Tenacious D - The Complete Master Works

If you're not a Tenacious D fan already, The Complete Master Works might make you an instant convert (or scare you away; it all depends). One thing's for sure: If you thought "the D" were nothing more than a novelty act, this two-disc feast will set you straight, proving that classically trained guitarist Kyle Gass and fast-rising comedy star Jack Black (School of Rock) are a bona fide acoustic power duo, scorching the pop-cultural landscape with their satirically scathing lyrics while qualifying as legitimate musicians with awesome chops and just enough insanity to make them dangerous on stage. Disc 1 ("For Fans") is all meat and potatoes, consisting of a brilliant concert (taped at London's Brixton Academy, November 3, 2002) in which Black casts himself as an abrasive provocateur, daring to offend "KG" and the audience alike with barbed taunts and spiteful attitude (all faked, of course, but convincing enough to sucker the gullible). The musicianship is first-rate, and Black's vocals remarkably spry, a deft combination of rapid-fire scatting and heavy-metal worship. The HBO episodes chronicle TD's early years as their popularity was still mostly an L.A.-based phenomenon, and without exception they're wet-your-pants hilarious. Disc 2 is aptly dubbed "For Psycho Fans," offering a potpourri of TD ephemera for true devotees, including three HBO short films that are gross enough (and funny enough) to make any Farrelly Brothers comedy look positively tame by comparison (in other words, this definitely isn't kid's stuff). The TV appearances are somewhat redundant with the concert material, and the "On the Road" video diaries are perfunctory but fun. The best is saved for last: two music videos paired with "making-of" featurettes, including Spike Jonze's fantasy-oriented video for "Wonderboy," and a devilishly adult-oriented video for "FHG" (salacious "D" fans know what that means) from the animators of Ren & Stimpy. If you're offended, don't blame "Kage" and "Jables"--their Tenacious DVD has "Parental Advisory" clearly stamped on its cover, and prudes are well-advised to stay away. --Jeff Shannon
Satiric rockers Tenacious D (Jack Black and Kyle Gass) take the spotlight in a two-disc program that offers a fabulous overview of the cult group. A live 2002 concert from London's Brixton Academy, the six-episode HBO series that told the story of D's early days, music videos, and TV appearances are among the goodies here. Songs include "Wonderboy," "Friendship," "Dio," and "The Cosmic Shame." 206 min. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital 5. 1.

Harrowing, funny, and immediately addictive, the 1979 British television series Danger UXB stars Anthony Andrews as Army Lieutenant Brian Ash, an engineering student whose excitement about his rapid commission as an officer during World War II is tempered by his unenviable post with a bomb disposal unit. Assigned to a fatality-heavy team that defuses unexploded German bombs scattered throughout London during the blitz, Ash faces down his terror and eventually becomes the closest thing to an expert one can be dismantling sometimes booby-trapped ordnance. In doing so, he earns the respect of his superiors as well as from the enlisted men working under him, and his protracted survival is nothing short of miraculous considering the tragic number of friends and colleagues Ash loses. There is a dark side, however. The longer Ash sticks with his unit, the more obsessive he becomes about his responsibility to keep London safe. Meanwhile, his nerves grow frayed and his morale collapses. Ash's desperate romance with a married woman (Judy Geeson) provides him little to hold onto, and when a true crisis ambushes his spirit toward the end, one can't be sure if he's headed for the scrap heap of permanent casualties. Based on the recollections of an actual wartime bomb disposer, Danger UXB was created by John Hawkesworth, who later produced (and wrote many episodes for) the fantastic Sherlock Holmes TV series starring Jeremy Brett. Despite many tense moments in Danger UXB's 13 episodes--one is always expecting a bomb to blow away a favorite character--the show is also graced by great humor (Ash's crew sometimes bring to mind Sergeant Bilko's hustlers) and a warm, likable cast. Andrews himself, perhaps, has never been better. This boxed set includes a History Channel documentary, "Bomb Squad." --Tom Keogh

Now you can achieve multiple viewings of the best Sex on TV. Winner of Golden Globes for Best TV Series and Best Actress, Sex and the City is based on Candace Bushnell's provocative bestselling book. Sarah Jessica Parker stars as Carrie Bradshaw, a self-described "sexual anthropologist," who writes "Sex and the City," a newspaper column that chronicles the state of sexual affairs of Manhattanites in this "age of un-innocence." Her "posse," including nice girl Charlotte (Kristin Davis), hard-edged Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and party girl Samantha (Kim Cattrall)--not to mention her own tumultuous love life--gives Carrie plenty of column fodder. Over the course of the first season's 12 episodes, the most prominent dramatic arc concerns Carrie, who goes from turning the tables on "toxic bachelors" by having "sex like a man" to wanting to join the ranks of "the monogamists" with the elusive Mr. Big (Chris Noth). Meanwhile, Miranda, Cynthia, and Samantha have their own dating woes, few of which can be described on a family Web site. Seinfeld has nothing on Sex and the City when it comes to shallow, self-absorbed characters or coining catch phrases. Episode 2, for example, introduces the term "modelizer": a guy who is obsessed with and will only date models. Some may accuse this series of male bashing. But women, after years of enduring shows with "men behaving badly," will relish the equal time. Some may blanch at the ladies' graphic language and ribald humor, or dismiss some of the situations as unrealistic (Carrie doesn't bat an eye when she discovers that an artist friend surreptitiously videotapes his sexual conquests). Still others will view Sex and the City as documentary. Regardless of your view, this groundbreaking series will have you longing for more. --Donald Liebenson
A collection of the entire first season (12 episodes) of the award-winning HBO comedy series that takes an outrageous look at dating, mating, and relating in New York City.

"So," Tony Soprano asks analyst Dr. Melfi in the wake of not-so-dearly-departed Livia's death, "we're probably done here, right?" Sorry, Tone, not by a long shot. Unresolved mother issues are the least of the Family man's troubles in the brutal and controversial third season of The Sopranos. Ranked by TV Guide among the top five greatest series ever, The Sopranos justified its eleven-month hiatus with some of its best, and most hotly debated, episodes that continue the saga of the New Jersey mob boss juggling the pressures of his often intersecting personal and professional lives. The third season garnered 22 Emmy nominations, earning Lead Actor and Actress honors for James Gandolfini and Edie Falco for their now-signature roles as Tony and his increasingly conflicted wife, Carmela. The Sopranos continued to upend convention and defy audience expectations with a deliberately paced, calm-before-the-storm season opener that revolves around the FBI's attempts to bug the Soprano household, and a season finale that (for some) frustratingly leaves several plot lines unresolved. The second episode, "Proshai, Livushka," confronts the death of the venerable Nancy Marchand, who capped her career with perhaps her greatest role as malignant matriarch Livia. A jarring scene between Tony and Livia that uses pre-existing footage is a distraction, but Carmela's unsparing smackdown of Livia at the wake redeems the episode. "Employee of the Month," in which Dr. Melfi is raped and considers whether to exact revenge by telling Tony of her attack, earned Emmys for its writers, and is perhaps Emmy nominee Lorraine Bracco's finest hour. The darkly comic "Pine Barrens"--another memorable episode, directed by Steve Buscemi--strands Paulie (Tony Sirico) and Christopher (Michael Imperioli) in the forest with a runaway corpse. Other story arcs concern the rise of the seriously unstable Ralph Cifaretto (Joe Pantoliano) and Tony's affair with "full-blown loop-de-loo" Gloria (Emmy nominee Annabella Sciorra). Plus, there is Tony's estrangement from daughter Meadow (Jamie Lynn Sigler), his wayward delinquent son Anthony, Jr. (Robert Iler), Carmela's crisis of conscience, bad seed Jackie Jr., and the FBI--which, as the season ends, assigns an undercover agent to befriend an unwitting figure in the Soprano family's orbit. Stay tuned for season four. --Donald Liebenson
Some suburban households have two cars. Some have two houses. But Tony Soprano has two families. This could be why the FBI is going to such lengths to wiretap his home. Why the son of his dear late friend Jackie Aprile is causing him such agita. Why a Russian housekeeper is searching for her missing leg. Why his son is vandalizing school property and his daughter is getting her heart broken. Why his wife Carmela is both consulting a psychiatrist and confessing to a priest. And it's also why Tony Soprano is still seeing Dr. Melfi for his anxiety attacks. It isn't easy heading-up the mob in New Jersey. But that's what puts dinner on the table for the two families of Tony Soprano.

Here are some more information for Hbo Series:

When you get a satellite TV subscription and start to look around at your options, you'll see which networks have the hot lineups. Before too long, you are going to hit on HBO and the fantastic HD lineup. They've got the most legendary series of all time to their credit (The Sopranos), plus newer hits like Big Love and the quirky series Flight of the Conchords. These days, there are so many new hits taking their place that the time has come to check on the network.
1. Hard Knocks '10. One of the hot new rivalries has sprung up between the Jets and the Patriots. Tom Brady may or may not hate the team, the New England coach may or may not resent his upstart protégé who commands the Jets and so on. HBO has stepped into the mix at the right time with this series about Gang Green. They've got the loudmouth players, a Page Six worthy quarterback and a great 2010 finish to build on. It's reality TV (sort of) as only a pro football team can do.
2. Hung. While the title might tell part of the story, there is a lot more to like than the crassness of its premise. Aaron Eckhart is the lead of this series about a good guy who has drifted off into some bad ways. Plenty of moments of hilarity are in store with Eckhart and his female costars, but he's the one under the bright lights. After so many successful movies, it's great that this HD series has given him the spotlight.
3. Bored to Death. Jason Schwartzman took the world of cinema by storm with his debut in Rushmore; Ted Danson was on top of the world with Cheers back in the day; Zach Galifianakis made his splash with The Hangover. Why not pull these three wild cards together for a series about a writer who's a wannabe Private Eye about town? That's exactly what Bored to Death is all about and it's a lot of fun.
4. Eastbound and Down. As if there were not enough fascination with sports in general and baseball in particular, HBO has fired a great new series into the mix. It follows different stories of minor league ballplayers, with a fireballing, mullet wearing pitcher as one of its key points of focus. If you have no idea what this part of the sport is all about, you'll love the new series that HBO has put into the mix.
5. True Blood. If vampire flicks and series are going to become less popular, it's rather unclear when and how that would happen. True Blood is HBO's HD answer to the vampire craze. It doesn't hurt that the cast is beautiful and the script allows for all the action to happen in style. Get your vamp on whenever the mood strikes you. The blood is let every Sunday night on HBO.
Run down your direct TV local channel guide and find out when and where you can catch your favorite shows on HBO. You'll get the most hd TV options with DirecTV.
House Actor Joins Hbo Miniseries
Seasoned, versatile actor, David Morse has played a doctor, detective, hostage negotiator, corrections officer and now, an American president. As a matter of fact, in his upcoming project, the HBO miniseries, John Adams, Morse will essay the role of America’s first-ever leader.
David Morse, who plays the recurring character of Detective Michael Tritter on the medical drama, House, stars as George Washington alongside Paul Giamatti’s title character, John Adams. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning biography by David McCullough, the series will chronicle the first half-century of the American republic, as told from the perspective of Adams’ wife, Abigail, played by actress Laura Linney. Giamatti, who earned Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for his performances in Sideways and another biographical project, Cinderella Man, will portray the second United States president during his time as a Massachusetts lawyer working in the background to incite the revolt of the colonies.
The seven-part miniseries has begun filming in several key locations, including Colonel Williamsburg’s Historic Area in Virginia. The project, which has reportedly already raked in over $60 million for the state, has elicited increased awareness and interest in American history, provided a welcome economic boost and has helped promote tourism.
Directed by Tom Hooper, John Adams, which is slated to air in March 2008, is produced by Gary Goetzman, David Coatsworth and double Academy Award winner, Tom Hanks. Aside from Giamatti, Linney and House’s David Morse, the biographical tele-movie also features Stephen Dillane as Thomas Jefferson, Rufus Sewell as Alexander Hamilton and Justin Theroux as John Hancock.
Apart from John Adams, David Morse will also be seen in the movie, Passengers, also scheduled to open sometime next year. He recently appeared in Disturbia, which fared incredibly well at the box office and held its own against the third installment of Spiderman. On television, Morse previously starred in the series, Hack, prior to working on House.

Where can I find the music list/soundtrack for the HBO series Eastbound & Down?
I can only seem to find music for movies; there are only about 5 episodes in this season, and there's one particular song that plays in almost every episode (it sounds like elevator music) so i wouldn't think it would be this hard to find. Any ideas of where I could possibly find a list of music played on the show? Thanks
Have you tried asking this in the Music Section yet? They might know there.
