doubt that the game would sell. Characters like Sephiroth and Vincent are practically household names and when somone says the word Cloud, I think of a guy with yellow hair instead of evaporated water in the sky. I doubt further Final Fantasy games will ever its match the lasting impact, so they might as well reintroduce it to fans and those who were too young in 1997 to play it.
This game was a terrific sequel to another great game: Chrono Trigger; Squaresoft needs to keep the series alive with a much desired 3rd installment. It is baffling to see these terrific games fizzle out because no one took the initiative to keep the momentum going. Chrono Cross is indeed a classic game, but further generations aren't going to appreciate games that with Playstation 1 graphics. Kids these days don't appreciate a good storyline like they used to.
Haven't we waited long enough? It's been almost 10 years since it came out; it's time for Legend of Dragoon 2 to grace the Playstation 3. It's actually pretty surprising that Sony never offered a sequel, there were mixed reviews with LOD came out, but there is a general consensus that it is a really good game. Any sane person would realize that there is a gold mine to be had in a sequel or at the very least in a remake. Touch up the graphics, round off the edges, and sign me up for a copy.Classic RPG Games Review - Chrono Cross
