Stephen Sondheim's Follies in Concert Stephen Sondheim's Follies in Concert
List Price: $24.98
Sale Price: $10.69

A stellar array of artists gathered at Lincoln Center to salute composer Stephen Sondheim, and the complete spectacle is on video! See Lee Remick, Mandy Patinkin, George Hearn, Carol Burnett, Andre Gregory, Elaine Stritch and others in a memorable evening of song and dance. 90 min. Standard; Soundtrack: English 5.1; song access.

Follies in Concert: Four Days in New York provides a backstage look at a genuine Broadway event, the 1985 concert performance of Stephen Sondheim's 1971 Broadway musical Follies. A star-studded roster is backed by the New York Philharmonic, featuring principals Barbara Cook, Mandy Patinkin, Lee Remick, and George Hearn, supported by the likes of Carol Burnett, Liliane Montevecchi, Elaine Stritch, and Liz Callaway. Unfortunately, this 90-minute documentary only includes about 47 minutes of actual concert footage--ironic because the purpose of the concert was to record the whole score after the original Broadway cast recording had omitted or shortened many songs. Still, what's here is not to be missed. Sondheim's musical brilliantly captures the memories and heartache of a long-lost era and the performers who embodied it. At a reunion of the fictional musical revue The Weismann Follies, the long-retired players relive their careers through pastiches of past songwriters, sometimes accompanied in song or dance by the ghosts of their previous selves. At the same time, four of the people (two married couples) remember their pasts and wonder whether they chose their spouses--and the course of their lives--correctly. This film includes glimpses of the rehearsals and comments from the actors and Sondheim himself that lend depth and insight to the production. And even if only about half of the actual concert is represented, the closing "Loveland" sequence is almost complete, and "Who's That Woman (The Mirror Song)?", though heavily edited, does provide some sense of the choreography. --David Horiuchi

Sondheim! The Birthday Concert [Blu-ray] Sondheim! The Birthday Concert [Blu-ray]
List Price: $29.98
Sale Price: $15.76

Recorded over the course of two days at New York City's Avery Hall, this concert was held in honor of Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday. Along with material from such legendary Sondheim works as "West Side Story," "Sweeney Todd," "Company," and "Sunday in the Park with George," the program includes performances by Bernadette Peters, David Hyde Pierce, Elaine Stritch, Mandy Patinkin, Patti LuPone, and more. 116 min. Widescreen; Soundtracks: English DTS HD 5.1 Master Audio, PCM stereo.

Sondheim! The Birthday Concert is a historic tribute to the Broadway work of Stephen Sondheim that took place in New York's Avery Fisher Hall in March 2010. That's 25 years after a similar all-star concert, Follies in Concert, was held in the same venue, also with Paul Gemignani conducting the New York Philharmonic, and the song list and parade of stars seems intended to evoke those memories. But rather than re-creating one show, this concert hosted by David Hyde Pierce celebrates three decades of work in honor of the composer's 80th birthday. It starts a bit slowly, with some songs for which Sondheim wrote only the lyrics, but even that offers something "new": an unfamiliar song from Hot Spot (music by Mary Rodgers) called "Don't Laugh," performed by Victoria Clark. From there the concert shifts into high gear with Sondheim's shows from the '70s and '80s. Three songs from Follies are covered by a young generation of talent (Jenn Colella, Matt Cavenaugh, Bobby Steggert, Laura Osnes), by Audra McDonald and opera star Nathan Gunn, and by original cast member John McMartin. That's followed by some thrilling reunions: Joanna Gleason and Chip Zien's "It Takes Two" from Into the Woods, Jim Walton with a song he didn't sing in Merrily We Roll Along ("Growing Up"), Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters with "Finishing the Hat" and "Move On" from Sunday in the Park with George, and Patti LuPone with two different Sweeney Todds--George Hearn and Michael Cerveris. Six "ladies in red" sing solos--LuPone's "The Ladies Who Lunch," Marin Mazzie's "Losing My Mind," McDonald's "The Glamorous Life," Donna Murphy's "Could I Leave You," Peters's "Not a Day Goes By," and Elaine Stritch's "I'm Still Here"--before hundreds of currently working actors flood the theater and sing "Sunday" to emotionally overwhelm the guest of honor. Since none of the shows represented were written later than the '80s (Passion is not represented, though its two female leads are, nor is Assassins), it's safe to say that this combination of songs sung by so many original stars will never be repeated. --David Horiuchi

Jumpin' Jack Flash [VHS] Jumpin' Jack Flash [VHS]
List Price: $9.98
Sale Price: $3.25

Whoopi Goldberg (The Color Purple) gives one of her earliest and finest film performances as Terry Doolittle, a computer programmer who unwittingly becomes embroiled in an international espionage scheme, forced to outmaneuver the CIA and KGB in this riotous 1986 Cold War comedy. Doolittle, the outspoken and irreverent employee of an international bank, is working overtime one evening when her terminal receives an encrypted message pleading for help from Jumpin' Jack Flash, code name for a British spy (Jonathan Pryce) trapped in Eastern Europe. At first reluctantly and then audaciously, Doolittle becomes privy to his predicament and essential to his escape while delivering a steady stream of ribald one-liners and witty slapstick—whether it's her Mick Jagger impersonation, police station meltdown, or infamous dress-caught-in-the-paper-shredder escapade at the British Consulate ball. A host of supporting talent includes Annie Potts, Jon Lovitz, Jim Belushi, the late Phil Hartman, and Stephen Collins (who shines as Marty, the mole), yet the film belongs to Whoopi. Though the plot is far-fetched and often flimsy, Penny Marshall (in her directorial debut) gives Goldberg enough latitude to showcase her immense talent in a role she obviously relishes—and audiences will too. Rated R for extreme profanity and mature themes. --Lynn Gibson

Everybody's favorite talking Chihuahuas are back in Disney's Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2, the comedy that's a pack of outrageous fun for the whole family. Puppy mayhem turns the lives of newlywed Chihuahua parents Papi and Chloe upside down when their rambunctious, mischievous puppies present one challenge after another. But when their human owners end up in trouble, the tiny pups will stop at nothing to save them - because in good times and hard times, the family always sticks togeth

Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 is all about the power of love and family--and talking Chihuahuas, of course. In this sequel to Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Chloe and Papi have just been married in grand style, and they close their celebration by wishing upon a falling star. Four months later, the two are happily adjusting to their new roles as proud parents--something that's not such an easy task for Papi, who often seems to act more like a sixth puppy than a father, and whose stories of famous historical dogs only seem to get his overexuberant puppies into trouble. Papi's owner Sam has been left in charge of all the dogs, while his girlfriend Rachel and her Aunt Viv travel to the rainforest to do some important research. It looks like life for the new canine family will be all fancy dog parks and cute little doggie outfits until Sam discovers that his parents are facing foreclosure on their home. Sam and his father head to the bank to see what can be done, while Papi's brother Pedro joins forces with Sam, Papi, his pups, and the newly arrived Delgado (who's just shown up on his own important mission) to formulate their own plan to help Sam's parents. One dog show and one bank robbery later, it looks like these financially turbulent times will claim not only Sam's childhood home, but also his relationship with Rachel. In the end, both dogs and humans learn some important lessons about making tough choices, the importance of family and love, and the power of collaboration. Cute talking dogs are always a winner with young viewers and adults will find the film easy enough to sit through, if not particularly compelling. George Lopez returns as Papi, but virtually all the other roles have been recast from the first film: Odette Yustman takes over as Chloe, while Rachel is played by Erin Cahill and Aunt Viv by Susan Blakely. Other popular Disney talents involved in the production include Emily Osment, Madison Pettis, Phill Lewis, Zachary Gordon, and Brian Stepanek. (Ages 6 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

It's hard to believe, but for the first three seasons nobody really knew that Seinfeld was about, well, you know. It wasn't until season 4--unleashed here in a four-disc set that's equal in scope, quality, and quantity of bonus material to its predecessors--that the show really became something. In a series which can claim every installment as classic, the two-parter on disc 1 titled "The Pitch/The Ticket" truly stands out as a defining episode and, in retrospect, marked Seinfeld 4 as the breakthrough season. It's the one where (fake) NBC executives express their interest in working with Jerry Seinfeld on a TV show, then moves to the who's-on-first shtick of George successfully pitching Jerry on creating "a show about nothing." Scattered throughout the discs in commentaries by cast and creators and in numerous "Inside Look" documentaries, nearly everyone expresses some anxiety about the season having a story "arc" depicting Jerry and his "real" life becoming a sitcom. The show had been only marginally successful up to that point anyway, and with the edict, "no hugging, no learning," still in place, maybe messing with nothing was a bad idea. What makes the arc so arch is the self-reflexive way it details the reality of Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David coming up with the concept and pitching it to (real) NBC executives as a show that really was about, well, you know. In one of the many informally informative interview segments, Jerry remembers hitting a stride during this time when a lot of crazy ideas started to make sense. "Everything was just a wild guess," he says, "and it takes a while to get confident that you're guessing pretty good. I think sometime in season 4 we realized we were guessing pretty good." Oh, that we could all be so good at nothing. Season 4 also gave us the episodes "The Bubble Boy" ("He lives in a bubble!"), "The Pick" ("There was no pick!"), and, perhaps most memorably, "The Contest." Recalling how nervous he thought NBC might be about a show based on how long a person can remain--ahem--master of his domain, Larry David says that he kept the idea hidden for a long time. He may have had NBC sweating, but the episode goes by without anyone uttering the word that it's really about. The curmudgeonly David also observes that another famous season 4 episode, "The Outing," only made it on the air due to a network "note" about making sure it wouldn't be offensive to homosexuals. Hence we have the addition of another standard to the Seinfeld lexicon of American pop culture: "Not that there's anything wrong with that!" Not only wasn't there anything wrong with it, the episode won a GLAAD Media Award. Season 4 also brought Seinfeldits first Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series. Stay tuned for season 5 (and a move to the coveted Thursday-at-9 slot) when the volcano we now know was always brewing really blew its comedic top. --Ted Fry

Seinfeld: Season Five Seinfeld: Season Five
List Price: $19.99
Sale Price: $10.18

All 22 fifth-season episodes--including "The Mango," "The Puffy Shirt," "The Lip Reader," "The Marine Biologist," and "The Opposite"--have been collected in a four-disc set. 8 1/3 hrs. total. Standard; Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital stereo, French Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English, French, Portuguese, Spanish; deleted scenes; outtakes; featurettes; audio commentary; more. **22 episodes on 4 discs. 9 hrs.**

The fifth season of Seinfeld is without a doubt the series' best. By their fifth year, the Seinfeld gang had ironed out the bumps from the first two seasons, further developing characters. The loyal fan base that had been accumulating over the years was now more or less the entire nation's viewing audience. The pressure was on to give this new, mega fan base a high dose of their unique, misanthropic comedy, and Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld), George (Jason Alexander), Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and Kramer (Michael Richards) delivered in spades. Yes, other seasons may have funnier individual episodes, but as a whole season five consistently delivers the goods, including many of the show's all-time classic episodes. In the season opener, Jerry discovers the secret, sexual power of "The Mango." While vacationing in "The Hamptons" we not only learn that George's date likes to sunbathe topless in front of his friends, but also that cold water has the power to shrink. In "The Stall' Elaine is rejected while trying to share toilet paper only to learn that the selfish neighbor is Jerry's girlfriend. In order to really make a life change, George decides to do "The Opposite" of all his instincts and surprisingly everything in his life falls perfectly into place. And of course, who can forget the ridiculous puffy shirt Kramer's low-talking girlfriend talks Jerry into wearing on The Today Show. This box set also includes the featurette "Jason+Larry=George" explaining how Jason Alexander embodied Larry David's alter ego to create George Costanza, plus deleted and behind-the-scenes footage and exclusive stand up footage of Jerry Seinfeld. --Rob Bracco

Here are some more information for Elaine George:
Elaine George

Surely there is nothing more frightening in this world than the words, 'starring David Bowie.' Well actually, yes, there probably is, but in the world of cinema few things come closer. Admittedly the Thin White Duke has had his thespian moments, notably as the assassin Colin Morris in 1985's darkly neurotic, spot-the-director movie 'Into The Night.' But beyond that his film successes have been few and far between. Yet even Sir Wooden couldn't detract from the glorious, indulgent, wish-fulfilment Fantasy that is Jim Henson's 'Labyrinth'. And if the movie looks at times like 'Monty Python meets the Muppets' that's because it more or less is: the script comes in part from Python regular Terry Jones and Muppet-master Henson (who also directed), with contributions from children's author Dennis Lee and legendary Hollywood movie maker Elaine May, as well as George Lucas serving as the executive producer.

The story itself centres on Sarah (played by a young Jennifer Connelly before her 'Rocketeer' babe status of the early 1990s) whose imagination is filled with Fairytale romances of princes and princesses but whose daily life is filled with the mundane chore of babysitting her baby brother, Toby, for her parents. In frustration she pleads with the Goblins to come and take Toby away to their magical realm little realising that her wish will come true that very night and that she will need to search for her brother through the fantastical Labyrinth and all the way to the fabled Goblin City, where she must confront Toby's kidnapper, the dreaded Goblin King Jareth (played by Bowie sporting a Tina Turner wig of epic proportions). The Labyrinth itself is a magnificent creation, the beautiful sets impressing far beyond their studio-bound nature, and like much else from the same people who brought us the classic 'Dark Crystal' (1982) or the disgracefully underrated television series 'The Storyteller (1988), they display a weirdly magical veneer of realism that could have just as easily come from the mind of Terry Gilliam. The simple but well judged special effects and, of course, superb puppetry and animatronics, created a film for children that few other movies of the 1980s or 1990s managed to equal. And with several songs featuring throughout (sung by Bowie obviously), as well as the hugely enjoyable gospel-driven 'Underground' released as a single, the film scored musically too with a timeless approach that has yet to fade.

Despite high expectations for success the movie was inexplicably unsuccessful upon release, especially in the U.S. market where audiences and critics alike generally panned it (so that it failed to even recoup its substantial budget). However a steady success in VHS and later DVD sales ensured a substantial cult following, almost entirely amongst adults who appreciated the elaborate Pythonesque-like atmosphere of the movie as well as the underscore of adolescent sexual awakening represented by Sarah's relationship with the Goblin King. As simple as the storyline was, the currents underlying it of the sad but inevitable fading of childhood and the oncoming of the harsher realities of adulthood, gave it a darker, more substantial edge than most Fantasy movies, even those intended for an adult audience, and an optimistic ending showing that not all of childhood need, or should, be left behind created an appealing message for many (and if you're reading this probably you too).

As well as a popular masquerade ball held by 'Labyrinth' fans in Los Angles every year, and a line of Manga books called 'Return to Labyrinth' released over the last five years, several excellent editions of the movie are available on DVD and Blu-ray, and all with thankfully substantial extras. As a not-so-secret ode to childhood and its inevitable passing, few Fantasy movies can compete; but few others can also state with such confidence that nothing is lost: not if we don't want it to be.

The Seinfeld Show

Seinfeld is one of the greatest TV show aired in our television set, it is the story about, yes “Nothing“, that gives us laugh for the whole 30 minutes of nothingness. The show compose of four main character, Seinfeld, the stand up comedian who always makes us laugh, Elaine, the ex-girlfriend of Seinfeld who still his friend, Kramer, a businessman without a business and lastly George, living on his parents house , the balding fat guy according to Elaine.

One of the ingredient why the show was top of the chart because the story tackles on the simple things that mirror our society from buying lunch, clothing, meeting with our friends, having misadventure in life, the show didn't concentrate on only one situation it revolves in all four main character in all different situation.

But all stories must have an ending, the finale of the season 9 was not aired ,the last episode was filmed in front of the audience and executives of the show, having them signed “vow of silent”, having press people and the public wonder, what was the ending, many speculation had rose, some said they all died together in a car crash and other said that they've all been prosecuted for the lack of humanity.

Having the fans crave for more Seinfeld shows, Sony resealed all 9 season on DVD, the first, second and third season was released on November 23, 2004 , the fourth was on May 17,2005, the fifth and sixth was on November 22, 2006, the seventh was on November 21 ,2006, the eight was on June 5 ,2007 and lastly the ninth will on November 2007.

When it was first aired on July 5, 1989, the show made a mark in our hearts that will never fade, it cannot be denied, even though the show has ended the 9 season of nothingness still makes us laugh.

Are George, Jerry, and Elaine stealing my thoughts?

That's just the feelings I get these days. I'm afraid this whole ordeal might be administered by Larry David.

I was born with talent but it is MINE. I've been suspecting for a while now that there is some stealing of my creativity going on, because I've been losing it over the past few years. AND, Larry D.'s evil plan as causing some glitches in my thinking - my short term memory seems to be declining, and I've been very short with people lately as well as hot headed.

No dude! Someone stole your meds.
