Pop's rush to raid the cradle continues with this promising debut by 25-year-old Canadian singer Michael Bublé. And while the young vocal star's good looks are smart enough for a boy band, his muse seems to have sprung from a more sassy and compelling musical era. Mentored by Paul Anka (whose '50s hit "Put Your Head on My Shoulder" is covered in dreamy, cabaret fashion here), Bublé sings in the orbits of Darin and Sinatra, covering swing epoch gems ("Come Fly with Me," "The Way You Look Tonight," "That's All") and rock era standards (Van Morrison's "Moondance," "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" by the Brothers Gibb, Queen's "Crazy Little Ting Called Love") with equal aplomb. David Foster's production is typically slick and played to the back row of the bleachers, but it's informed by smart contexts provided by such arrangers as Johnny Mandel, Randy Waldman, and Mike Melvoin. If the choices of material are sometimes staid and predictable, they also give the singer a crucial framework for building toward something more challenging; his is a bright future. --Jerry McCulley

Disney's 1977 The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh may be the last word on (animated) Pooh because it so faithfully honors the first word on Pooh, penned in the 1920s by British storyteller A.A. Milne. Gently paced, subtly humorous, and blessedly understated, this adaptation reflects Walt Disney's original vision to develop the beloved British bear for a wider audience. "Crybabies--religious types mostly," consider yourselves warned. "Treehouse of Horror III" is guaranteed to offend. It's not the best of The Simpsons' annual Halloween specials, but it does manage to scare up some classic moments. This episode is really in the Zone--as in Twilight--with "Clown Without Pity," in which a Krusty the Clown doll tries to kill Homer. "King Homer" recasts King Kong with Marge as the beauty and Homer as the apelike beast. Last, but certainly best, is "Dial 'Z' for Zombie," in which Bart unwittingly unleashes a reign of brain-eating zombie ("They prefer 'living impaired'") terror. "I thought dabbling in the black arts would be good for a chuckle," Bart repents. "How wrong I was." This video also contains "Treehouse of Horror V," a real keeper that, Marge warns us, "is so scary, Congress won't even let us show it." In the first segment, no TV and no beer make Homer go crazy in "The Shinning" ("You mean 'The Shining,'" Bart corrects. "Shh, you want to get sued?" he is reprimanded). The second segment, "Time and Punishment," takes its inspiration from a Ray Bradbury story, as Homer enters a time vortex and "alters the future in ways you can't even imagine" (Ned Flanders as "the unquestioned lord and master of the world"?). The tastiest item on the menu is "Nightmare Cafeteria," in which Principal Skinner and Lunchlady Doris cook up an unsavory solution to the school's overcrowding problem. --Donald Liebenson

One Tree Hill became a fan favorite early in its run on the CW network, as a charming soap revolving around comely North Carolina high schoolers. The series' finale, its ninth season, demonstrates how great writing and acting helped the show grow past its high school roots and focus on the young-adult dramas and heartaches of its popular cast. The ninth season focuses on fans' favorite characters, including Brooke (Sophia Bush, who also deftly directed the season finale) and husband Julian (Austin Nichols), now parents to twin babies. One of the series' most heart-wrenching storylines involves a sleep-deprived Julian unwittingly putting one of his sons in harm's way--and his inability to forgive himself. Also stellar are Bethany Joy Lenz (who is growing into a lovely young woman, channeling Diane Lane in looks and mannerisms) as Haley and James Lafferty as her husband, Nathan. One of this season's storylines involves a ghost from Nathan's past resurfacing--and a dangerous twist that Nathan stumbles into on what should have been a routine business trip. (Small gripe about this thread: Why do generic TV bad guys have those vague Eastern European accents?) Chad Michael Murray reappears as Nathan's brother, Lucas, during this emotional time. Millie (Lisa Goldstein) and Mouth (Lee Norris) have navigated love and TV success, and Quinn (Shantel VanSanten) and Clay (Robert Buckley) face Clay's unnerving medical condition, and also find what it means to be, and make, a family. Fans of One Tree Hill will love the warm-hearted conclusion to the series, in which virtually all the characters are set onto paths that should serve them well into the future. The boxed set includes lots of extras, including a salute to One Tree Hill fans, a panel discussion with the cast, a featurette on the whole series, and a commentary on the finale. It's a fitting sendoff for one of TV's most beloved series. --A.T. Hurley

Ending the most popular film epic in history, Star Wars: Episode III, Revenge of the Sith is an exciting, uneven, but ultimately satisfying journey. Picking up the action from Episode II, Attack of the Clones as well as the animated Clone Wars series, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and his apprentice, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), pursue General Grievous into space after the droid kidnapped Supreme Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid). The Star Wars Family Tree (click for larger image) It's just the latest maneuver in the ongoing Clone Wars between the Republic and the Separatist forces led by former Jedi turned Sith Lord Count Dooku (Christopher Lee). On another front, Master Yoda (voiced by Frank Oz) leads the Republic's clone troops against a droid attack on the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk. All this is in the first half of Episode III, which feels a lot like Episodes I and II. That means spectacular scenery, dazzling dogfights in space, a new fearsome villain (the CGI-created Grievous can't match up to either Darth Maul or the original Darth Vader, though), lightsaber duels, groan-worthy romantic dialogue, goofy humor (but at least it's left to the droids instead of Jar-Jar Binks), and hordes of faceless clone troopers fighting hordes of faceless battle droids. But then it all changes. Star Wars Time Line (click for larger image) After setting up characters and situations for the first two and a half movies, Episode III finally comes to life. The Sith Lord in hiding unleashes his long-simmering plot to take over the Republic, and an integral part of that plan is to turn Anakin away from the Jedi and toward the Dark Side of the Force. Unless you've been living under a rock the last 10 years, you know that Anakin will transform into the dreaded Darth Vader and face an ultimate showdown with his mentor, but that doesn't matter. In fact, a great part of the fun is knowing where things will wind up but finding out how they'll get there. The end of this prequel trilogy also should inspire fans to want to see the original movies again, but this time not out of frustration at the new ones. Rather, because Episode III is a beginning as well as an end, it will trigger fond memories as it ties up threads to the originals in tidy little ways. But best of all, it seems like for the first time we actually care about what happens and who it happens to. Episode III is easily the best of the new trilogy--OK, so that's not saying much, but it might even jockey for third place among the six Star Wars films. It's also the first one to be rated PG-13 for the intense battles and darker plot.
