Les Miserables Original London Cast
List Price: $24.98

This recording captures the 1985 London cast that transformed an obscure French musical based on Victor Hugo's gargantuan novel of pre-Revolutionary France into a worldwide phenomenon throughout the late-'80s and '90s and became one of the best examples of the era's trend of blockbuster musical spectacles. Yes, Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schoenberg's score tends to recycle its themes, but the beautiful melodies and stirring anthems rarely fail to captivate and touch its audience. Colm Wilkinson is the heroic Valjean, Patti LuPone is the tragic Fantine, Michael Ball is the love-struck Marius, and Frances Ruffelle is the despondent Eponine, with Roger Allam (Javert), Alun Armstrong and Sue Jane Tanner (the Thénardiers), Rebecca Caine (older Cosette), and David Burt (Enjolras) filling out the excellent cast. Fans will want to take note that this recording includes some material that was revised when the show crossed the pond to Broadway--"Little People" was lost altogether, while the "Love Montage" was significantly rewritten. Les Misérables sounds especially vivid in its 1998 remastering, and a synopsis and full lyrics are included. --David Horiuchi

Invincible

For such a boldly titled and apparently driven attempt to reinstate Michael Jackson at the center of the pop world, Invincible is a listless thing. Split between scratchy funk workouts and midtempo ballads that might have appeared as Bad B-sides, the album plays on and on while never seriously promoting dancing or romancing. Its handful of weird moments--the resurrection-by-tape of Biggie Smalls on the bridge of the title track, for instance--are hardly large-scale bizarre like the first disc of HIStory. The title track turns out to be hardly the rampant egofest you'd imagine; instead, its subject is a female whom Jackson cheers on. Likewise, the most ear-catching moments of the "comeback" single "You Rock My World" come with Chris Tucker's jivey introduction. Despite a debt to "Payback"-era James Brown, "Rock" floats away like steam midway through. It's almost a relief when the old self-regard turns up: on the growling "Privacy," Jackson rants about muckrakers "stalking" him in search of "the stories you need to bury me," all this long after foundering divas and troubled boy-group members have replaced him on tabloid covers. The man may occasionally break away from the mirror but seems unsure where else to find inspiration. --Rickey Wright

Monteverdi: Vespro Della Beata Vergine

John Eliot Gardiner's 1974 recording of Monteverdi's extraordinary Vespers of 1610 was a landmark, helping establish the modern reputations of both music and conductor. In 1989, to celebrate the silver anniversary of his Monteverdi Choir (named in honor of this work), he recorded the cycle again--this time live in the Basilica of San Marco in Venice. He made use of resources he didn't have 15 years earlier, like period instruments and, for soloists, a mix of early-music specialists (Ann Monoyios and Michael Chance) and opera singers (the young Bryn Terfel). As a bonus, he recorded both the standard version of the Magnificat for voices and instruments and Monteverdi's published alternative setting for six voices and organ. Gardiner gives a vigorous, theatrical, yet very detailed account of this music, caressing some phrases, thundering out others, using lots of carefully judged crescendos and decrescendos. On its terms, it works, thanks largely to the wondrous Monteverdi Choir, which can do anything asked of it. But there seems little of the sacred in the performance and almost nothing of the spontaneous or natural--the carefully calibrated effects can come across as overdetermined. In his booklet essay, Gardiner makes quite a point of his fidelity to the published score, yet he liberally adds instruments to double the voices, and he takes an odd liberty with the much-loved duet-trio "Duo seraphim": at the close of each half of the motet, at the words "plena est omnis terra," he has the tenors of his chorus take over from his soloists. If you're uncomfortable with that sort of thing, go for Andrew Parrott's marvelous one-singer-per-part performance or (for those who want a full chorus) for the version of William Christie or that of René Jacobs; if these additions don't faze you and you want a high-powered, adrenaline-rush performance, you'll find it here. --Matthew Westphal

Spooky Buddies (Two-Disc Blu-ray / DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging)
List Price: $39.99
Sale Price: $7.89

The Buddies puppies are back for another adventure, and this time the talking bundles of golden fur find themselves right in the middle of a Halloween scare that started way back in 1937. Fernfield legend tells of an evil warlock, Warwick, who entered into a pact with the menacing Halloween Hound to open a portal between realities and allow the spirits of the netherworld to escape and take over the world. Time ran out before the Halloween Hound could steal the souls of five dogs of the same blood in order to open the portal. But conditions are just right in the present for Warwick the Warlock and the Halloween Hound to return and complete their mission. The Buddies stumble into the middle of Warwick's plan and suddenly find themselves the town's only hope, along with a puppy ghost from the past named Pip, their new clairvoyant friend Zelda, and a young boy grown old. Young audiences find these cute talking puppies quite appealing, but the whole premise of ghosts and dark spirits from the underworld is potentially quite frightening to some. Additionally, some viewers may be surprised by the film's portrayal of the church as a safe sanctuary from dark spirits and the Bible as a powerful weapon to be brandished in the face of evil. While this fifth Buddies movie is just as cute as and no less believable than the previous films, the writers have chosen to treat the puppies more as one cohesive group rather than as individuals with distinct personalities, and the plot is certainly much scarier than in earlier films. What hasn't changed is the message that teamwork and confidence triumphs over evil. Bonus features include a tour of Rosebud's house, a "Monster Mash" music video featuring the cast of Shake It Up, and a sneak peak of Treasure Buddies. (Ages 6 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

Television director-producer Scott Winant (thirtysomething) made his feature debut with this predictable romantic-comedy about two people destined to meet and fall in love--though it takes 20 years for their lives to intersect. A good idea done before, the film doesn't have anything new to offer, and the excessive sweetness of Winant's approach can't mask the lack of originality. Still, it boasts a very attractive cast, and it's fun watching these actors work together. --Tom Keogh

Living in a Foreign Language: A Memoir of Food, Wine, and Love in Italy
List Price: $11.00

The actor Michael Tucker and his wife, the actress Jill Eikenberry, having sent their last child off to college, were vacationing in Italy when they happened upon a small cottage nestled in the Umbrian countryside. The three-hundred-and-fifty-year-old Rustico sat perched on a hill in the verdant Spoleto valley amid an olive grove and fruit trees of every kind. For the Tuckers, it was literally love at first sight, and the couple purchased the house without testing the water pressure or checking for signs of termites. Shedding the vestiges of their American life, Michael and Jill endeavored to learn the language, understand the nuances of Italian culture, and build a home in this new chapter of their lives. Both a celebration of a good marriage and a careful study of the nature of home, Living in a Foreign Language is a gorgeous, organic travelogue written with an epicureanâs delight in detail and a gourmandâs appreciation for all things fine.

Here are some more information for Michael Tucker:

In this article you are going to learn how to use the method of hitting your opponent in the timing of a single instant, as made famous by Miyamoto Musashi. The reason you need to know how to attack using the Timing of One is that it is a vital skill to have whenever you are faced with any sort of conflict in any arena of life. There are three steps I am going to teach you here: The first step is to understand when to use it, the second is to perform the physical details correctly, and the final step is to drill yourself in its use until you no longer have to actively think about its use because it becomes a conditioned reflex. If you follow these three steps you will learn and master this technique very quickly.
Are you ready? Here are the three steps:
Step One: In order to use this or any other tactic, you must first identify the optimum instant of time in which it will be most effective. In the case of the Timing of One, it can be used at any time there is a gap in the opponent's defense. However, the best time to utilize it, and the timing that a beginner should focus on training for the first four to six months, is when the opponent experiences a common psychological weakness: The inability to make a quick decision on what he or she should do. They don't recognize the pattern of action taking place around them and are so focused on trying to figure it out and calculate how they should react that they completely drop their defense. You should begin your training by mastering the ability to instantly spot this weakness in others.
Step Two: It may seem obvious but a common challenge many people have when mastering this technique is to misjudge the distance. Because the gap caused by this uncertainty on the opponent's behalf is very short, you must already be within range of attacking him for this tactic to be effective. If using a sword, this means that you are holding it with the tip of your sword pointed at his eye, or held above your head, and you are in such a position that a single step forward will allow you to reach him with your thrust or downward cut. In boxing, it means he is within range of your jab, and in the legal world it means he is within your range of enforcement for the laws you want to use against him. In any case, whatever your arena and whatever your weapon, you must use the Direct Approach along with this tactic. Keep it very simple, take a single step forward, and without any preparatory positional movements, make your attack.
Step Three: The instant when the opponent has not yet made up his mind whether to run from you, defend against your attacks, or attack himself is a very short time. Therefore you must learn to notice the opening immediately and the physical action of your attack should be swift and without any warning whatsoever. Anything that gives the opponent time is wasteful and may allow him to recover and do something useful. So, master the ability to instantly spot the opening and attack it on a single beat of the drum. Repetitive drilling exercises of at least one-hundred utilizations of both aspects every single day for 3 months will not only make it nigh impossible for anyone to defend against you, but it will also bring the final key of success to you naturally: You won't think or plan your attack, and when the opening presents itself, the attack will just flow out of you. Your mind won't get stuck or hung-up on it, and is free to move on to calculating your next action. This speed of thought is invaluable in combat.

Maximizing your Advertising Budget
You are selling a great product or set of products. Maybe you offer a great service online that if people knew about it, you know they would like it.
Ok so step one for you is complete, and that is finding your niche as to what your business is all about. Step 2 is getting the word out there, and to do so in a cost effective manner.
Welcome to the Internet. The place where anything is possible and the medium that levels the playing field, or so you would think, to the point where the super stars such as Walmart look no bigger online then you.
Obviously being a startup business and on a tight budget you want to be able to reach as many people in your target market as possible, and at the least amount of cost.
So how about getting your advetising in front of 112 million people and more? How about exposing what it is you sell and offer to nearly a billion people world wide and do so for just pennies?
Sounds crazy and unrealistic right? Well it is not. With the formation of Web 2.0, which is really just a fancy tech term describing the way the Internet has evolved into a medium where people connect, the estimated, according to Technorati, 112 million bloggers may be the best way to go these days.
There are literally thousands of blog hosting companies out there. These companies have customers who do nothing more than post their reviews and opinions on a subject, in what they call their Blogs.
Our company has written dozens of articles on blogging to educate, not only our customers, but the Internet community in general. If you would like to learn more about blogging, check out our articles on our website. For now, in this multi-part series, we are going to concentrate on how to use bloggers as your means of advertising.
Bloggers are always looking for ways to fill up that "white" space they have on their blogs. A great way to do that is to place some type of advertising there. It fills a need they are looking for. It also allows them to make some extra money, and you as the advertiser, get to put your product or service in front of literally millions, for pennies.
There are two ways you can go about this. You can contact every blog related to what you are offering and ask them to advertise. With 112 million blogs to choose from, you should start immediately right? Well option two is signing on with a company whose main focus is handling advertising on Blogs. These companies, such as ours, focus in on having bloggers post small snippets of code on their blogs that will display a series of different advertisements that their blog readers can look further into by clicking on the link.
Your advertisement will appear on blog websites and when a reader clicks on your ad, will be taken to further information on what you are offering. What you need to look for in an ad program such as this is hidden costs.
You want to stay away from programs that charge you a fee each time someone clicks your ad. When you participate in, what is called, a pay per click program, that then leads into bidding for the ad space. Basically, whoever is willing to pay more, will appear more often. That concept basically defeates the entire purpose of the level playing field, now doesn`t it?
We will continue this discussion in part two of our article segments on how to maximize your advertising spending with minimal output and at the same time reach your target market.

Has Chris Tucker made any comments on the death of Michael Jackson?
It seems that just about everyone that you would expect to have made a comment about M.J. and his death has done so except Chris Tucker; has anyone heard any comments from Chris Tucker on M.J's death?
that's exactly what I was thinking about.
He probably doesn't want to and keeps it to himself as a good friend. He's probably as shocked as anyone would. I don't want to blame him for not saying anything. Only him and MJ will ever know what he's thinking about it.
