Miss Utley, one of the world's most intelligent beauty queens, placed fifth in the global competition. In Peru, Utley was one of the two finalists from North America.

California - Golden State

The state of California is home to a number of world-famous beautiful girls, among them Lucie Arnaz, Tyra Banks, Christie Brinkley, and Linda Gray, but Miss California did not even make the semi-finals in 1952 and 1956. In the late 50s and 60s, it won two American awards. In the mid-70s, Summer Robin Bartholomew, Miss California earned the national title. During Miss Universe 1975, she and Colombia's Lucia Echeverry were jointly award the Miss Photogenic title. In addition to the Photogenic Prize, Miss USA 1975, 23-year-old, made the top five in San Salvador,El Salvador.

District of Columbia - American Rose

DC -- the smallest territory in America - has won more Miss USA awards than Florida, Maryland, Arizona and New Mexico. In 1964, Bobbie Johnson became Miss United States and then competed in the Miss Universe contest in Florida, where she made the top 15. In the early 2000s, Shauntay Hinton won the national title in Gary (Indiana), but she did not make even the semi-finals in the Miss Universe competition in San Juan de Puerto Rico.

Hawaii -Aloha State

Between 1962 and 1997, Hawaiian representatives picked up a total of four Miss U.S. titles: 1962 (Macel Wilson), 1972 (Tanya Wilson), 1978 (Judy Anderson) and 1997 (Brook Mahealani Lee).

Iowa - Hawkeye State

Shandi Finnessey placed first in the global event in Quito, Ecuador. Before that event, she had been crowned Miss U. S. Universe in Los Angeles, CA.

New York - Empire State

In the late 70s, New York's contestant Mary Therese Friel earned the national beauty pageant, but in May 1981,New York, Miss Universe City 1981, could not compete in the Miss USA Universe in Biloxi, MS. Miss New York, Deborah Fountain, had been disqualified in the Miss United States Pageant. Why? She had padded her swimsuit top in the preliminaries. It was one of the most embarrassing episodes of the Miss New York Pageant. For the first time, a Miss Universe City did not take part in the national beauty pageant.

North Carolina - Old North State

NC has won two titles in Miss USA history: 2005 (Chelsea Cooley) & 2009 (Kristen Dalton).

Pennsylvania - Keystone State

On May 22, 1971, Pennsylvania's delegate Michelle MacDonald, a blonde girl, earned the American prize in Miami Beach, FL. Meanwhile, Miss Texas, Benda Lyn Box, was first runner-up and Miss Arizona, Susan Elizabeth Pottenger, finished third. Miss Missouri, Nancy Rebecca Rich, and Miss Kentucky, Patricia Barnstable, also were finalists. MacDonald, a native of Buttler, was one of the 15 semi-finalists in the MU contest.

South Carolina -Palmetto State

South Carolina has produced many top beauty queens: In 1954,Miriam Stevenson was crowned MU in Long Beach, California, and then, 26 years later, Shawn Weatherly, who studied at South Carolina State University, became the fifth American citizen to win the universal award in Seoul, South Korea. Miss South Carolina 1980, a blue-eyed girl, qualified to compete for the Miss Universe title by defeating Miss Arizona, Jineane Ford, in the Miss United States finals.

Utah -Beehive State

Linda Bement, former Miss Utah, made unexpected international headlines in 1960 when she won the universal title. In addition to this, Utah has won two Miss USA trophies.

Virginia - Old Dominion

In the late 60s and early 70s, Virginia won the Miss U.S. Universe title two years in succession. Miss USA 1970, Deborah Shelton, was runner-up to Miss Universe in Miami, FL.

Movie Review - The Weather Man(2005) starring Nicolas Cage

The Weather Man is a 2005 dramatic film with dark humorous moments, directed by Gore Verbinski. Written by Steve Conrad, it stars Nicolas Cage, Michael Caine and Hope Davis and tells the story of a weatherman on a Chicago news program, who is a failure outside his career.

A successful weatherman at a Chicago news program, David Spritz is finely paid but realizes his work needs little more than talking and pointing. He thinks most people like him only because he's on TV. For a few reason, public occasionally throw fast food at him as they drive by. Just separated, his wife, Noreen, has custody of their two children. Dave is openly hostile to her new boyfriend, Russ.

Dave's 12-year-old daughter, Shelly, is an obese smoker, bullied by her classmates. Dave caters to his daughter's concern in activities even though she immediately drops them; archery for example. Dave's 15-year-old son, Mike, is befriended by his counselor, Don, an too liberal single man whose concern in Mike is upsetting.
Dave is inhibited by his extremely booming father, Robert Spritzel, a Pulitzer Prize-winning writer. Robert is upset with Dave's apparent incapability to grow up and deal with his children, while Dave is apprehensive to convert himself in his father's eyes. Robert is diagnosed with lymphoma and although given only a few months to live, he remains dignified.

Dave pursues a weatherman position with the national "Hello America" show. The work would nearly quadruple his salary, but means relocating to New York City. He sees this work as a option to prove himself to his father and probably reunite with his wife.Dave attempts to reconnect with Noreen by attending group therapy. He stupidly ruins the effort by ditching Noreen's faith and initiates a heated argument.

As he becomes more and more scared, Dave takes up archery, finding the pursuit a means to build his concentration and calm down his nerves."Hello America" invites Dave to New York. He brings Shelly so he can talk to her. He skirts the subject by buying her a wardrobe of dresses and skirts. Dave's father also travels to NY to see a specialist. Dave learns that, his son assaulted his therapist. Robert claims that the therapist wanted to carry out oral sex on Mike. Depressed over this and his father's probable demise, Dave stays up all night drinking, despite the "Hello America" interview the next morning. Unexpectedly, all goes nicely and he impresses his interviewers.

Dave returns to Chicago to find Noreen's boyfriend dealing with the Mike situation. Out of the blue, Dave attacks Russ with his gloves in front of Noreen and Robert, who are surprised. Dave later confronts the counselor at his home and attacks him in a angry mood. Dave is offered the "Hello America" work. He is reluctant because it means being far from Noreen and the kids.
The family holds a living funeral for Robert. Dave asks Noreen to reunite and move to New York but she has determined to tie knot with Russ. To soothe his worry, he practices archery on the lawn. When Russ comes out, Dave draws the arrow on him and holds it, preparing to shoot. Russ, panic-stricken, goes back inside.When Dave begins his formal speech to his father the power goes out. He breaks down in tears telling his father that he was offered the work, but that his wife will get married with Russ. Robert consoles him by saying that not everything in life goes as we'd like, and that he is satisfied with his son for being able to land the "Hello America" position and also for Dave's defense of his son.

Robert accepted to reading Dave's, admittedly poor, effort at a novel. Robert tells that it takes years to be a good novelist and Dave spent all those years learning to be a good weatherman and that's an achievement, mainly highlighting his son's victory in landing such a well-paid position. Eventually, Robert has a real funeral and at that time, Mike reveals to his father the aspirations to be a cameraman for Monday Night Football, which makes Dave  proud of him. Dave accepts the work. Dave's former resentment for his fans, an indication of his own low self-respect, has gone now that he has gained his father's support and learned to accept his life.

Released on October 28, 2005, the feature film was a box office bomb, with a total gross of $19,039,770 worldwide. The Weather Man received mixed reviews, gaining an overall score of 57% on Rotten Tomatoes. It is similar to The Family Man (2000, Brett Ratner).
