Joan Sutherland is not usually considered a Puccini singer, and in fact she sang the role of Turandot only in the recording studio. But for that assignment she had exactly what was needed: a voice that seemed to have no upper limits and a personality that concealed vulnerability under an air of icy detachment. She also had an ideal set of colleagues, notably Luciano Pavarotti, whose "Nessun dorma" has become practically his signature tune. --Joe McLellan

After the stiff attempts at realism in many recent features, it's a treat to see broad cartoon-style animation on the big screen in Osmosis Jones, a spoof of cop movies set inside the human body. The title character (voice by Chris Rock) is a street-smart white blood cell, working for Frank's immune system. He and Drix (David Hyde Pierce), an over-the-counter cold capsule, are reluctant partners fighting what appears to be a minor infection. Osmosis discovers Frank has really contracted a fatal virus, Thrax (Laurence Fishburne): he battles a corrupt body politic led by a venal mayor (William Shatner) to save Frank's life and win the affection of the mayor's aide, Leah (Brandy Norwood). Rock's motor-mouth delivery can get annoying, but it contrasts nicely with straight arrow Drix (imagine a fussy Buzz Lightyear). Excellent drawing and a powerful vocal performance make Thrax a genuinely frightening villain. Osmosis Jones is about two-thirds animation and one-third live action, which is why two-thirds of the film is entertaining and funny, and one-third is not. The life Osmosis and Drix save belongs to Frank, a slob played in live-action sequences by Bill Murray, who's undercut rather than supported by Chris Elliott and Molly Shannon. Shamelessly over-the-top performances make the human characters seem flatter than the two-dimensional cartoons. The live action was shot by the Farrelly brothers and features lots of gross-out gags about zits, flatulence, vomit, snot, etc. The audience endures these leaden segments, waiting to get back to the animation--and the real comedy. Suitable for ages 9 and up: profanity, violence, bodily function jokes. --Charles Solomon

It took 11 years for the sequel to The Blue Lagoon to materialize. In the naturalistic, romanticized world conjured by the films, however, one begins where the other ended. Although Emmeline and Richard die at sea, their son is rescued by a passing ship and taken in by widowed mother Sarah (Lisa Pelikan). When the crew comes down with cholera, Sarah leaves the ship with daughter Lilli and Richard Jr. They wash up on a familiar island in the South Pacific--the "blue lagoon" of the earlier film. Sarah raises the urchins as best she can but succumbs to illness after a few years on the island. The story line then echoes that of the original film. The cute kids become attractive teenagers (model-turned-actress Milla Jovovich and Brian Krause) and friendship turns to wariness, eventually blossoming into love. That love is tested when they're--finally--granted the opportunity to return to civilization. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Here are some more information for Peter Krause:

Nominated for 39 Emmys and 8 Golden Globes, including 3 (and one win) for Best TV Series - Drama, Six Feet Under is widely considered one of the best dramas currently on television. Creator Alan Ball, Oscar-winning screenwriter for American Beauty, introduces a series known for its darkly comical portrayal of a typical dysfunctional American family attempting to live their lives while running a business that thrives on death. Boasting a catchy main title theme song composed by Thomas Newman (brains behind the scores of Real Genius, Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty, Finding Nemo, and many others), Six Feet Under continues the long-running string of critically and popularly acclaimed original drama series created by HBO, following in the footsteps of Oz (1997), Sex And The City (1998), and The Sopranos (1999). Premiering in mid-summer 2001, the series takes a unique look at the highs and lows of life and death, sporting the tagline, "Your whole life is leading up to this..."
Six Feet Under follows the lives of a hardworking American family in Pasadena, California as they deal with the everyday rigors of running their family business - an independent funeral home. Nate and Ruth Fisher (Frances Conroy of The Aviator) operate the business on a daily basis with the aid of their youngest son David (Michael C. Hall), while their daughter Claire (Lauren Ambrose) deals the tribulations of high school life and their eldest son Nate Jr. (Peter Krause) works in an organic grocery store in Seattle. But family affairs take a turn for the worse when Nate Jr.'s latest visit is marked by the tragic death of his father. With the family in mourning, it's soon revealed that the late patriarch left the funeral home to be owned and run jointly by David and Nate Jr. With a massive corporation hounding the family to sell out, coupled with their own personal problems, the Fishers must learn to deal with their grief as well as each other. Well-written and well-cast, Six Feet Under continues to offer some of the most entertaining drama on TV today...
The Six Feet Under (Season 4) DVD features a number of dramatic episodes including the season premiere "Falling Into Place" in which Nate is having a difficult time dealing with Lisa's death. To further complicate matters, he gets in an argument with Lisa's mother over what to do with her body. Nate wants to respect Lisa's wishes to be buried, while Lisa's mother wants her cremated and placed in the family mausoleum. In the end, a compromise is in order... Other notable episodes from Season 4 include "That's My Dog" in which David picks up the wrong hitchhiker and ends regretting it, and "The Bomb Shelter" in which George is enthusiastic when he discovers an old bomb shelter on the Fisher property built long ago by Nathaniel's parents...

Which do you find more attractive: Peter Krause or Tom Anderson?
I am not attracted to either, because I am not attracted to men. But I do think that Peter Krause is a much better looking guy than Tom Anderson.
