When Jack Butler (Michael Keaton) loses his job at an auto factory, he expects to quickly find another. But instead, his wife Caroline (Teri Garr) starts working for an ad agency and Jack ends up taking care of the house and kids. He soon runs afoul of shopping etiquette, a voracious vacuum cleaner, and he can't even drop his kids off at school properly. He starts losing his pride and letting himself go. He stops shaving, drinks at all hours, and watches soap operas. And not only does a predatory divorcée (Ann Jillian) have her eye on him, Caroline's new boss (Martin Mull) has more than business on his mind. Will their marriage survive? What makes Mr. Mom work isn't its role-reversal premise, but its clever off-the-main-plot scenes like the obstacle course at the company picnic, where a footrace with swim fins is set to a variation on the theme to Chariots of Fire; a poker game using discount coupons for money; or a traumatic, soap-opera-influenced dream Jack has when he realizes his life is going down the toilet. This is the first starring role for Michael Keaton, who went on to star in Beetlejuice and Batman; he makes the most of both its comic and sentimental side. The script, incidentally, is written by John Hughes, who later went on to write and direct The Breakfast Club and Home Alone. --Bret Fetzer

Gilmore Girls: The Complete Seventh Season

All good things must end, but not all good things end well. Gilmore Girls is one of the most original and entertaining television programs ever to grace the CW. Lorelai and Rory Gilmore (Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel) star as the quick-witted and heavily caffeinated mother-daughter duo at the heart of this quirky drama. Normally smarter than the average show, the seventh season represents a slump in an otherwise brilliant run. The seventh season is the first without series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, and her absence is evident. Smart characters make dumb decisions and dumb characters spend too much time on screen. The normally fluid plot slumbers along as Rory's father Christopher returns as Lorelai's love interest, Rory gets even more serious with Logan, while Luke and Lorelai try to repair their damaged relationship. But it's not all bleak. Highpoints of the season include the birth of Lane's twins, plus the long-awaited cameo by Christiane Amanpour, which sends Rory into a tizzy: "I can't meet Christiane Amanpour in my pajamas!" The counterbalance of the quirky Stars Hollowians, which is half the fun of Gilmore Girls in previous seasons, is gone or, worse, awkwardly shoehorned in. Still, for fans of the series the final season is a must-own, if only to find out what happens to the characters they loved and laughed with for so many years. --Megan Chaffee

NBC's Parenthood encompasses such a sprawling cast that the action can get a little hectic at times, but the show always delivers in the more dramatic moments. In the second season, the Bravermans are all jockeying for position. Patriarch Zeek (Craig T. Nelson) has come to an understanding with his wife, Camille (Bonnie Bedelia), but still tries to control situations with his kids when cooperation would make things easier. His oldest son, Adam (Peter Krause), on the other hand, gives up some of his turf when he offers his sister, Sarah (Lauren Graham), a job at his shoe-manufacturing firm, where she enters into a relationship with his boss, Gordon (guest star William Baldwin). Adam's 16-year-old daughter, Haddie (Sarah Ramos), meanwhile, struggles to assert her independence, but her father and mother, Kristina (Monica Potter), make it difficult when it comes to a school election and a potential love interest (Michael B. Jordan, from creator Jason Katims's Friday Night Lights). Her younger brother, Max (Max Burkholder), who has Asperger's syndrome, also contributes to their rapidly escalating stress levels. As for the other siblings: Julia (Erika Christensen) considers having a second child with Joel (Sam Jaeger, who really shines this season), while Crosby (Dax Shepard) decides to make things official with Jasmine (Joy Bryant), but an unexpected development brings out the judgmental side of the clan. It might not seem fair to single out one cast member, but Graham continues to do some of the best work, largely because her character, a single mother, has the most to lose. Other second-season guests include Minka Kelly as Max's tutor and John Corbett as Sarah's unreliable ex-husband, who returns to reconnect with their kids (Miles Heizer and Mae Whitman). Extra features include deleted scenes and four commentary tracks. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Three ghostly tales by J.R. Rain...Two novels and two short stories, including:THE BODY DEPARTEDTwo years ago, a man broke into James Blakely's apartment and shot him in his sleep. Twelve times, killing him instantly. Dead and confused, James discovers he has a choice: he can move on into the afterlife, or he can stay behind. Unfortunately, since James has done some very bad things, moving on into the afterlife can only mean one thing: the fires of Hell. Or so he thinks. Forgoing eternal damnation, James instead chooses to haunt his old apartment building. Now James's days are mostly spent visiting his daughter and ex-wife, welcoming new neighbors, and talking to those who can see the dead. It's a simple, peaceful life, but with each passing day, James discovers something more and more alarming: memories of his former lifeâand even his own identityâbegin slipping away. Faced with the prospect that he is rapidly deteriorating into a state of nothingness, James sets out to save his eternal soul. With the help of his daughter and a world-class medium, his journey to peace and forgiveness will not be an easy one, especially for a ghost who still wishes to be a fatherâand who fears he is destined for a fiery Hell as punishment for sins he cannot remember. Now, as James begins to uncover the devastating secret that connects his soul to earth, he will discover that even in death life has a few surprises.GHOST COLLEGEFirst in a new series featuring paranormal investigators Ellen and Monty Drew. Ellen claims to possess a sixth sense but Monty, a former P.I., only believes what he can see. She views their work as a sacred mission while Monty just wants a happy wife and a paycheck. Then the Drews are summoned to a Southern California bible college after workers report hearing mysterious voices at night. When they encounter the unhappy ghost of a young girl, Monty's skepticism is shaken, but he resolves to help his wife free the trapped spirit. Their search uncovers the Latin phrase "Non omnis moriar"-not all of me shall die-and they learn more about the site's history as a Catholic school destroyed by an earthquake. But a mysterious presence has plans of its own for the young ghost, and Monty and Ellen must go head to head with a Dark Master that's had more than a century of practice in demonic deeds. Now Monty must leave his body to do battle with the Dark Master, and he's not sure Ellen will be able to bring him back in one piece. He's not even sure what's happening is real. All he knows is that all hell is breaking loose and he's taking a crash course where an "F" means eternal damnation.(Includes an introduction, a special holiday ghost story, and a clickable table of contents.)**Acclaim for the Novels of J.R. A powerful story of a teenager's struggle with anorexia, told in a straight forward and powerful way, without talking down to the reader and without being overly sentimental. YOU NEVER CALLED ME PRINCESS is an honest look at what could happen when a young girl decides to lose weight at all costs. Should be mandatory reading for any parent who suspects their child might have an eating disorder. I believe the novel will show the reader that there are answers to their problems, and that they are not alone. Highly recommended. An important novel."âJ.R. Rain, author of MOON DANCE and THE BODY DEPARTED"An intriguing debut, and an excellent read. Gripping and touching, a story written from the heart. Kaitlyn, who is only semi-recovered from a serious eating disorder, is diagnosed with serious epilepsy and other health issues. The heroine comes to terms with her disease as she adjusts to her medications, backslides into her eating disorder again, explores relationships with boyfriends (age-appropriate), and handles problems with a girl bully. Her coming-of-age story of self-discovery, acceptance of her imperfect body, and a surprise twist at the end will leave readers with a smile and hope for every teenage girl to overcome debilitating ED illness and difficult family issues. I loved this book and want to recommend it to teenage girls, especially. The heroine is likable, and one to whom YA readers will relate. High moral values, with exploration into body image and excellent life lessons, with no preachiness. Five stars!"âEve Paludan, author of LETTERS FROM DAVID and TAKING BACK TARA"This is a great story of the trials and tribulations of a young girl struggling through more than just your average teenage troubles. Here are some more information for Lauren Graham:

Celebrity Poker Player: Lauren Graham
Anytime any type of poker room or casino can get a celebrity to show up and play a few rounds, it is considered to be good public relations and brings in the crowds from all around.
Some celebrity poker players are better than others, of course, but everyone loves watching their favorite TV star or movie actor laying down a low pair with glee and certainty, only to bust.
And another celebrity not only hits the movie scene but also tho the poker tables. Lauren Graham is anything but just another pretty face. She is also fierce poker player, and if you need more proof just ask all the other celebrities she took out at the Celebrity Poker Showdown. She took out Chris Masterson to win game four, and was finally taken out by Maura Tierney to end up coming in second in the championship.
Graham, along with being a terrific actress, is also an avid poker player. She successfully won game four of the Celebrity Poker Showdown, and went on to take second place in the final tournament.
Lauren discovered acting while in elementary school. She began acting in community theatre and any other production she could find. She traveled extensively with her father while growing up. She earned a Bachelor's degree in English from Barnard College in New York City.
In addition to her many guest starring and co-starring roles on prime time TV, she had three starring roles on failed sitcoms including Townies with Molly Ringwald and Jenna Elfman - before landing the lead role of Lorelai Gilmore on the CW's Gilmore Girls (2000-present), for which she is best known.
In addition, she has had many roles in theatrical movies, including several NYU student films and several major studio releases. She has appeared in the movies Bad Santa, The Pacifier and Sweet November. She appeared on Third Rock from the Sun as a grad student who caught the eye of Dick (John Lithgow).
Prior to Gilmore Girls, Graham and her co-star Scott Patterson both made appearances on the TV series Seinfeld, with Graham as a potential girlfriend for Jerry (Seinfeld) and Patterson as a prospective boyfriend for Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus).
She is set to appear in the movie Evan Almighty, playing the role of Evan's wife. As of 2006, Graham stars in the seventh season of the Gilmore Girls show. She portrayed herself in two episodes of the NBC drama Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip as the guest host of the show-within-the-show.
Lauren then moved to Texas where she earned a Master's Degree in Acting at Southern Methodist University. She then returned to New York where she worked as a cocktail waitress and aspiring actress. In 1995, she moved to Hollywood. In addition to her many guest staring and co-staring roles on prime time TV, she had three starring roles on failed sitcoms before landing the lead role of Lorelai Gilmore on the WB's "Gilmore Girls."
In addition, she has had many roles in theatrical movies, including several NYU student films and several major studio releases. Lauren Graham has never been married and now lives in West Hollywood.
Lauren Graham is so smart & beautiful and ladylike with an edge, and the fact that she won her tournament and nearly won the Celebrity Poker Championship was totally the icing on the cake.

New 'Parenthood' shines with Peter Krause and Cleveland native Monica Potter
Given NBC's recent missteps and the fate of most remakes, you might be thinking of skipping tonight's 10 p.m. premiere of "Parenthood" on WKYC Channel 3 Think again. This splendid updating of the 1989 film features Peter Krause, Cleveland native Monica Potter, Lauren Graham and Craig T. Nelson.
Thanks for visiting!
