Samuel and the carnies continue to be among the best elements of the season thus far. Samuelâ??s motivations may be mysterious, but he has emerged as a very distinct personality, right down to his variable pseudo-Irish accent. I said in previous reviews that he reminded me somewhat of Magneto, and thatâ??s still very much the case.

The general consensus is that the previous episode was a good example of a bad transitional episode. Despite all the movement of pieces on the board, there wasnâ??t much to enjoy. The same transitional approach is in play in this episode, yet it seems to have just a little more heft to it. Even so, the problems with â??Heroesâ?? still persist.

Or not. When the girls get back to the dorm room, Claire calls Gretchen out on all the photos and odd behavior. She even outright accuses Gretchen of murdering Annie to open up a spot in Claire's bedroom. Gretchen denies killing Annie, but confesses that she does have a little bit of an obsession with Claire. But no worries: "I'm not stalking you, I'm crushing," Gretchen says, as she lays the much ballyhooed kiss on Claire, who is speechless.

I was also displeased with the direction taken with Nathan/Sylar. Four episodes into the season, the writers have already all but abandoned the entire point of â??reprogrammingâ?? Sylar into thinking he was Nathan. I said previously that it was a mistake to have Sylar start showing through the seams too quickly, but now itâ??s clear that they never had any intention of keeping â??Nathanâ?? around for any meaningful purpose.

It took him a while to establish himself and he's had his share of setbacks.
