Directed by Richard Mozer, Goya: Awakened in a Dream is a powerful portrait of the enigmatic artist who in his old age maintained a youthful rebelliousness at heart. Goya, one of Spain's greatest painters, created a wide and varied range of work. He was at times a painter, a cartoonist, a portrait artist and a satirist. His Caprices were the first social, political, moral and religious satires ever created, oddly at the same time that Goya painted his most conventional portraits, including religious works for churches. Goya went on to defy the king and the inquisition, abandoning the royal court in favour of a simple life in the countryside. His landmark Black Paintings bridged the gap between traditional court portraiture to modern, personal interpretive works. "The challenge of this film was to do justice to Goya's art which can be very dark and contemplative while conveying the mystery and wonder of his paintings to children who might otherwise find his work a little scary," revealed director Richard Mozer. Created and produced by David Devine and Richard Mozer from a screenplay by award-winning playwright and screenwriter Michael Maclennan, Goya: Awakened in a Dream was shot in Valtice in southern Moravia in the Czech Republic. Moravia is home to over 80 castles and palaces built since the turn of the 15th century and is also where several of Devine Entertaimment's Composers Specials were filmed. The castle in Goya: Awakened in a Dream was built by an Italian architect and by Italian labourers. It is beautiful and strikingly similar to the palace in Madrid. Goya become a court painter rather late in life, at the age of 43. He immediately added the "de" in front of his name to suggest aristocratic kinship. From then on, his future was assured, and he rose to even higher eminence. What Goya enjoyed the most was the study of people, showing them at their best and worst moments. He needed to make sense of life as it unfolded and thus he always had a crayon and notebook within reach. Goya seemed to have an endless capacity for joy. Even during the bleakest periods of his life, he continued to capture the colour of life and never lost his sense of humour. One of the saddest realities of his life is that though his wife gave birth to 12 children, only one survived. In his productive stretches, he worked with incredible speed, capturing ideas and visions. Without Leocadia, he might have even forgotten to eat.

Though the "inspirational teacher" theme may feel done to death, Freedom Writers succeeds because it emphasizes the students as much as the teacher. Erin Gruwell (Hilary Swank, Million Dollar Baby, Boys Don't Cry) comes to a southern California high school bubbling over with naive optimism, but quickly discovers that her unruly classroom isn't easily won over by her good intentions. After a few floundering attempts to connect with her students, Gruwell gives them the assignment of keeping journals about their own lives--an assignment that the class bites into with relish, which eventually bonds them together and pushes racial rivalries aside. This plotline has been made before, sometimes well, sometimes poorly; Freedom Writers, by drawing heavily from the published journals of the students--and thanks to a (mostly) unheroic script, direction that emphasizes individual characters over stereotypes, and rigorous performances from the whole cast--makes the story seem fresh and genuine. Swank does solid work, but the standouts are April L. Hernandez as a girl whose gang wants her to lie and send an innocent boy to jail and Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake) as a teacher who resents Gruwell's offbeat success. Also featuring Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy), Scott Glenn (The Right Stuff), and a plethora of strong young actors. --Bret Fetzer Beyond Freedom Writers More Inspirational Teacher Films on DVD The Freedom Writers Diary by Erin Gruwell More DVDs Starring Hilary Swank Stills from Freedom Writers (click for larger image)

Here are some more information for Jaclyn Smith:

Northwestern University, located in Evanston, Illinois is a prestigious college with a world class academic reputation. While the academic credentials are perhaps what the Chicago area school is best known for many people are unaware of just how successful the women's lacrosse team is and the positive impact they are making as a charter member of the charitable organization Friends of Jaclyn.
Women's sports almost always get less attention than men's sports so it is not surprising that a sport like women's lacrosse would receive little national exposure. This observation is particularly clear when considering the facts that it is both a game played by females and a low profile sport in the US with rules that are only understood by a small minority of Americans. Despite these obstacles the Northwestern Wildcats women's lacrosse team has actually made some headway in terms of national recognition in large part as a result of their on field successes. While American sports fan are usually slow in adopting an appreciation for new sports they are quick to show interest in a winner.
The success the Northwestern University women have experienced can be neatly summed up by simply stating that they have won the last five national championships played from the years 2005-2009 and that during that span the ladies have put together a record of 106 wins and only 3 losses. Kim Amonte Hiller is the coach of the revered program and is the women largely responsible for raising the program to heights previously thought impossible for a Midwestern school in a sport normally dominated by east coast players and teams. In fact, the Northwestern University ladies are the only team not in the Eastern Time Zone to ever win a national championship in this sport.
Home games for the dynasty lacrosse program are played at Lakeside Field near the main campus of the school. As previously stated the girls have only suffered three rare losses during the five season national championship span with each of those losses coming in road games. Consequently the Northwestern Wildcats have the unique distinction of being able to claim that no team has come onto their field in the past five seasons and been able to knock off the home team.
Of all the trophies and awards the team and its accomplished players have received over the years the achievement the program is most proud of is their work with a young girl named Jaclyn Murphy who was diagnosed with a dangerous brain tumor as an infant. Since 2005 the team has served as a support system for Jaclyn and her family as they collectively deal with her challenging medical situation. Team members have become like big sisters to Jaclyn and she has become a sort of mascot for the squad that is inspired by the young girl. Mr. Murphy, Jaclyn's father, has been so enamored with the positive impact that the Northwestern University Women's lacrosse team has had on his little girl that he has established a charitable organization called Friends of Jaclyn which aims to match other teams (in various sports) with young children dealing with emotionally draining medical issues.
Sam, the author of this article, understands that among the numerous items Jaclyn Smith has to show her support is a Northwestern University blanket. The style of the Northwestern Wildcats blanket that Jaclyn has is likely similar to ones girls from the team have.

Christina Applegate
Christina Applegate is one of the youngest and most vocal celebrities with breast cancer. She was diagnosed in 2008 when she was only 36 years old. The former star of "Married with Children" was filming her new successful hit show "Samantha Who?" when she was diagnosed. She tested positive for a gene mutation that greatly increases the risk of breast cancer. And because her mother had also been diagnosed with breast cancer more than once, making heredity just one more risk factor for the young woman, she opted to not just have the breast with the cancer removed, but to have both removed. This double mastectomy was a preventative measure to stave off any future cancer. Applegate speaks out for the available of MRI testing for women of all income levels, because it was this test that detected her cancer early and has probably saved her life by reducing her risk of the cancer spreading or recurring.
