COLDPLAY A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD
Coldplay required a lifetime to make their wonderfully assured debut, Parachutes. But it took less than two years for the moody British quartet to deliver a masterful follow-up. As a band, Coldplay have advanced to a stage where they outshine nearly every one of their rivals in terms of imagination and emotional pull. A Rush of Blood to the Head is a soulful, exhilarating journey, moving from the cathartic rock of "Politik" to the hushed tones of "Green Eyes" without once breaking its mesmerizing spell. Singer Chris Martin takes his voice on soaring flights, reaching places only Jeff Buckley previously dared to go. And the music is nearly flawless, a persuasive cross between Pink Floyd and the Verve. Even if they haven't come up with another "Yellow," you would be hard-pressed to care. This is exquisite stuff. --Aidin Vaziri

Get shot in the head and become a better person. This 1991 Mike Nichols (Wolf) film stars Harrison Ford as a big-shot cold-hearted lawyer who gets a bullet in his brain during a holdup. The film de-emphasizes the traumas of recovery to focus on the title character's personality change after the fact. The canny Ford gets to work from his full, familiar palette of arrogance to boyishness, and even builds Henry from top to bottom after the wounded fellow awakens with no memory. But this is a slow and unremarkable film from Nichols, its sentimentality eclipsing all else, most of all profound insight. --Tom Keogh

Sikov, The Author Of On Sunset Boulevard: The Life And Times Of Billy Wilder, Also Provides A Very Informative If Rather Dry Commentary Track. Other Features Include A Map Spotlighting The Hollywood Locations In The Film, Photo Galleries, And Two Versions Of The Script For The Original Morgue Opening, One Of Which Is Supplemented With Silent Footage Cut From The Picture. --David Horiuchi
Billy Wilder's noir-comic classic about death and decay in Hollywood remains as pungent as ever in its power to provoke shock, laughter, and gasps of astonishment. Joe Gillis (William Holden), a broke and cynical young screenwriter, is attempting to ditch a pair of repo men late one afternoon when he pulls off L.A.'s storied Sunset Boulevard and into the driveway of a seedy mansion belonging to Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson), a forgotten silent movie luminary whose brilliant acting career withered with the coming of talkies. The demented old movie queen lives in the past, assisted by her devoted (but intimidating) butler, Max (played by Erich von Stroheim, the legendary director of Greed and Swanson's own lost epic, Queen Kelly). Norma dreams of making a comeback in a remake of Salome to be directed by her old colleague Cecil B. DeMille (as himself), and Joe becomes her literary and romantic gigolo. Sunset Blvd. is one of those great movies that has become a part of popular culture (the line "All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up," has entered the language)--but it's no relic. Wow, does it ever hold up. --Jim Emerson

The Simpsons - The Complete Sixth Season
List Price: $39.98
Sale Price: $17.20

All 25 episodes from season six--including "Bart of Darkness," "Itchy & Scratchy Land," "Lisa on Ice," "Homer the Great," and "Who Shot Mr. Burns, Part 1"--are featured in a four-disc set. 9 1/2 hrs. total. Standard; Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital Surround, Spanish Dolby Digital Surround; Subtitles: English, Spanish; audio commentary; extended scenes; storyboards; TV spots; more. **25 episodes on 4 discs. 9 1/2 hrs.**
The classic to clunker ratio is still extraordinarily high, though The Simpsons' sixth season could give some devoted viewers pause. The show that takes cheeky delight in mooning television convention gives us "Another Simpsons Clip Show" and its first season-ending cliffhanger, "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" And, as does Bart in "A Star Is Burns," we should all feel a little dirty at the "cheap cartoon crossover" appearance of Jay Sherman (Jon Lovitz), designed to give a boost to the ill-fated animated series The Critic. But this is just beard-stroking tongue-clucking regarding a season that delivered episodes that rank in the hallowed The Simpsons pantheon, among them, "Homer Badman," in which lust for a gummy Venus de Milo, peeled from the behind of an unwitting babysitter, makes Homer the object of feminist protest and tabloid TV fodder, and "Homer the Great," in which Homer is discovered to be the Chosen One to lead the secret society, "The Stonecutters" ("Who holds back the electric car/Who made Steve Guttenberg a star?/We do!"). Several episodes take their inspiration from classic films and books: Hitchcock's Rear Window ("Bart of Darkness"); Michael Crichton's Westworld and Jurassic Park ("Itchy and Scratchy Land"); and Stephen King and Ray Bradbury ("Treehouse of Horror V"). This season's roster of guest voices is also especially impressive, including Winona Ryder as "Lisa's Rival," Meryl Streep as Rev. Lovejoy's bad-seed daughter ("She's like a Milk Dud," a smitten Bart laments. "Sweet on the outside, poison on the inside"), the late Anne Bancroft in "Fear of Flying"; Patrick Stewart in "Homer the Great"; Mel Brooks and Susan Sarandon in "Homer vs. Patty and Selma," and Mandy Patinkin as Lisa's future fiancée in the surprisingly moving "Lisa's Wedding." There has, of late, been a feud a-brewin' between fans of The Simpsons and Family Guy. Which show is funnier? Has The Simpsons lost it? Is Family Guy a Simpsons-wannabe? Hey; Can't we all just laugh along? Best to just marvel at another exemplary Simpsons season that, to quote Homer in "Lisa's Rival," delivers it all: "The terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles." --Donald Liebenson

Here are some more information for Head Shot:

Headshots are like actors' business cards. They are your #1 marketing tool as an actor so make sure they are spectacular. A great actor photo is everything because it will get your foot in the door and further your career while a bad actor photo has the potential to ruin your career.
Your photograph must make an immediate impact on those who see it. As they say in this industry, casting directors and agents like to see actor headshots in Los Angeles that "pop." While there is no specific formula for creating a successful actor photo, all great ones have a few things in common. Here are 7 essential components of a great actor photograph.
1. A great actor headshot focuses on the subject of the photograph and expresses his or her potential for a part. There is no wild clothing, hairstyle, or jewelry to distract from you in the photo. The photo also has to be technically perfect with no shadows or distracting backgrounds to take attention away from you.
2. A great actor photo brings out the best in you without looking unnatural or staged. Actor headshots in Los Angeles should be flattering but not at the expense of reality.
3. Headshots must focus on your eyes, reveal your personality, and tell a story. In order to get a casting director or agent's attention, your photos must express something unique. Find a photographer who can help bring out your best qualities in a shoot.
4. The pressure to create great headshots in Los Angeles can be overwhelming because you only have a few hours to create photos that will essentially make or break your career. This pressure is understandable but in order for your photos to "pop," you must appear relaxed, comfortable, and at ease. Look for a photographer who is easygoing and whom you feel comfortable with so you can look and feel your best in your photos.
5. In great headshots, actors connect with the viewers. Achieving that visible level of communication with the camera requires the expertise of a competent, experienced photographer.
6. Great actor photos do not have overly dramatic lighting and distracting backgrounds. Actor photos are meant to show how professional and serious you are to casting directors and agents.
7. Most importantly, great headshots in Los Angeles require great photographers! Do your research and talk with several photographers before deciding on one. It's important to get a sense of how a photographer works. A shoot's atmosphere will largely determine how your photos turn out so make sure you feel at ease with your photographer.
Head shots that possess these qualities will dramatically improve your chances of success in the acting world. Don't settle for mediocre actor photos when you market yourself to casting directors and agents. Make sure your photos make a lasting impression by carefully selecting a photographer who truly understands what a great headshot consists of and who is capable of bringing out your best qualities.
For more tips and information about how to get headshots that "pop", go to Adriana Sult's website, LA Headshots Photographer. A formal art school graduate and published photographer, Adriana knows exactly what it takes to create actor headshots in Los Angeles that will get you the gig.
Accelerate to Improve Your Chip Shots
Your golf club head is much more stable and will produce more consistent golf shots when you accelerate through impact. This is true of all golf shots but no truer than with a chip shot from around the putting green. Producing a better chip shot will lead to more chip ins. Deceleration while chipping could result in a fluffed or stubbed chip shot and this will result in extra strokes. The trick is not to accelerate the golf club with your hands. Using your hands will only ruin the rhythm of any chip shot or golf stroke and the results are usually not very good
How to get acceleration on a chip shot - Center your swing motion about two feet past impact to achieve the kind of smooth acceleration evident in golf swings of better players. In other words, imagine producing maximum arm extension and maximum club head speed two feet past the ball. In order to do this, your backswing will be shorter than your follow-through. This will automatically produce smooth acceleration through impact. Acceleration through impact is a good thing. A smooth acceleration is what you need to hit the consistently solid shots you desire.
What to do with an open face? Accelerate! - If you need to create a high-lofted lob shot that will fly to the hole and stop, use an open stance and clubface use a three-quarter backswing and a full finish. The club head MUST accelerate through impact for any open face shot. How do you guarantee you will accelerate the club head? Your follow through must be longer than your backswing was.
Set your golf shot plan for a chip shot - You first need to plan the type of golf shot you will be able to execute the majority of the time. Your golf shot plan should include where the golf ball lands on the putting green. This spot should be as flat as possible. If you attempt to land your golf ball on a hill, any mistake that make will be amplified. If you land it short of your target into a hill, obviously the ball will be stopped sooner and will not roll out as far. The opposite is true if your mistake is past your target. Your golf ball will bound forward and roll out farther than you had calculated in your golf shot plan. If you have to land your golf ball on an uneven slope, it is better to use a valley or a swale. This terrain would have the opposite effect and would help any mistake that you make.
Hold your finish - Many players do not have the right shape to their chip shot. Their backswing is much longer than their follow through. In order to do this, the golf club has got to be decelerating or slowing down through impact. This does not give you as much control. Picture a car going one hundred miles an hour and slamming on the brakes. How much control do you have as opposed to sitting still in a car and accelerate to one hundred miles an hour. You will be in much more control while accelerating.
Use these tips to improve your chipping and your golf scores will come down and so will your handicap.
