SOUNDTRACK TIEMPOS VIOLENTOS (PULP FICTION)

Dick Dale's surf-guitar provided the memorable title theme ("Misirlou"), for Quentin Tarantino's 1994 smash, and although that sound runs throughout the soundtrack (along with bits and pieces of dialog from the movie), this is a pretty eclectic bunch of really terrific songs. I don't know how it all manages to hang together, but it does (you might say the same for the interwoven stories in the movie). Where else are you going to find Chuck Berry, Maria McKee, Al Green, The Statler Brothers, Kool & the Gang, Urge Overkill (singing a Neil Diamond ballad!), Ricky Nelson, Dusty Springfield, and the Tornadoes (among others) one album? McKee's beautiful "If Love is a Red Dress (Hang Me in Rags)" is a standout, partly because it's less familiar. One of the few soundtracks of the '90s that went into the CD player and stayed there for weeks and months thereafter. --Jim Emerson

Fashion be damned: Pop culture is just one big Hometown Buffet for writer-director Quentin Tarantino. Nowhere has that sensibility been more apparent than on his hand-picked soundtrack choices, and this oft tongue-in-cheek tale of a female assassin's revenge (his first film in six years) is no exception. With dizzy, almost palpable glee, Tarantino evokes the international hall-of-mirrors influences that energize martial arts films and much of Asian pop culture in general. Thus the hip-hop of Wu Tang's RZA (who, along with composer Charles Bernstein, concocts what passes for the score's traditional cues) somehow finds itself but one ingredient in a heady souffle that includes vintage TV and film cue rarities (Al Hirt's main title from The Green Hornet, Bernard Herrmann's haunting theme from Twisted Nerve, the spaghetti western melodrama of Luis Bacalov's "The Grand Duel," Isaac Hayes in full blaxploitation mode on "Run Fay Run"), Charlie Feathers' vintage rockabilly and a pan-kitsch sensibility that encompasses Zamfir, Nancy Sinatra's angst-in-the-pants take "Bang, Bang" and Santa Esmeralda's disco-era workout of "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood." Tarantino's contemporary Japan-Pop selections are no less giddy, ranging from Meiko Kaji's sultry "Flower of Carnage" to The 5.6.7.8's loopy "Woo Hoo." It's everything we've come to expect from a Tarantino score (including dialog excerpts and a few sound fx stingers), with a madcap trip around the pop music world thrown in for good measure. -- Jerry McCulley

SOUNDTRACK KILL BILL 2

Quentin Tarantino wraps up his dizzy double-dose of martial arts film tribute cum informed paean to junk cinema with the throw-it-all-against-wall abandon that's become his cliched trademark, if not necessarily his true strength as a filmmaker. That sensibility has long informed his quirky, world-pop savvy soundtracks as well, though this chapter's collection gratifyingly sacrifices a dollop of eclecticism in favor of a little more focused nuance. Revolving loosely around a decidedly international, free-floating axis of Latin rhythm (Chingon's "Malaguena Salerosa, " the flamenco-demento of Lole Y Manuel's "Tu Mira") and Western twang, Tarantino's choices include Morricone both familiar (The Good, the Bad and Ugly's evocative "Il Tramonto") and less so (Il mercenario's "l'arena," "A Silhoutte of Doom"), fellow Roman film scorer Luis Bacalov's slinky, guitar-driven "The Summertime Killer" and a couple disparate slices of Americana by country legend Johnny Cash and rockabilly loose cannon Charlie Feathers. The director's pop fare covers less adventuresome territory, though Malcolm McLaren's trip-hop take on the Zombie's British Invasion chestnut "She's Not There" somehow seems all-of-a-piece with the retro groove of Shivaree's "Goodnight Moon" and melodramatic kitsch of Japanese actress Meiko Kaji's "Urami Bushi." It's all interspersed with excerpts of Tarantino-penned dialog from the film, snippets that only inspire an even greater admiration for his adventurous taste as musical compiler/supervisor. -- Jerry McCulley

Empowers You to Save Hundreds on Electric Bills Electricity bills are rising. Now you can cut down on costs and find out what appliances are actually worth keeping plugged in. Simply connect these appliances to the Kill A Watt, and it will assess how efficient they really are. The large LCD display counts consumption by the kilowatt-hour, the same as your local utility. You can calculate your electrical expenses by the day, week, month, even an entire year. Also check the quality of your power by monitoring voltage, line frequency, and power factor. Now you will know if it is time for a new refrigerator or if that old air conditioner is still saving you money. Kill A Watt can help you reduce your power bill and will help find power-wasting appliances so you are able to decide whether it is worth keeping them plugged in. For standard 115 VAC appliances only, 15 amps maximum, 125 VAC maximum. Find Out How Much Electricity You're Using Large LCD display counts consumption by the kilowatt-hour The U.S Department of Energy reports that 20% of our electric bills come from items that are left plugged in when they are not in use, or items that are in standby mode. With the Kill A Watt P4400 we can monitor the energy eaters in our homes and cut down our electric bills at the same time. Plug whatever item you want into the device and it will tell you the efficiency of that item by displaying the kilowatt per hour. This device will help you determine which items are costing you the most to run. The Kill A Watt also calculates voltage, line frequency, current, and power factor. You can calculate your electric bill before you even receive it from the electric company. Test The Quality of Your Home's Power But measuring appliance consumption is just the tip of the iceberg. Because it can monitor voltage (Volt) and line frequency it can also test if an outlet is working, or evaluate the quality of the electrical power provided by your utility company. It can detect voltage drops around the house, help to predict brownout conditions or to make sure a new home's outlets are in working condition before escrow closes. The LCD shows all meter readings: volts, current, watts, frequency, power factor, and VA About P3 International Founded in 1987, P3 International is a privately owned manufacturer of solution oriented consumer products. "The Bride" (Uma Thurman) gets her satisfaction--and so do we--in Quentin Tarantino's "roaring rampage of revenge," Kill Bill, Vol. 2. Where Vol. 1 was a hyper-kinetic tribute to the Asian chop-socky grindhouse flicks that have been thoroughly cross-referenced in Tarantino's film-loving brain, Vol. 2--not a sequel, but Part Two of a breathtakingly cinematic epic--is Tarantino's contemporary martial-arts Western, fueled by iconic images, music, and themes lifted from any source that Tarantino holds dear, from the action-packed cheapies of William Witney (one of several filmmakers Tarantino gratefully honors in the closing credits) to the spaghetti epics of Sergio Leone. Tarantino doesn't copy so much as elevate the genres he loves, and the entirety of Kill Bill is clearly the product of a singular artistic vision, even as it careens from one influence to another. Violence erupts with dynamic impact, but unlike Vol. 1, this slower grand finale revels in Tarantino's trademark dialogue and loopy longueurs, reviving the career of David Carradine (who plays Bill for what he is: a snake charmer), and giving Thurman's Bride an outlet for maternal love and well-earned happiness. Has any actress endured so much for the sake of a unique collaboration? As the credits remind us, "The Bride" was jointly created by "Q&U," and she's become an unforgettable heroine in a pair of delirious movie-movies (Vol. 3 awaits, some 15 years hence) that Tarantino fans will study and love for decades to come. --Jeff Shannon

Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill, Vol. 1 is trash for connoisseurs. From his opening gambit (including a "Shaw-Scope" logo and gaudy '70s-vintage "Our Feature Presentation" title card) to his cliffhanger finale (a teasing lead-in to 2004's Vol. 2), Tarantino pays loving tribute to grindhouse cinema, specifically the Hong Kong action flicks and spaghetti Westerns that fill his fervent brain--and this frequently breathtaking movie--with enough cinematic references and cleverly pilfered soundtrack cues to send cinephiles running for their reference books. Everything old is new again in Tarantino's humor-laced vision: he steals from the best while injecting his own oft-copied, never-duplicated style into what is, quite simply, a revenge flick, beginning with the near-murder of the Bride (Uma Thurman), pregnant on her wedding day and left for dead by the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad (or DiVAS)--including Lucy Liu and the unseen David Carradine (as Bill)--who become targets for the Bride's lethal vengeance. Culminating in an ultraviolent, ultra-stylized tour-de-force showdown, Tarantino's fourth film is either brilliantly (and brutally) innovative or one of the most blatant acts of plagiarism ever conceived. Either way, it's hyperkinetic eye-candy from a passionate film-lover who clearly knows what he's doing. --Jeff Shannon

Kill Bill

When you are in a comprehensive fat loss program, you know that you need to control what you eat and you need to work out. But you might not know that your chronic lack of sleep can sabotage both of those goals. Here's what you need to know about how lack of sleep can keep you from losing fat, even if you are doing everything else right.

When you don't get enough sleep (typically between 7 and 9 hours a night) you're not only going to be tired during the day, you're going to mess up the levels of key hormones in your body. Researchers have shown that a lack of sleep changes the amounts of two key hormones that control how much we eat. A hormone called Grehlin controls how hungry we feel while one called Leptin tells our brains that we're full and should stop eating.

When you aren't getting enough sleep, the amount of Grehlin in your body increases, while the amount of Leptin decreases. The result is that you are hungrier than you would normally be, and you don't feel full as quickly when you eat. And the result of that is that you tend to eat too much.

Also, if you're like me, when you are really sleepy, you need to eat to stay awake. When I'm exhausted, I'm much more likely to snack too much, and I'll usually choose sugary, high-calorie snacks for the quick jolt of energy they give me. More food and less healthy food is a sure formula for fat loss failure.

A chronic lack of sleep also affects your workouts. When you are tired, you don't have the energy you need to work out as hard as you would if you were well rested. And of course if you don't work out as hard as you otherwise would, you'll get less benefit from the workout, which just makes any fat loss program that much less effective.

An indirect effect of too little sleep on your workouts is the increased chance of getting hurt. When you are exhausted, you're more likely to use improper form in some exercise, or make a mistake that leaves you injured. Missing workouts because you were so tired you hurt yourself will definitely sabotage your fat loss plans.

So make sure you get enough sleep whenever you can. There was a time when people thought that sleeping made you fat. Now we know that not sleeping too little makes you fat, and getting a full nights sleep is a key part of any fat loss plan.

Getting enough sleep is only one element of a full fat loss program. For unbiased reviews of the top fat loss programs, visit http://FatLossAtLast.com/

Bill of Sale: Choosing the Best Form to Sell Your Car

There seems to be a trend to get out of debt and sell one of the cars. People like Dave Ramsey are attracting millions to their radio talk shows with the main subject being "becoming debt free." Getting out of debt often means selling the car that is depreciating faster than you can say Blue Book. Just with a few hours preparation, one can earn many thousands of dollars more by selling retail rather than wholesale through a dealer. Selling retail means selling it yourself. Take pictures and post your ad on www.craigslist.org for free or close to free. Next, prepare for success with a great Bill of Sale Form. This is more important than you may think. By the way, more and more people are buying from individuals because they find that the least expensive way to own a car is to buy it used from an individual. Even though the seller usually provides the form, if you are the car buyer, then you may want to provide the bill of sale form to the seller for your own protection.

When you go to a restaurant and receive a receipt, you are in a sense receiving a bill of sale for payment of your meal. This is the simplest kind with the most advanced kind being the one your attorney writes to sell a business or a home. The best and most expensive kind of bill of sale for selling your car is one written by your attorney. It is guaranteed to be tailor-made to your circumstances. But, perhaps you do not need a tailor-made suit from Saville Row in London. Perhaps one off the rack with a few alterations will do the trick. What is called boilerplate or standard bill of sale forms may be what you want.

Go to the Internet and search on "bill of sale" or "bill of sale form." You will find a thousand examples and most will work fine, however, we are here to talk about the best. We want to save you the time of an exhaustive search on Google.

Free Forms

Most of the "free" forms are worth what you pay for them. They are very simple and remind us of the restaurant receipt. They give little or no protection and your buyer could be scared out of the deal.

Bill of Sale Forms for Specific States

These forms are suggested minimum forms for each specific state. The states are doing a service to their citizens by suggesting forms. They may not give you the protection you desire. If you want more protection and you should, you will have to either go to your attorney or find forms with better protection. Some of these you will find below.

CAUTION! An Inadequate Bill of Sale Form Can Kill a Sale

Why do people pay thousands of dollars more for a car from a dealer than from an individual? Because the dealer takes the fear out of the sale. The dealer will take a trade-in, give financing and smoothly run through the paperwork. You also want to have High Quality paperwork so the buyer feels safe. Make sure you provide a bill of sale form that makes your buyer feel confident and secure. The form must be professional and look like something they would sign at a dealership. Otherwise they could get cold feet and change their minds and go to a dealer.

Make Sure the Form can be Edited

Many forms sold on the Internet are in PDF format. Some of these forms require ownership of PDF software in order to fill in the blanks. Most people own the free PDF software to read a file but they don’t own the software to edit a file. If you do not have this software, then buy the form in MS Word. It is important that the blanks be typed. If you hand write in the blank spaces then your form will not build confidence with the buyer.

Bill of Sale Forms with Better Protection

If you are not used to working with legal forms then you may not be aware of using a Public Notary. These people are licensed by the state and their job is to validate signatures to legal documents. They check your identification, watch you sign, and then they date and sign the document and use an official seal. No one can say with any credibility that those signatures are forged. When selling a car, for the protection of all, signatures are notarized. The notary charges a small fee or your bank may let you use their notary for free. We would not recommend any forms without a space for a notary.

If You Have the Title

If you already own the car, then you will have the title. Signing the back of the title with an odometer statement is your bill of sale. Most likely, you don’t need a bill of sale from the Internet.

If You Owe Money on the Car

If you have a loan on your car, then you will want to use a special bill of sale form. You must pay off the loan, receive the title and sign over the title. Most buyers do not want to hand over money so you can pay off your loans unless you provide them with a form that gives them confidence to their ownership. This form should show the name of your loan company and an estimated time when you will receive the title and hand over the title to the new owner. Most people put 30 days, however we recommend that once you have cleared funds, that you wire them to the loan company and pay to have the title sent overnight. Get the transaction done as soon as possible. You don’t want delays.

Statement That the Car is Sold "As is"

An "as is" statement is very important for people selling their own cars. It basically says you are giving no guarantees. You do not want to have something major happen to the car a month after the sale and then have the buyer take you to court because she/he said you said everything was great. Let the dealers give warrantees with their higher sale prices. You want the "as is" statement on your bill of sale for your future safety.

Odometer Statement as Part of a Bill of Sale

Many states require an odometer statement and in fact have one on the back of the title. The odometer statement tells the buyer the amount of miles on the odometer. Not only should you have your signature notarized on this statement, you should have the buyers signature notarized. You want him to publicly agree with you for the miles statement.

Bill of Sale Form Satisfaction Guaranteed

Whenever I buy something on the Internet, I make sure there is contact information with a toll-free 800 number and a Satisfaction Guarantee Statement. I suggest when buying a Bill of Sale Form on the Internet, you use the same policy.

Receiving Payment for Your Car

It’s a good idea to meet at your bank to sign paperwork and receive money. Ask for cash, wired funds, cashier’s check (be careful, some people are printing fraudulent cashier’s checks-call the bank. Use the number from the phone book, not the one on the check.), or a cleared personal check. Make sure all money is cleared before you sign the Bill of Sale. That is why you want cash, wired funds, or a cashier’s check—you want to sign the document while your buyer is with you and the funds instantly clear.

Use a document with all of these safety features and you and your buyer will be happy and secure and you will see a smooth transaction with no worries for the future.

For one of the only companies that meet all these features we recommend Best Bill of Sale.
