Many episodes of this beloved series focused on either the relationship between Lucy (Lucille Ball) and Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz) or between best pals Lucy and her neighbor, Ethel Mertz (the talented Vivian Vance). And sometimes it was Ricky and Fred Mertz (William Frawley) versus their wives or, once in awhile, the Ricardos versus the Mertzes. No worries, the shows always end with a happy hug. The most fervent I Love Lucy fans may cite, as a favorite, the first episode on this tape, "Job Switching," in which Lucy and Ethel challenge Ricky and Fred to a domestic role reversal. As the men toil as homemakers, Lucy and Ethel find work at a candy factory. When the shop supervisor explains the process of making and packaging the candy, it seems simple enough, but the conveyor belt isn't working in the gals' favor. Hilarious hijinks ensue. Also on this tape is "Lucy Meets Bob Hope." By the time this episode (number 154) appeared, Lucy Ricardo's reputation as a star-seeker and inadvertent troublemaker had preceded her. So when Ricky hopes that Bob will appear at the opening of his new club, Lucy sets out to smooth things over with the celebrity. Knowing Lucy, misunderstandings abound, but this time they work in her favor. This second episode is also notable because it reunites Ball and Hope, who starred together in such movies as Sorrowful Jones and Fancy Pants. --N.F. Mendoza

I Love Lucy - The Complete Second Season

Season 2 of I Love Lucy includes two of the most famous half-hours in television history. "Job Switching," originally broadcast mid-September of 1952, is the crazy, battle-of-the-sexes episode in which husbands Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz) and Fred Mertz (William Frawley) trade roles with wives Lucy (Lucille Ball) and Ethel (Vivian Vance), culminating in the men making a shambles of domestic chores while Lucy and Ethel take disastrous work at a chocolate factory. That's right: This is the show where the ladies have a Chaplinesque experience with a too-fast factory conveyor belt, forcing them to hide candies in their mouths, in their hats, and down their blouses lest a tough forewoman fire them for incompetence. A half-century later, the scene is still so fresh and funny it would grace any current sitcom. "Lucy Goes to the Hospital," which received an amazing 71.7 rating on January 19, 1953, is the historic episode featuring the birth of Little Ricky and a load of wonderful slapstick. Other television series (The Dick Van Dyke Show) and movies (Nine Months) have tried to top Lucy's time-to-go-to-the-hospital shenanigans, but there's nothing like the sight of Ricky and Fred falling all over themselves or Ricky showing up at the maternity ward (direct from a voodoo-themed show at the Tropicana) in witch doctor makeup. The other 31 episodes included in I Love Lucy: The Compete Second Season have choice moments, too. "Lucy Becomes a Sculptress" finds the ever-ambitious redhead falling for empty flattery at an art-supply store and commencing an ill-advised career working in clay. Ricky agrees to bless this new endeavor if an art critic says she has talent, but Lucy tries to increase her chances by posing as a bust of herself--resulting in mayhem, of course. The usual running themes in I Love Lucy--Lucy's misguided desire to be a part of Ricky's musical career, and her penchant for disguising herself to investigate something--are all over The Complete Second Season. "Ricky Loses His Voice" is a delightful piece in which Ricky's laryngitis inspires Lucy, the Mertzes, and an aging chorus line to put on a Tropicana spectacle, and "Ricky Has Labor Pains" finds Lucy and Ethel going undercover as male reporters to find out what happens at a stag party. Lots to enjoy here, and the special features include bloopers, information about the guest cast, and snippets from Ball's radio show. --Tom Keogh
From its 1951 premiere to the present day I Love Lucy has never been off the air! You'll see why in this hilarious five-disc DVD collection containing the show's entire second season. Laugh out loud at such gems as "Job Switching" - in which Lucy and Ethel do unforgettable battle with a chocolate factory conveyor belt; "The Handcuffs" - in which Lucy cuffs herself to Ricky and then loses the key; and "The Operetta" - in which Lucy's money problems bring down the curtain on her role as 'Queen of the Gypsies.' This collection also includes the groundbreaking "pregnancy shows" including the touching moment at the Tropicana when Lucy breaks the news to Ricky that they are going to have a baby and "Lucy Goes to the Hospital" - the record-setting episode that garnered the highest rating in the history of television!DVD Features: Featurette: Disc 23- Behind the Scenes Featurettes Disc 5- Behind the Scenes Slide ShowAdditional Scenes: Deleted footage and lost scenesBloopers: Flubs on discs 1-5Other: Guest Cast Information (all discs) Original Openings (all discs) Production Notes on discs 1-4 Lucy's Radio Show on discs 1-4System Requirements: Running Time 779 MinFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/CLASSICS Rating: NR UPC: 097368796942 Manufacturer No: 879694

What happens when husband Michael Keaton loses his job and wife Teri Garr has to go to work, leaving him with the housework, the neighbors and the kids? Find out in this winning comedy, filled with nutty situations that'll leave you laughing until your toast burns. With Martin Mull, Ann Jillian, Christopher Lloyd. 90 min. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: French, Spanish.
When Jack Butler (Michael Keaton) loses his job at an auto factory, he expects to quickly find another. But instead, his wife Caroline (Teri Garr) starts working for an ad agency and Jack ends up taking care of the house and kids. He soon runs afoul of shopping etiquette, a voracious vacuum cleaner, and he can't even drop his kids off at school properly. He starts losing his pride and letting himself go. He stops shaving, drinks at all hours, and watches soap operas. And not only does a predatory divorcée (Ann Jillian) have her eye on him, Caroline's new boss (Martin Mull) has more than business on his mind. Will their marriage survive? What makes Mr. Mom work isn't its role-reversal premise, but its clever off-the-main-plot scenes like the obstacle course at the company picnic, where a footrace with swim fins is set to a variation on the theme to Chariots of Fire; a poker game using discount coupons for money; or a traumatic, soap-opera-influenced dream Jack has when he realizes his life is going down the toilet. This is the first starring role for Michael Keaton, who went on to star in Beetlejuice and Batman; he makes the most of both its comic and sentimental side. The script, incidentally, is written by John Hughes, who later went on to write and direct The Breakfast Club and Home Alone. --Bret Fetzer

The Panasonic CQ-C9700U high-power, in-car digital amplifier/CD player (70W x 4 channels) controls power amplification by rapidly switching the current on and off to drive the speakers. This promotes cooler operation so higher power can be handled without increasing heatsink size. It also offers SRS CS Automotive 3D sound reproduction technology, which delivers the virtual ambience and soundstage depth of a 5.1-channel surround system. It lets you experience a natural sound filed anywhere in the car, unlike artificial sound-field manipulation by methods such as time delay. TruBass and Focus functions are also provided to bring back the rich bass and sparkling treble tones that tend to be lost in compressed music formats like MP3 and WMA. Spice up your drive with this CD receiver's 3D action graphics that look especially cool on the illuminated blue display. The 3D Dot Matrix (3DDM) display renders graphics and animations with over 20,000 pixels of resolution, resulting in smooth motion and highly detailed images. It includes six display modes, including a spectrum analyzer and full-motion animations. This CD receiver not only plays CDs, but also CD-R/RW discs. If you've got WMA and MP3 music files recorded on the same CD-R/RW disc, no problem--this CD receiver can handle it. For your listening pleasure, the acclaimed Alphatuner V FM/AM tuner circuitry is built into this unit as well, and there are 18 FM and 6 AM presets. Other features include: AUX input for connecting an external digital audio player Motorized front panel Remote control A radio's IF filter has the job of preventing neighboring broadcast frequencies from interfering with reception of your desired station. Our Radio DSP uses an advanced algorithm to perform this task digitally, so you only hear the station you want. It maintains the optimum balance between noise suppression and sound quality by automatically adjusting the IF filter bandwidth in response to the variable interference you may encounter as you drive. You can easily upgrade to an external amp system by using the dual preamp outputs on this 4-channel head unit. This allows for a maximum output voltage of 5V and output impedance of 60 ohms that not only help protect the signal from external noise, but also permit low power amp gain for powerful reproduction of transient peaks with minimum distortion. The CQ-C8400U offers the following CD changer controls: track/disc scan, track/disc repeat, and search/random play. Features Large Rotary Knob. A large rotary volume control knob on the left side of the front panel adds to the hi-fi audio image. Operation is easy and familiar. Push in on the large knob to make item selections, and turn to adjust level. Not only does it operate smoothly, but it also provides a satisfying tactile solidity. Sound Quality. I am thinking of switching job. I have a close relationship with my boss. Should I tell her right away?
I have an excellent relationship with my boss. She even promised me a promotion next year. However, work is hell with tons of work to do and lots of overtime. Another organization is trying to lure me with a more interesting job and a bit more money. I know it might sounds stupid but I am afraid to be seen as ungrateful if I were to leave my current job.
Without telling her yet that you are being lured by another company, I would have a frank discussion with her that you need more challenge and your company isn't able to offer it. Be specific about your accomplishments and worth to your present company and if she says she can't promote you now, then pursue the other company and if they really make an offer, go back to your boss and tell her you hate to leave but you do have to do what's best for you in the long run.
