All 23 episodes from the series's second season--including "Days of Shine and Roses," "Road Pirates," "Find Loretta Lynn," "Return of the Ridge Raiders," and "Southern Comfurts"--are featured in a four-disc set. 19 hrs. total. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English, French, Spanish; documentary. **23 episodes on 4 discs. 19 hrs.**

The Dukes of Hazzard settled into a comfortable run in season 2. The show, originally shot on location in Covington, Georgia, was now permanently produced on a backlot in Burbank, California. While a couple of cast members (Ben Jones, who plays mechanic Cooter Davenport, and James Best, who portrays Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane) briefly boycotted the series in its second year (ushering in a parade of brief replacements, including Mickey Jones of the New Christy Minstrels, Dick Sargent of Bewitched, and James Hampton of F Troop), the actors relaxed into their now thoroughly cartoonish characters. What else can one say: The General Lee, the souped-up '69, orange Dodge Charger that belongs to cousins Bo (John Schneider) and Luke (Tom Wopat) Duke, has a full tank and is ready to ride. The Duke boys, scions of a proud--though reformed--moonshining family, are still on probation with the law but continue to root out the criminal schemes of diminutive villain Boss Hogg (Sorrell Brooke) and his Wile E. Coyote-like lackey, Sheriff Coltrane. Uncle Jesse (Denver Pyle) is still a fount of grizzled wisdom as well as Boss Hogg's old whiskey-running nemesis. Cousin Daisy (Catherine Bach) still burns up the road with her short-shorts, and Coltrane's deputies Enos (Sonny Shroyer) and Cletus (Rick Hurst) remain idiots with an edge of sympathy. Season 2 highlights include a funny fan favorite called "The Ghost of General Lee" (also co-star Schneider's favorite episode), in which Bo and Luke are assumed to have drowned when their stolen car ends up at the bottom of a pond. Hearing that Boss Hogg plans to blame them anyway for a theft they didn't commit, the Duke boys haunt him and Coltrane with apparitions of the General Lee as a "ghost." NASCAR legend Cale Yarborough makes an appealing guest in a story about the development of a secret turbo charger and Hogg's effort to steal it, while Loretta Lynn turns up as herself in a damsel-in-distress tale, featuring the country superstar as a kidnapped hostage. "Witness for the Persecution" introduces a recurring theme on Dukes: Occasions in which the vile Hogg must be protected from his enemies by hiding out with (gasp) the Dukes. The best of The Complete Second Season, however, may be "Days of Shine and Roses," in which Hogg and Uncle Jesse, after watching a film of their old moonshine-delivery exploits with the Ridge Runners Association, get into an argument about who was best and decide to resolve the question with a grudge race. Special features include Wopat and Schneider's screen tests, and a documentary about the Dukes' 25th anniversary festival in Tennessee, featuring series stars and stunt drivers. --Tom Keogh

The Dukes of Hazzard Two Movie Collection (Reunion! / Hazzard in Hollywood) The Dukes of Hazzard Two Movie Collection (Reunion! / Hazzard in Hollywood)
List Price: $24.98
Sale Price: $4.86

The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion! (1997) finds Bo (John Schneider) and Luke (Tom Wopat) back behind the wheel of the General Lee, employing some good ol' boy charm and daredevil driving to thwart a plan to drain Hazzard Swamp and open a theme park. Catherine Bach, Denver Pyle, Sonny Shroyer co-star. Next, the Duke cousins (Wopat, Schneider) help raise money to build a hospital by getting into the music business, but will their Southern-fried sass sell in Tinseltown? "The Dukes of Hazzard: Hazzard in Hollywood" (2000) co-stars Bach, James Best, Ben Jones. 178 min. total. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital Surround stereo; Subtitles: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French.

The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion! (1997) revels in all the basic pleasures of this classic good ol' boy TV series: fast cars, bar fights, police cars colliding in midair, and pretty girls who bend over a lot in cutoff shorts. Almost the whole cast reunites--Bo Duke (John Schneider) has become a racecar pilot; Luke Duke (Tom Wopat) has become a smoke jumper; and Daisy Duke (Catherine Bach) has become a motorcycle-riding PhD in ecology. Along for the ride are Cooter (Ben Jones), who's become a congressman, Enos (Sonny Shroyer), who's become an L.A. police detective, and Uncle Jesse (Denver Pyle), who's just the same ornery old coot he ever was. A wily con woman named Mama Jo Max (Stella Stevens, star of the original Nutty Professor and the original Poseidon Adventure) has teamed up with Sheriff Rosco (James Best) to turn the beloved local swamp into a theme park, and the Duke boys agree to drive the General Lee (the show's trademark red Dodge Charger, which was more popular than the human stars) in a race to protect the endangered land. Naturally, there are double-crosses on top of double-crosses and all the down-home high jinks you could ask for. Written by the creator of the original show, Reunion! doesn't have a lot of surprises, but who watches The Dukes of Hazzard for surprises? This is comfort television, pure and simple, and fans of the show will take plenty of comfort. However, the less said about Hazzard in Hollywood (2000), the better. This hodgepodge of contrived plotting, clumsy dialogue, and inane supporting characters hoped to revive the franchise with a new recurring villain to replace the late, lamented Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke), but the results are dismal--which only highlights how successfully Reunion! captures the flavor of the original show. --Bret Fetzer

With so many dangers present in the act of driving a motor vehicle, it is hard to accept the fact that the roadway itself might constitute an undue hazard. The unfortunate fact of the matter, however, is that there are many points in our road system where negligent construction or maintenance of a highway creates just such a risk. Accidents caused by roadway defects can leave a driver and his or her passengers suffering from serious physical injuries and accordingly in need of extensive medical attention.

The financial burden that this and other damages can cast upon an accident victim's shoulders can be too much to bear, even with the aid of a successful insurance claim. Fortunately, in some cases it may be possible and appropriate to file a civil lawsuit seeking financial compensation from the negligent municipal agency or other party that was responsible for ensuring that the road was in an adequate state of repair for public use.

Roadway Defects That One Might Encounter

In the immediate aftermath of a car accident, it may be difficult to appreciate both the full extent of the harm done and the most directly proximate cause of the wreck. A careful investigation and review of the circumstances by a skilled and experienced attorney can help you to identify the degree of liability that a municipal agency may hold. It may be possible to recover financial compensation for medical bills, car repairs, lost wages, and other considerations if your crash was caused by:

  • Potholes
  • Shoulder drop-off
  • Uneven lanes
  • Lack of guardrails
  • Bridge collapse
  • Water pooling
  • Objects in the roadway
  • Lack of signs

The Dukes of Hazzard: Still a Big Favorite

Who hasn't had a crush on Daisy Duke, or on one of her cousins? Sexy men, a beautiful and feisty girl, great car with an iconic horn, and a rebel yell all stirred together made one of the campiest shows on television something great.

Yankees do not understand this. The plots were lame, the villainous Boss Hogg like a cardboard cutout, and the basic idea behind the show was one big car chase interspersed with a moonshine still, sexy girls in daisy dukes shorts, and tricked law enforcement officials. It should have been lame as a three-legged mule. Yet it wasn't, not to the redneck.

Start with the name: Dukes. The name brings many things to mind: John Wayne, the Duke, a royal family member, or even the Duke of Bilgewater in Huckleberry Finn. But in the end, you have redneck royalty: a stick-together family filled with life and energy, an unbeatable car (that could run shine or kick butt on Nascar as easy as it outran the law), a patriarch who made moonshine, and a villainous overlord to fight.

It also, if you look at it right, is a retelling of an old story that is much loved in the South: Robin Hood. Think about it: the Dukes of Hazzard used a compound bow, they were always running from and outsmarting the sheriff, and though they didn't have a king to put in place (unless you count Uncle Jesse, who certainly would work), they were always fighting Boss Hogg, who is a perfect analogy for Prince John Lackland.

It is also a ton of fun to watch. The South was built on moonshine in a lot of ways; it helped many families endure hard times. During prohibition, the refusal of many 'shine makers to quit selling liquor may have been the foundation of the South's new rising. The fast cars that ran 'shine became a Southern tradition too, with their mechanics and drivers the Robin Hood heroes of the good ol' boy, eventually morphing into Nascar teams. Watching OUR boys winning against a clear bad guy, and often against carpetbagger clones, was thrilling and pride-inspiring. Where do we have its equivalent in today's television?

Anyway, the show was canceled in 1985, and the movie, though Jessica Simpson looked mighty nice in those Daisy Dukes, did not live up to the show. But the Dukes are not dead.

Although the show was set in fictitional Hazzard County, Georgia, you can look in Hazard, Kentucky, for the living embodiments of Boss Hogg and Roscoe P. Coltrane, a fleet of 1969 Dodge Chargers, and plenty of Daisy Dukes and their admirers. This tiny mining town is tucked way up in the Appalachians close to the Cumberland Gap, but it's worth driving out for their Black Gold Festival (named for the coal mined in the region) in late September. Citizens of Hazard used to dress like the characters, all the way to the mayor dressing like Boss Hogg in fat suit and everything. They still have a great street rod show, with lots of General Lees, and cast members from the show are known to show up.

Or look on Amazon and eBay. There's a hot economy around buying and selling Dukes memorabilia, from model cars to the hard-to-find reunion movies. If you can't pick up the movies, you can get boxed sets of the first seasons of the Dukes of Hazzard. The show will look great on your big screen, and you'll get a chance to see the General Lee hovering giant-size over your couch if you have one of the really big plasmas.

The Daisy Dukes, on the other hand, will look really nice on your girl as she sits and watches the show with you. Remember, girls: Daisy Dukes never go out of style.

What did the cast of Dukes of Hazzard (the series) think of the movie?

To be honest I don't know the answer but I belive about half the people in the Series is dead but I want to say I read the ones alive didn't care for it. Now I never really seen the series but the movie even had me confused cause I knew Boss Hog was supose to have a big belly amoung other things for outher characters.... Oh and the funny thing is they almost had Anthony Anderson play Boss and Paul Walker and Ashton Kutcher were considered to play the Duke boys..Jessica Simpson, who plays Daisy Duke, beat out Britney Spears, Mandy Moore and Jessica Biel for the role.Dolly Parton was offered the role of Pauline (according to Jessica Simpson) but turned it down.
