Despite a wave of criticism asserting that Kings of Leon's fourth full-length is "too commercial," Only by the Night may be the closest thing to a pitch-perfect album to drop in 2008. Granted, Tennessee's band of brothers (and one first cousin) takes a turn for the heavily polished here, but what the album lacks in rough-edged raunch, it more than makes up for in earnestness and--yes--stunning beauty. From the opening notes of "Closer" to the listing balladry of "Cold Desert," Only by the Night hardly misses a beat. Highlights abound, particularly in the trading off of melodic lines between instruments, and in this regard, bassist Jared Followill is the album's quiet MVP. Above these gorgeous instrumentals, singer Caleb emotes with a dramatic grit that never loses its command. A model of melodic rock composition, arranged and produced with a warm, inviting veneer, and performed with aching sincerity, these 11 tracks coalesce into a sanguine whole that eclipses the band's much-discussed rock posturing and yields more with every play. A good band's great album, Only by the Night (finally) establishes Kings of Leon as a rock act that's worthy of seriously sustained attention. --Jason Kirk

The king of all animated films reigns on Disney Blu-ray 3D—magic in a new dimension.Features include: •MPAA Rating: G•Format: Blu-Ray
Not an ideal choice for younger kids, this hip and violent animated feature from Disney was nevertheless a huge smash in theaters and on video, and it continues to enjoy life in an acclaimed Broadway production. The story finds a lion cub, son of a king, sent into exile after his father is sabotaged by a rivalrous uncle. The little hero finds his way into the "circle of life" with some new friends and eventually comes back to reclaim his proper place. Characters are very strong, vocal performances by the likes of Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Whoopi Goldberg are terrific, the jokes are aimed as much (if not more) at adults than kids, the animation is sometimes breathtaking, and the music is more palatable than in many Disney features. But be cautious: this is too intense for the Rugrat crowd. --Tom Keogh Related Products Amazon's Disney Store More Lion King Lion King Toys Versions of The Lion King on Blu-ray and DVD The Lion King (Two-Disc Diamond Edition Blu-ray / DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging) The Lion King (Two-Disc Diamond Edition Blu-ray / DVD Combo in DVD Packaging) The Lion King (Four-Disc Diamond Edition Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy) The Lion King Trilogy (Eight-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy) Release Date October 4, 2011 October 4, 2011 October 4, 2011 October 4, 2011 Format/Disc # Blu-ray, DVD DVD, Blu-ray Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy The Lion King includes: Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy The Lion King 1 ½ includes: DVD, Blu-ray The Lion King 2 includes: DVD, Blu-ray Blu-ray 3D No No Yes Yes (The Lion King Only) Blu-ray Yes Yes Yes Yes DVD Yes Yes Yes Yes Digital Copy No No Yes Yes (The Lion King Only) Bonus Features 4 Never-Before-Seen Deleted Scenes;Deleted Song; The Morning Report: Extended scene;Never-Before-Seen Bloopers;Disney Second Screen*;Pride of The Lion King; The Lion King: A Memoir- Don Hahn; Disney Sing Along Mode; Interactive Gallery; Audio Commentary; Disney’s Virtual Vault: Classic DVD Features Powered by BD-Live* *Not Available in all territories. Set in and around a quaint French village during the late 18th century, Beauty and the Beast follows the fantastic adventures of Belle, a brightand beautiful young woman who finds escape from her ordinary life, and the advances of a boorish suitor, Gaston, by reading books. Meanwhile, off in a castle in the distance, a cruel young prince is cast under the spell of an enchantress who turns him into a tormented beast, while transforming his servants into animated household objects. In order to remove the curse, the Beast must discover a true love who will return his affection before the last petal falls from an enchanted rose. When Belle's inventor father stumbles upon the Beast's castle and is taken prisoner, Belle comes to the rescue and agrees to take her father's place. With the help of the castle's enchanted staff, she sees beneath the Beast's exterior and discovers the heart and soul of a human prince.Features include: •MPAA Rating: G•Format: Blu-Ray•Runtime: 85 minutes
The film that officially signaled Disney's animation renaissance (following The Little Mermaid) and the only animated feature to receive a Best Picture Oscar nomination, Beauty and the Beast remains the yardstick by which all other animated films should be measured. It relates the story of Belle, a bookworm with a dotty inventor for a father; when he inadvertently offends the Beast (a prince whose heart is too hard to love anyone besides himself), Belle boldly takes her father's place, imprisoned in the Beast's gloomy mansion. Naturally, Belle teaches the Beast to love. What makes this such a dazzler, besides the amazingly accomplished animation and the winning coterie of supporting characters (the Beast's mansion is overrun by quipping, dancing household items) is the array of beautiful and hilarious songs by composer Alan Menken and the late, lamented lyricist Howard Ashman. (The title song won the 1991 Best Song Oscar, and Menken's score scored a trophy as well.) The downright funniest song is "Gaston," a lout's paean to himself (including the immortal line, "I use antlers in all of my de-co-ra-ting"). "Be Our Guest" is transformed into an inspired Busby Berkeley homage. Since Ashman's passing, animated musicals haven't quite reached the same exhilarating level of wit, sophistication, and pure joy. --David Kronke --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Plus, this special Diamond Edition includes an all-new immersive game and special features that reveal the extraordinary creative process behind the making of this timeless classic and take you deeper into Bambi's world than ever before! Rated G.•Packaged in Blu-ray case
It always comes up when people are comparing their most traumatic movie experiences: "the death of Bambi's mother," a recollection that can bring a shudder to even the most jaded filmgoer. That primal separation (which is no less stunning for happening off-screen) is the centerpiece of Bambi, Walt Disney's 1942 animated classic, but it is by no means the only bold stroke in the film. In its swift but somehow leisurely 69 minutes, Bambi covers a year in the life of a young deer. But in a bigger way, it measures the life cycle itself, from birth to adulthood, from childhood's freedom to grown-up responsibility. All of this is rendered in cheeky, fleet-footed style--the movie doesn't lecture, or make you feel you're being fed something that's good for you. The animation is miraculous, a lush forest in which nature is a constantly unfolding miracle (even in a spectacular fire, or those dark moments when "man was in the forest"). There are probably easier animals to draw than a young deer, and the Disney animators set themselves a challenge with Bambi's wobbly glide across an ice-covered lake, his spindly legs akimbo; but the sequence is effortless and charming. If Bambi himself is just a bit dull--such is the fate of an Everydeer--his rabbit sidekick Thumper and a skunk named Flower more than make up for it. Many of the early Disney features have their share of lyrical moments and universal truths, but Bambi is so simple, so pure, it's almost transparent. You might borrow a phrase from Thumper and say it's downright twitterpated. --Robert Horton

A film based on the incredibly popular Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich, One for the Money reveals an unexpectedly versatile Katherine Heigl. This model-turned-actress is best known for her role as Dr. Izzie Stevens on Grey's Anatomy and for starring in various lighthearted romantic comedies, but here Heigl takes on the meaty role of Plum, a laid-off lingerie buyer who turns bondswoman in a desperate attempt to pay the rent and put food on the table. Heigl is surprisingly believable as a blue-collar working girl who thinks fast on her feet and is not afraid to throw herself into the middle of even the most dangerous situation--especially if it means getting what she wants. Of course, Stephanie's impulsiveness manages to get her into all sorts of awkward and potentially life-threatening situations. Throw in her desire for payback against an old boyfriend, a sleazy cousin, a gang of ruthless criminals, a couple of most unexpected allies, and a quirky family who can think of little more than setting her up with a good husband, and you've got an enticing blend of drama, action, and comedy. Debbie Reynolds is quite funny as Grandma Mazur, Daniel Sunjata makes a great Ranger, and there's definitely a nice chemistry between Heigl and Jason O'Mara. Bonus features include an 11-minute making-of featurette, a 10-minute look at some real-life "bond girls," a gag reel, and one deleted scene. --Tami Horiuchi

With Daniel Sunjata, John Leguizamo, Sherri Shepherd, and Debbie Reynolds. 91 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles: English, Spanish; featurettes; deleted scene; gag reel; theatrical trailer.

Aladdin a street urchin accidentally meets princess jasmine who is in the city undercover. They love each other but she can only marry a prince. Studio: Buena Vista Home Video Release Date: 12/18/2007 Starring: Scott Weinger Linda Larkin Run time: 90 minutes Rating: G
Disney's 1992 animated feature is a triumph of wit and skill. The high-tech artwork and graphics look great, the characters are strong, the familiar story is nicely augmented with an interesting villain (Jafar, voiced by Jonathan Freeman), and there's an incredible hook atop the whole thing: Robin Williams's frantically hilarious vocal performance as Aladdin's genie. Even if one isn't particularly moved by the love story between the title character (Scott Weinger) and his girlfriend Jasmine (Linda Larkin), you can easily get lost in Williams's improvisational energy and the equally entertaining performances of Freeman and Gilbert Gottfried (as Jafar's parrot). --Tom Keogh

Here are some more information for Lion King:

The time has come for you to pick another costume for that time of the year. Yes, you guessed it right, its Halloween once again. Disney characters have always been part of Halloween costumes, and most of it has been made up of the different Disney princesses.
Never has been there a Halloween party that didn't have a Disney princess around. Belle, Aurora, Snow White, Cinderella, and Jasmine has always been popular choices. However, these are beginning to become the clichés of Halloween costumes. Going as something different would be like a breath of fresh air. It would be interesting, turn heads, and definitely make you stand out. So, why don't you go as a Disney cat This Year? Which cat? The bravest. The mightiest creature in the jungle. This year's cat Halloween costume will be a roar!
A Lion King themed Halloween party would probably the first of its kind. Imagine how colorful it could actually be! The traditional cat is somewhat overused in terms of Halloween, and having wilder members of the cat family would probably be exciting and interesting.
Everybody can come in lion suit costumes that can be purchased in costume shops in your area, or online. Authentic Disney costumes are also available online, and purchasing it would be no fuss at all. Within days, it can be delivered right at your door step, and you could wear it on Halloween. If going treat or tricking, instead of a pumpkin head for the loot bag, have some brown felt paper bag with faux fur. This would go very well with the lion suit.
If hosting a Lion King themed party, decorations could simply include African-Safari inspired objects, and signs such as "Pride Rock", "Hyena's Lair", and so on, can be placed in the different areas of the party venue, so as to bring to life the Lion King. If you were to come as a cat this Halloween, might as well come as the mightiest of the clan. This cat Halloween costume may not be easy to make on your own, but costumes of this sort can be purchased at reasonable, some even cheap, prices.
This Disney hit during the 90's was one of the best they have ever made, and its soundtrack ruled the airwaves for quite some time too. If you're hosting the party, then the music for the evening isn't a dilemma any longer. For the food, try serving those Halloween inspired goodies in Safari themed serving platters, and also use Safari themed paper plates, plastic cups, and serving spoons (if ever).
There's a lot you can do with cat Halloween costumes, and it doesn't have to be limited to the traditional sexy cat, or the traditional cat woman costume. You can always go for something less conventional and make an impression. After all, Halloween comes only once a year - it pays to be remembered. Why be like the others if you can stand out? It's all about style and creativity, and surely you have it!

The Lion King Tickets - See A True Theater Classic Live
The Lion King tickets have been in-demand in a big way for nearly 10 years, and this emerging all-time classic has captured the hearts of millions of fans all over the world. The original Disney film classic won awards for several reasons, and this led to the on-stage production being produced and introduced to discerning thespians. The stage show has been just as successful, and a look at the story will show why the story is not only timeless, but also appropriate for the whole family.
The Story
The Lion King is set on the plains of Africa, and the main character is Simba, a young lion cub who is someday going to take over the throne for his father, Mufasa. Simba is a happy, curious cub who's a bit precocious by nature, and sometimes his curiosity gets the better of him.
Simba also has a rival in the plot in the form of his extremely jealous brother, Scar. Scar wants nothing more than to be the Lion King himself, and he plots to usurp the throne. Scar pursues this plan by arranging a stampede that tragically kills Mufasa, and then Scar deviously convinces Scar that their father's death was Simba's fault.
Simba is crestfallen by this "realization," and decides to run away from home. This development is especially heartbreaking because Simba leaves behind two characters who were very close to him in his mother, Sarabi and his best friend, Nala.
Simba eventually encounters a warthog named Pumbaa and a meerkat named Timon, and he spends the rest of his childhood with them. Simba eventually grows older and stronger, and one day, his long-lost friend Nala. Nala tells Simba that Scar has succeeded in his plot and has become the Lion King. Nala further convinces Simba that he needs to return to his roots and challenge Scar for the throne. We'd tell you how the story is resolved, but you'd be much better-served by securing The Lion King tickets for yourself to see this classic in-person.
Production History
The original stage production opened in Minneapolis in 1997, and after early and tremendous success, the show moved to Broadway in October of that same year. The play has been running continuously there ever since. The Lion King has also enjoyed long-standing runs in London, Toronto and Sydney.
Overall, the musical has won six Tony Awards, and The Lion King tickets continue to be an enormous draw in theaters all over the world.

In what ways is The Lion King a Marxist critique?
I'm doing a study of Marxist critique and would like to delve into whether or not any of the ideology is present in Disney films, the Lion king in particular. So far I've analyzed the alienation effect evident with the animals of the Plaguelands in contrast to those of the Pridelands. Was wondering if anyone could come up with some more. Thanks in advance for any answers
A "Marxist critique".
Uh wow. Kinda speechless.
