Most locks have a work-around, such as having a backup battery installed. There are electronic locks suitable for home installation as well, normally battery operated.

When it comes to simplicity as far as the operation, and ease of installation, the mechanical push button lock wins hands down. If your needs are complex, and you need multiple different entry codes, you should go for the electronic version.

The V110e is a much more cost-effective alternative for organizations who prefer the finished look of the GBC Velobind, but can't make the numbers work for them to spend $1000 for a hot knife binder and punch. The V110e is cost effective, but has a finish that looks professional and makes it simple to add or remove pages.

The push-button punching mechanism on the 110e can handle about 20 sheets per punch, with a smaller, 4-hole pattern. This is a pretty great capacity when you consider the cost of this electric punch system. In addition, the equipment includes an easy-to-use jam release lever, located on the side of the punch machine. If you want to prevent these paper jams, you should only punch 2 plastic covers at once, and the V110e should not be overloaded, if you want to avoid problems with efficiency or capacity.

The V110e comes standard with a re-closable bind and de-bind tool. This tool, made of grey plastic, can be used to push down the pins into the back strip as part of the binding process. Additionally, the tool works to edit the documents if the pins can be released later, giving you the versatility to edit your projects in the fastest and easiest way.

The V110e is an excellent tool in the binding process, but does have a few limits. For starters, It only functions as a punch, without any finishing equipment at all. This definitely necessitates manual insertion of the pin strips through holes, then snapping them together. This may not be an issue for a smaller project, but for bigger volumes this methodology is neither practical nor efficient.

If you want to punch bigger numbers of clear plastic covers or you want to use the punch on a very regular basis, the V110e's dies can begin dulling. The problem? These dies cannot be replaced, meaning you will have to replace the entire unit, not just the dies. If you are to use this system, it's best to use pre-punched plastic or even a poly cover. The good news? The V110e has a hole-patter that works for the 11 pin Velobind because it is compatible with the 4-pin pattern used by the V110. This requires you to ensure that some pre-punched items are available for use.

Another limitation for the V110e is that there are not a great number of readily-available supplies that can be used for the V110e system. The strips available in four pin strips in the following colors: Black; Navy Blue. White strips and Burgundy have been discontinued and are no longer available. If these 3 colors don't work for you, then you may need another system other than the V110e.

In addition, if you're looking for the security of a traditional hot knife Velobind system, then potentially, the V110e may not be the system that meets your needs. The V110e, with its re-closable strips, is by no means the perfect option for those seeking a great deal of security.

The V110e offers a professional look at an economical price. With style, function and versatility at an excellent value, the V110e is the right choice for many looking for an easy solution. For any company with lower to mid-volume applications, and small to moderate binding projects, the V110e those looking for a highly professional looking, re-closable binding solution. If your needs include high security or high-volume however, the V110e may not be the best binder for you, with its limitations in this area.

Great value? Yes. Great Security? Not necessarily. But the GBC V110 electric is a good option and should be considered carefully for your binding needs.

Ideas on how to make a button/pin for people to wear?

I need a cheap and crafty way to make pins/buttons for my coworkers to wear. I've looked at craft stores and I'm kind of thinking about just printing them out on my computer, cutting them, laminating, and putting one of those pin/button backs on them... the "pre-buttons" that I found at the craft store (all you have to do to decorate the piece of paper to put inside of it) is too big, they are like 2 1/2 inches wide... i'm looking for something a little smaller. Any ideas?

I'm a beader. It's a great hobby if you haven't tried it yet. You can make an image out of beads then sew a pin back on it. Lot of things you can do with beads and making pins.
