Roger Waters - In the Flesh (Live) Roger Waters - In the Flesh (Live)
List Price: $11.98
Sale Price: $7.45

The always-innovative Roger Waters has been captivating critics and audiences alike with his psychedelic songcraft since co-founding Pink Floyd in 1965. This concert experience serves as an overview of Waters' career, featuring both classic Floyd material and selections from his acclaimed solo work. Includes performances of "Wish You Were Here," "Amused to Death," "Comfortably Numb," and more. 170 min. Standard; Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, PCM stereo; Subtitles: English; documentary; photo gallery.

Recorded on a single night in June 2000, In the Flesh: Live is a thrilling live testament to the strength of Roger Waters's peculiar artistic vision. Backed by a crack ensemble of both fresh and seasoned players, the former Pink Floyd songsmith powers through Floyd classics, underserved relics, and highlights from his spotty solo career. The man is in great shape, physically and musically, and he obviously has a blast playing live. What of the axe work? Accept the fact that Waters and Floyd guitarist David Gilmour no longer play together, and you'll appreciate stand-ins Snowy White and Doyle Bramhall II--and the degree to which they honor the parts and solos immortalized by Gilmour. (See the lavish but impersonal Pulse for a healthy dose of Gilmour's Floyd.) The Dolby Digital 5.1 surround mix is massive, presenting both the music's inherent spaciousness and the favorable acoustics in Portland, Oregon's Rose Garden Arena. The DVD's 18-minute documentary is long on downtime and short on musical interplay. Any way you cut it, though, this is a must for Floyd fans and a real treat for lovers of arty, intelligent rock. --Michael Mikesell

Let It Be... Naked Let It Be... Naked
List Price: $18.98
Sale Price: $10.88

Re-recorded, remixed, overdubbed and repackaged--all before its 1970 American release, mind you--Let It Be has long been the most second-guessed album in the Beatles otherwise sterling catalog. This curious, three-decade-late, stripped-down rethink offers up yet another spin on what started as a back-to-the-roots album/documentary project called Get Back in January, 1969, but ended up as the band's de facto swan song 18 months later. Paul McCartney in particular has long been irked by producer Phil Spector's grandiose orchestra and choir overdubs to the title track and "The Long and Winding Road," and indeed the "bare" versions here have a distinct, plaintive charm lacking in Spector's typical pomp. All the various snippets of studio and live chatter that seasoned the original have been removed, leaving the recordings to be judged on their essentially live-in-the-studio merits. If the intent was to "de-Spectorize" the album, the inclusion of John Lennon's 1968 benefit track "Across the Universe" and George Harrison's "I Me Mine" (which marked the last-ever Beatles session in January, 1970) in their original versions seems equally odd, the legendary producer having appended them to the album's original track listing in the first place. The rambling "bonus disc" of conversation and song snippets culled from hundreds of hours of session and film tapes may fascinate diehard fans, but it also underscores the murky, often unfocused state of affairs the Fabs found themselves in during the last year of their remarkable career. --Jerry McCulley

At a time when too many animated films consist of anthropomorphized animals cracking sitcom one-liners and flatulence jokes, the warmth, originality, humor, and unflagging imagination of Up feel as welcome as rain in a desert. Carl Fredericksen (voice by Ed Asner) ranks among the most unlikely heroes in recent animation history. A 78- year-old curmudgeon, he enjoyed his modest life as a balloon seller because he shared it with his adventurous wife Ellie (Ellie Docter). But she died, leaving him with memories and the awareness that they never made their dream journey to Paradise Falls in South America. When well-meaning officials consign Carl to Shady Oaks Retirement Home, he rigs thousands of helium balloons to his house and floats to South America. The journey's scarcely begun when he discovers a stowaway: Russell (Jordan Nagai), a chubby, maladroit Wilderness Explorer Scout who's out to earn his Elderly Assistance Badge. In the tropical jungle, Carl and Russell find more than they bargained for: Charles Muntz (Christopher Plummer), a crazed explorer whose newsreels once inspired Carl and Ellie; Kevin, an exotic bird with a weakness for chocolate; and Dug (Bob Peterson), an endearingly dim golden retriever fitted with a voice box. More importantly, the travelers discover they need each other: Russell needs a (grand)father figure; Carl needs someone to enliven his life without Ellie. Together, they learn that sharing ice-cream cones and counting the passing cars can be more meaningful than feats of daring-do and distant horizons. Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc. ) and Bob Peterson direct the film with consummate skill and taste, allowing the poignant moments to unfold without dialogue to Michael Giacchnio's vibrant score. Building on their work in The Incredibles and Ratatouille, the Pixar crew offers nuanced animation of the stylized characters. Even by Pixar's elevated standards, Up is an exceptional film that will appeal of audiences of all ages. Rated PG for some peril and action. --Charles SolomonStills from Up (Click for larger image)

Wall-E (Two-Disc Edition + BD Live) [Blu-ray] Wall-E (Two-Disc Edition + BD Live) [Blu-ray]
List Price: $35.99
Sale Price: $17.90

Features include: •MPAA Rating: G•Format: Blu-Ray•Runtime: 98 minutes

Pixar genius reigns in this funny romantic comedy, which stars a robot who says absolutely nothing for a full 25 minutes yet somehow completely transfixes and endears himself to the audience within the first few minutes of the film. As the last robot left on earth, Wall-E (voiced by Ben Burtt) is one small robot--with a big, big heart--who holds the future of earth and mankind squarely in the palm of his metal hand. He's outlasted all the "Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class" robots that were assigned some 700 years ago to clean up the environmental mess that man made of earth while man vacationed aboard the luxury spaceship Axiom. Wall-E has dutifully gone about his job compacting trash, the extreme solitude broken only by his pet cockroach, but he's developed some oddly human habits and ideas. When the Axiom sends its regularly scheduled robotic EVE probe (Elissa Knight) to earth, Wall-E is instantly smitten and proceeds to try to impress EVE with his collection of human memorabilia. EVE's directive compels her to bring Wall-E's newly collected plant sprout to the captain of the Axiom and Wall-E follows in hot pursuit. Suddenly, the human world is turned upside down and the Captain (Jeff Garlin) joins forces with Wall-E and a cast of other misfit robots to lead the now lethargic people back home to earth. Wall-E is a great family film with the most impressive aspect being the depth of emotion conveyed by a simple robot--a machine typically considered devoid of emotion, but made so absolutely touching by the magic of Pixar animation. Also well-worth admiring are the sweeping views from space, the creative yet disturbing vision of what strange luxuries a future space vacation might offer, and the innovative use of trash in a future cityscape. Underneath the slapstick comedy and touching love story is a poignant message about the folly of human greed and its potential effects on earth and the entire human race. Wall-E is preceded in theaters by the comical short Presto in which a magician's rabbit, unfed one too many times takes his revenge against the egotistical magician. Pixar Short Films Collection: Volume 1 [Blu-ray] Pixar Short Films Collection: Volume 1 [Blu-ray]

Pixar's unprecedented string of hit animated features was built on the short films in this collection. John Lasseter and Ed Catmull used these cartoons the way Walt Disney used the "Silly Symphonies" during the 1930s: as a training ground for artists and a way to explore the potential of a new medium. Although it's only 90 seconds long, "Luxo, Jr." (1986) ranks as the "Steamboat Willie" of computer animation: For the first time, audiences believed CG characters could think and feel. (It was also the first CG film to make audiences laugh.) When the artists began work on Toy Story, they had learned so much from the shorts, they were ready to undertake that landmark creation. In the later shorts, the viewer can see the artists continuing to experiment: with a more realistic human figure in "Geri's Game" and with new ways of suggesting atmospheric effects in "Boundin'." Some of the more recent shorts continue the adventures of the characters from the features. "Jack-Jack Attack" reveals what happened to the hapless baby-sitter while the Incredibles were off fighting Syndrome, while "Mater and the Ghost Light" shows that life goes on for the inhabitants of Radiator Springs. When Sully from Monsters, Inc. tries to adjust his seat in "Mike's New Car," the animators prolong the moment to wring every drop of humor from the situation--just as an earlier generation of animators milked Wile E. Coyote's antics for all they were worth. The long-unseen films for Sesame Street are an unexpected bonus. A delightful collection of entertaining shorts, and a significant chronicle of the growth of computer animation. (Rated G: suitable for all ages: cartoon violence) --Charles Solomon

Here are some more information for Game Wall:
Game Wall

A while back, GameDaily created a list of the best SNES games ever created.  They titled this list, "Playing With Power: The 25 Best SNES Games of All Time".  I went through the list to see what SNES games they had on there, what order they were in, and which games didn't make their list.  Obviously, these types of lists will vary largely with the creator of the list.  Here is my commentary on their list.

At one through five GameDaily had, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, The Legend of Zelda: A Link To the Past, Chrono Trigger, and Super Castlevania IV.  The first five on the list were pretty solid, although I'm not sure if Super Castlevania IV should be this high up on the list.  I'm also surprised that there isn't a Final Fantasy game in the top five.

At six through ten, there were Super Mario Kart, Street Fighter II Turbo, Final Fantasy III, Contra III: The Alien Wars, and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.  This was also a pretty solid grouping.  However, I would like to see FFIII higher up in the overall rankings.  Also, I personally am not a big fan of Super Mario World 2, so not only would I not have it listed this highly, I might not even have it on this list.

Coming in the next batch at eleven through fifteen, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Donkey Kong Country, Super Punch-Out!!, Madden NFL '94, and Actraiser.  This section was more clustered than the first two.  I'm okay with Donkey Kong, Super Punch-Out, and Madden being up here, but I don't think Zombies Ate My Neighbors should be up this high.  And, I've never really figured out where Actraiser fits well in the grand scheme of things.

In sixteen through twenty we have Pilotwings, Mario Paint, Demon's Crest, Super Star Wars, and Batman Returns.  With the exception of Pilotwings, I didn't play any of these games.  I assume I would like Super Star Wars and Batman Returns just because of their characters and storyline.  Mario Paint I could definitely do without and would not put on my personal top twenty-five list.  Demon's Crest... meh.

And last in twenty-one through twenty-five we have Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles In Time, StarFox, Blackthorne, and Prince of Persia.  This group actually contains my favorite game of all time from that period, TMNT IV: Turtles In Time.  I loved this game in the arcade and for the SNES.  I consider it to be one of the best games from that era and it deservedly makes it into the list.

Overall, GameDaily did a great job at compiling and setting up this list.  It is a difficult thing to do due to the varying opinions that everyone will have about the subject.  I think all twenty-five of these games are pretty good games.  If you want to learn about each game in detail, you should go check out GameDaily's website.  They have great information for old-school and new-school gamers.

The Adventures of James Bomb Game Tips and Review

If you have browsed the web for unique games which provide the best elements of several good games you have played, then you definitively love hybrids. Online games can be quite good at mixing great things together in order to make one great game, this is the case of the Prince of Persia, Frank's Adventures, Alien Carnage and the Maze/War hybrid called "The adventures of James bomb" As the name implies, the game is based on a guy called James who is a specialist in bombs.

James is placed on a maze which is divided by concrete walls as well as wooden walls which can be blasted away using bombs, behind these fake walls there are many bonuses which vary according to the level you are in, during the first level you may find a red bomb which indicates you are now able to detonate bombs which are far more powerful than the ones you had, the only thing you should remember is that since the explosions are far stronger you should get away fast in order to avoid blasting yourself.

Another bonus is a set of 3 bombs which increases the damage you can inflict by detonating bombs, there are other items which you will find as you advance from level to level such as diamonds which provides you extra lifes, other bonuses may even help you power down your bombs so you don't blast yourself. Invincible shields can be found behind those walls as well. Besides counting with some serious blasting power you have to avoid several enemies which act like the enemies you find in Pacman, these ghosts and monsters roam around the maze and are out to get you, some of the bad ones can even walk across the wooden walls as if there was nothing there so beware of those ghost-like monsters.

You can blast any monster with your bombs. Once you have blasted all the wooden walls and avoided being killed by the monsters you can advance to the next level which will be harder than the first. As you advance new bonuses and bomb types are revealed to you and the number of ghosts, piranhas and monsters increases. If you want to stay alive and have a little insurance for the times you get killed you need to make sure you grab the diamonds as they give you extra lives. Blast all the monsters away and have fun!
