How do you get past the New Orleans Level on the new X Men Origins: Wolverine game for PS2?

I am stuck on the New Orleans level of X Men Origins for the PS2.
I do what it says and press square to kick the control panel, but nothing happens. There are some other controls just around the corner that Wolverine looks at and talks about as he walks past them, but I can't figure out how to use them!
