Celine Dion's history-making residence at Caesars Palace is captured for posterity in this fantastic concert performance from the Canadian pop diva. With live versions of "A New Day Has Come," "The Power of Love," "It's All Coming Back to Me Now," "To Love You More," "I Drove All Night," "I Wish," "My Heart Will Go On," and more. Also includes an assortment of behind-the-scenes documentaries. 5 hrs. total. Widescreen; Soundtracks: English Dolby True HD 5.1, Dolby Digital 5.1, PCM stereo.
If you were one of the handful of folks who missed Céline Dion's mega-run in Las Vegas, fear not: Céline Dion: A New Day is a riveting, sumptuous front-row seat to the whole extravagant experience. As concert DVDs go, this is a show of a lifetime, nearly six hours featuring not only no-expenses-spared production values and every song from Dion's famed show, but priceless extras as well. Dion's substantial voice is in fine form, and sparkles on signature tunes like "A New Day Has Come," "The Power of Love," and of course the theme from Titanic, "My Heart Will Go On" (and Dion-watchers will note that she's thankfully dialed back the breast-beating that used to accompany this song). But as impressive as the performances are--and they include the talented gymnasts, dancers, and backup singers who work as a Cirque du Soleil-style ensemble--the set's most memorable moments are found in the personal footage and extras. Dion comes across as truly humble and approachable, with a wicked sense of humor and real compassion for her hard-working staff and her fans. There are sweet, intimate moments of Dion with her husband and son, as well as telling scenes that show her true resourcefulness (girlfriend does her own makeup!). The many docs include one on the building of her special theater and the building of the show from the ground up. "If you're going to gamble," says Dion's manager and husband, René Angélil, "Vegas is the place to do it." Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner. --A.T. Hurley

Leonardo DiCaprio (Actor), Kate Winslet (Actor) | Rated: PG-13 | Format: VHS Tape
When the theatrical release of James Cameron's Titanic was delayed from July to December of 1997, media pundits speculated that Cameron's $200 million disaster epic would cause the director's downfall, signal the end of the blockbuster era, and sink Paramount Studios as quickly as the ill-fated luxury liner had sunk on that fateful night of April 14, 1912. Some studio executives were confident, others horrified, but the clarity of hindsight turned Cameron into an Oscar-winning genius, a shrewd businessman, and one of the most successful directors in the history of motion pictures. Titanic would surpass the $1 billion mark in global box-office receipts (largely due to multiple viewings, the majority by teenage girls), win 11 Academy Awards including best picture and director, produce the best-selling movie soundtrack of all time, and make a global superstar of Leonardo DiCaprio. A bona fide pop-cultural phenomenon, the film has all the ingredients of a blockbuster (romance, passion, luxury, grand scale, a snidely villain, and an epic, life-threatening crisis), but Cameron's alchemy of these ingredients proved more popular than anyone could have predicted. His stroke of genius was to combine absolute authenticity with a pair of fictional lovers whose tragic fate would draw viewers into the heart-wrenching reality of the Titanic disaster. As starving artist Jack Dawson and soon-to-be-married socialite Rose DeWitt Bukater, DiCaprio and Kate Winslet won the hearts of viewers around the world, and their brief but never-forgotten love affair provides the humanity that Cameron needed to turn Titanic into an emotional experience. Present-day framing scenes (featuring Gloria Stuart as the 101-year-old Rose) add additional resonance to the story, and although some viewers proved vehemently immune to Cameron's manipulations, few can deny the production's impressive achievements. Although some of the computer-generated visual effects look artificial, others--such as the sunset silhouette of Titanic during its first evening at sea, or the climactic splitting of the ship's sinking hull--are state-of-the-art marvels. In terms of sets and costumes alone, the film is never less than astounding. More than anything else, however, the film's overwhelming popularity speaks for itself. Titanic is an event film and a monument to Cameron's risk-taking audacity, blending the tragic irony of the Titanic disaster with just enough narrative invention to give the historical event its fullest and most timeless dramatic impact. Titanic is an epic love story on par with Gone with the Wind, and like that earlier box-office phenomenon, it's a film for the ages. --Jeff Shannon

Of all the many documentaries that have been made about the Titanic disaster, this two-part, 192-minute film, produced in 1994 for the Arts & Entertainment network, remains the most thorough, authoritative, and fascinating chronicle of the Titanic tragedy. Written, produced, and directed by Melissa Jo Peltier and elegantly narrated by actor David McCallum, the film utilizes thorough research, archival films and documents, and expert testimony to span the entire history of the legendary S.S. Titanic. From blueprint design and construction in Ireland, to the ill-fated maiden voyage and the lasting legacy of Titanic's fateful sinking, no detail has been neglected in the film's meticulous description of events. Part 1, "The Death of a Dream," builds dramatic momentum to the ship's collision with an iceberg in the freezing North Atlantic, including detailed accounts of the agonizing two-hour sinking and the rescue of survivors. Part 2, "The Legend Lives On," explores the investigation into Titanic's sinking, the impact on later ship design and the dramatic rediscovery of Titanic's ghostly remains on the ocean floor. Parts 1 and 2 include abundant interviews with such noted Titanic authorities as Don Lynch and Ken Marschall (consultants on the blockbuster movie Titanic), and several Titanic survivors who have since passed away. The cumulative effect of this detailed film is a complete appreciation for the sheer irony, drama, and magnitude of the Titanic disaster. The James Cameron film was certainly entertaining, but this superior documentary proves that truth can be every bit as absorbing as fictionalized history. It's an essential addition to any Titanic buff's library. --Jeff Shannon
The 4 tapes are as follows: Vol. 1: The largest ship ever built is christened in Ireland before a cheering crowd of 100,000. Vol. 2: Numerous warnings of icebergs go unheeded as the hulking ship cuts through the icy North Atlantic. Vol. 3: Over packed lifeboats edge away from the crippled liner as futile SOS signals flare into the night. Vol. 4: The extraordinary aftermath of the disaster is revealed in a courageous deep sea expedition.

Here's what we had to say about the original theatrical edition of Avatar after seeing it on the big screen:After 12 years of thinking about it (and waiting for movie technology to catch up with his visions), James Cameron followed up his unsinkable Titanic with Avatar, a sci-fi epic meant to trump all previous sci-fi epics. Set in the future on a distant planet, Avatar spins a simple little parable about greedy colonizers (that would be mankind) messing up the lush tribal world of Pandora. A paraplegic Marine named Jake (Sam Worthington) acts through a 9-foot-tall avatar that allows him to roam the planet and pass as one of the Na'vi, the blue-skinned, large-eyed native people who would very much like to live their peaceful lives without the interference of the visitors. Although he's supposed to be gathering intel for the badass general (Stephen Lang) who'd like to lay waste to the planet and its inhabitants, Jake naturally begins to take a liking to the Na'vi, especially the feisty Neytiri (Zoë Saldana, whose entire performance, recorded by Cameron's complicated motion-capture system, exists as a digitally rendered Na'vi). The movie uses state-of-the-art 3D technology to plunge the viewer deep into Cameron's crazy toy box of planetary ecosystems and high-tech machinery. Maybe it's the fact that Cameron seems torn between his two loves--awesome destructive gizmos and flower-power message mongering--that makes Avatar's pursuit of its point ultimately uncertain. That, and the fact that Cameron's dialogue continues to clunk badly. If you're won over by the movie's trippy new world, the characters will be forgivable as broad, useful archetypes rather than standard-issue stereotypes, and you might be able to overlook the unsurprising central plot. (The overextended "take that, Michael Bay" final battle sequences could tax even Cameron enthusiasts, however.) It doesn't measure up to the hype (what could?) yet Avatar frequently hits a giddy delirium all its own. The film itself is our Pandora, a sensation-saturated universe only the movies could create. --Robert Horton Versions of Avatar on Blu-ray and DVD Edition Format Release Date Special Features Avatar (Extended Collector's Edition) Three Blu-ray Discs Nov. 16, 2010 Three versions of the movie including the previously unreleased extended cut, plus more than eight hours of bonus features including over 45 minutes of deleted scenes, interactive scene deconstruction, Pandorapedia, documentaries and featurettes, and BD-LIVE content (requires compatible player and Internet connection) Avatar (Extended Collector's Edition) Three DVDs Nov. 16, 2010 Three versions of the movie including the previously unreleased extended cut, plus more than three hours of bonus features including documentaries and over 45 minutes of deleted scenes Avatar (Original Theatrical Edition) Two-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo Apr. 22, 2010 None Avatar (Original Theatrical Edition) DVD Apr. 22, 2010 None Contents of the Blu-ray Extended Collector's Edition What follows is the back-of-the box summary of the Blu-ray set's contents and then a complete listing of everything that's included. Marvelous adaptation of Jane Austen's novel is set in rural England in the late 18th century, where the Dashwood sisters, Elinor (Emma Thompson), Marianne (Kate Winslet) and Margaret (Emile Francois), experience the joys and hardships of love while living in a cottage owned by their cousins. Alan Rickman, Hugh Grant also star. Thompson's script won an Oscar; Ang Lee directs. 136 min. Widescreen; Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.0, Dolby Digital stereo Surround, Spanish Dolby Digital stereo, Portuguese Dolby Digital stereo; Subtitles: English, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai; audio commentary; deleted scenes; theatrical trailers.
Emma Thompson scores a double bull's-eye with this marvelous adaptation of Jane Austen's novel. Not only does Thompson turn in a strong (and gently humorous) performance as one of the Dashwood sisters--the one with "sense"--she also wrote the witty, wise screenplay. Austen's tale of 19th-century manners and morals provides a large cast with a feast of possibilities, notably Kate Winslet, in her pre-Titanic flowering, as Thompson's deeply romantic sister. Winslet attracts the wooing of shy Alan Rickman (a nice change of pace from his bad-guy roles) and dashing Greg Wise, while Thompson must endure an incredibly roundabout courtship with Hugh Grant, here in fine and funny form. All of this is doled out with the usual eye-filling English countryside and handsome costumes, yet the film always seems to be about the careful interior lives of its characters. The director, an inspired choice, is Taiwan-born Ang Lee, who brings the same exquisite taste and discreet touch he displayed in his previous Asian films (such as Eat Drink Man Woman). Thompson's script won an Oscar, and 1995 was a fine year for Jane Austen all around: Persuasion was made into an excellent picture, and Emma became the spritzy high school comedy Clueless. --Robert Horton

Here are some more information for From Titanic:

In the year 1907, Harland and Wolff was commissioned by White Star Line to build three steam liners. The shipbuilding company, which was located in Belfast, was asked to build state-of-the art ships which would be known for their elegance, style, and safety.
One of the primary designers was Lord James Pirrie, who was a partner at Harland and Wolff. He and J. Bruce Ismay, who was the managing director at White Star Line, were largely responsible for the designing and construction of the steam liners. The first two ships to be commissioned were the infamous Titanic and the Olympic. The Titanic was so named for its large size as well as its luxurious amenities and facilities which were to be contained within the vessel.
After the commission of the steam liners, the construction began for the Titanic in the city of Belfast during the March of 1909. Due to the breadth of the project, the Harland and Wolff shipyards were renovated in order to facilitate this vast project. Additionally, the pier which was utilized by New York's White Star Company was expanded in order to accommodate the new ship into its port.
The size of the ships's hull was so impressive that the piece took more than two years to construct. Due to its size and intended luxury, the steam liner gained a large amount of media attention long before its completion. The final ship weighed 50,000 tons, was over 880 feet long, and had cost about $7.5 million, an exorbitant sum.
At the time of its completion, it was by far the largest steam liner in existence. It set sail on its maiden voyage from Southampton in England on April 10th, 1912 and, after its final stop in Cobh in Ireland, sank on the 14th of April. Over 1,500 lives were lost on that tragic night.
Today, many flights are full of tourists coming to Belfast to take the famous Titanic tour. Every year, visitors come to the hotels in the city to visit the birthplace of the notorious ship. The area of the Titanic Quarter has been largely renovated in recent years, particularly in the light that the 100th anniversary of the Titanic's maiden and tragic voyage is fast approaching. The city is preparing for the event which will certainly bring many visitors to Belfast hotels.
The Titanic Signature Project, which the Northern Ireland Tourist Board has developed, is planning the memorial to the Titanic which will take place in the location where the construction of the ship took place, the Titanic Slipways.
The attractions will include an interactive exhibition and museum which will feature information regarding the history and construction of the Titanic as well as the manner in which the ship sank to the depths of the sea. Visitors will be able to watch a cinematic display of the making of the Titanic as well as dive under the sea to view the wreck that was once the mighty steam liner that was vowed to be "unsinkable".
Sam writes about travel and Hotels. He has also reviewed some Belfast hotels.
Branson Titanic, Worth a Visit
The disastrous fate of the Titanic has entranced, saddened, and entertained generations since the tragedy first happened in 1912. Now, visitors to Branson, Missouri have the chance to explore the ultimate Titanic Museum.
Designed like that fateful yet wondrous ship, Branson Titanic is 17,000 square feet and was developed as more than just an attraction; the Museum is a memorial to those who perished when the Titanic sank.
The Branson Titanic is known by the name,"Titanic: The Legend Continues". It has many artifacts from the Titanic including hundreds that have never been released for public viewing before. Essentially, the Branson Titanic will allow visitors the opportunity to see, feel, and experience the Titanic, as they never have before.
There are so many things to see relating to the Titanic, a visit to the museum is essential for anyone traveling to or through Branson. History buffs, Titanic enthusiasts, and schoolchildren will all learn something by going to this museum. However, a visit is recommended for nearly anyone no matter where his/he interests lie.
The next time you travel to the Branson area, check out the museum. It offers a beautiful memorial wall. The wall has etchings upon it of the names of all of the passengers and crew aboard the ship.
Other highlights of the attraction include a hard-to-find original menu from this ship (worth $100,000 today) and a display of photographs showing life on the Titanic while it was sailing across the Atlantic. This is the only visual documentation available to show life on the ship, which exists today!
All photographs were taken by Father Francis Browne. Browne was not only a Jesuit Priest, but also a first class passenger of the Titanic.
Additionally, there are over 400 artifacts, which are scattered throughout the attraction. There are several items, which were recovered back in 1912, after the disaster happened.
These items include photographs, items purchased while on board the Titanic, artifacts used by passengers while on the ship, and items passed down from survivors of the tragedy to their relatives and friends. Some examples of artifacts on display are deck chairs, lifejackets, menus, dinnerware, personal letters, and jewelry.
The massive size of the Branson Titanic is reminiscent of that great majestic beauty the original Titanic possessed. Branson Titanic has a forecastle nearly 50 feet high, and smokestacks, which rise an impressive 75 feet.
The attraction is owned by Cedar Bay Amusements. The president of Cedar Bay, John Joslyn, wanted this done right, to emulate the real Titanic and provide a scaled replica of the ship.
Your ticket to the attraction will list the name of a real passenger aboard the ship. You will get the chance to explore that passenger's destiny. You can walk through re-constructed versions of the Bridge, Marconi radio room, Verandah Cafe, the Boiler Room, and the Grand Staircase.
Children will love the attraction as they get to view an actual iceberg. In this interactive area, children can send SOS messages and steer the ship around the iceberg. Movie memorabilia is also available from all of the Titanic films including the 1997 Oscar-winning, Titanic, directed by James Cameron.
You can go on a 90-minute tour of the ship. As you enter the attraction, you must walk through the "iceberg", which is located in the exact area where the iceberg hit the Titanic. You will not want to miss the chance to sit in a lifeboat while you listen to tales of survival concerning passengers on the Titanic.
You can follow the grand staircase down to third class from first class and see two ships so historically perfect and nearly identical to the real Titanic (includes James Cameron's 26-foot version of the bow used in the hit movie and an 18-foot version of the ship).
Other features include a rare pair of shoes and a dress from 1912 that were created by designer Lucy "Lady Duff" Gordon (who was a first class passenger on the Titanic), a scaled Titanic propeller (you can stand beside the huge propeller it is so big) and reconstructed rooms.
The Branson Titanic is wheelchair accessible. This ship is one attraction you will not want to miss, whether you intended to stay in Branson or not. If you love the Titanic, "Titanic: The Legend Continues" is a necessary stop on your next vacation to Branson, Missouri.
