Is a mousepad or anything of that nature needed for the wirelessApple Mighty Mouse?

I'm getting a MacBook next week and a wireless Mighty Mouse to go with it (because I don't like the touchpads on the MacBooks), and I'm just wondering if there's anything I need to go with it...

we have non wireless ones at school and they do not have mouse pads and they work fine but they will get a bit dirty on the underside. also use a smooth surface
