Why Everyone (Else) Is a Hypocrite: Evolution and the Modular Mind Why Everyone (Else) Is a Hypocrite: Evolution and the Modular Mind
List Price: $18.95
Sale Price: $12.76

We're all hypocrites. Why? Hypocrisy is the natural state of the human mind. Robert Kurzban shows us that the key to understanding our behavioral inconsistencies lies in understanding the mind's design. The human mind consists of many specialized units designed by the process of evolution by natural selection. While these modules sometimes work together seamlessly, they don't always, resulting in impossibly contradictory beliefs, vacillations between patience and impulsiveness, violations of our supposed moral principles, and overinflated views of ourselves. This modular, evolutionary psychological view of the mind undermines deeply held intuitions about ourselves, as well as a range of scientific theories that require a "self" with consistent beliefs and preferences. Modularity suggests that there is no "I." Instead, each of us is a contentious "we"--a collection of discrete but interacting systems whose constant conflicts shape our interactions with one another and our experience of the world. In clear language, full of wit and rich in examples, Kurzban explains the roots and implications of our inconsistent minds, and why it is perfectly natural to believe that everyone else is a hypocrite.

Everything Explained Through Flowcharts is packed with meticulously designed charts that trace the labyrinthine connections that order the universe, illuminate life's great mysteries, and cause eye strain in senior citizens. Swiss scientists at the prestigious University of Helsinki have said that Everything Explained Through Flowcharts is the closest thing there is to a working unified field theory, and have gone on to claim that they aren't Swiss, aren't scientists, and aren't sure whether or not Helsinki is in Switzerland. And yet the Swiss consulate has not denied that this book contains more than two hundred illustrations, forty mammoth charts, and innumerable supporting graphs and essays, including: An illustrated matrix of WWF Finishing Moves Heavy metal band names taxonomy The noble art of zeppelin warfare demystified How to win any argument Tragedy to comedy conversion chart for comedians A creepy drawing of a baby skeleton How to tell if you're an evil twin

Contrary to popular belief, the online arcade gaming community is still as strong as ever. Even in today's modern graphic oriented society, there are still a vast number of dedicated online arcade communities that survive.

These communities have refused to fade away and die, even with today's technological advances in computer graphics; the communities are still as strong as ever.

A lot of this may be down to the fact hat the online arcade games communities still manage to conduct regular tournaments that offer huge prize money to the winners.

In May of 2007, there was a tournament hosted in New York to find the winner of the Pac man championships hosted by none other than Xbox live.

The winner of the tournament received 100,000 Microsoft points, and a Pac man live arcade trophy, but what they really wanted was the Pac man inspired Xbox 360 console which was the only one of its kind in the world.

The finalists came from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Asia, Mexico, the United States and Canada. All were selected by a criteria of scores on Xbox live arcade gaming.

The online arcade game community has benefited from the surge of multi player games to be introduced online.

The close knit community of online gamers is probably down to the fact that it spans from another era, and continually struggles in the face of all the new competition.

But thanks to many arcade games seeing a resurgence on hand held apps and consoles, it is safe to say that online arcade game communities are here to stay

The arcade game communities have survived a lot of challenges over the years, but this has just made them stronger.

Even though the number of online arcade game members in the community rose due to the introduction of the Internet, the community still remains a close knit affair.
