The Glenn Gould Edition - Bach: The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book II
List Price: $19.98

Glenn Gould's Bach is by now so ingrained in the 20th-century musical consciousness that it's almost hard to remember just how unusual his devotion to this composer was back in the 1950s and '60s when he first started making records. That his Bach recordings are still the standard by which all others are measured is a tribute to his self-awareness as an artist. If you are looking for the essential Glenn Gould playing Bach, then the three sets you really ought to have are his Goldberg Variations (either version), plus the two books of The Well-Tempered Clavier. Gould was simply incomparable in the contrapuntal intricacies of Bach's fugal writing, and in The Well-Tempered Clavier he has 48 opportunities to strut his stuff. He makes a show of every one. --David Hurwitz

Designed for tactical, duty, or general use, the variable-output SureFire U2 Ultra LED flashlight fits conveniently in the palm of your hand, yet is more versatile than lights several times its size. The U2 Ultra is outfitted with a virtually indestructible light emitting diode (LED) with six selectable output levels. The levels include a long-running low beam that's suitable for reading maps, a brilliant tactical level high beam that's five times as intense as a large two D-cell flashlight, and four settings in between. The multiple output levels make this flashlight great for backpacking, camping, or disaster preparedness kits. In addition, the light runs for up to three hours at high output (50-plus lumens) and 175 hours at low output, so you needn't worry about the light failing at the worst possible moment. The versatile SureFire U2 Ultra measures only 6 inches long. The U2 Ultra is also built to last, with a rugged, aerospace-grade aluminum body that's Mil-Spec Type III hard anodized in black. The LED light source, meanwhile, has no filament to burn out or break, helping it last for thousands of hours. And to keep dust and the elements from penetrating the interior, the light is O-ring sealed and weatherproof. Other features include a tempered Pyrex window, an easy-to-use tailcap switch, a heavy-duty pocket clip, and a switch lockout that prevents accidental activation during transport or storage. The U2 Ultra, which includes batteries with a 10-year shelf life, carries a lifetime warranty. Specifications Max output: 100 lumens Low output: 2 lumens High runtime: 3 hours Low runtime: 175 hours Battery type: Two 123A lithiums Length: 6 inches Weight: 5.7 ounces (with batteries) About SureFire The SureFire story begins in 1969, when Dr. John Matthews--an engineer with a Ph.D. from Cal Tech--founded the Newport Corporation in order to harness the power of the laser for industrial applications. Over time, Matthews turned his inventive mind toward shooting (his hobby and passion), hoping to adapt lasers as firearm sights. He eventually designed and patented a laser sight in 1979, and subsequently bought the laser sight business from the Newport board in order to focus exclusively on commercializing the product. The newly formed Laser Products debuted with a handgun sight for the Colt Trooper, following it up with a sight for a Ruger Mini-14. In 1984, the business took a huge leap forward with a phone call from the Los Angeles Police Department's SWAT Team, which wanted to borrow a number of laser-sighted shotguns for security during the 1984 Olympic Games. In the years that followed, the technically superb, yet seriously expensive, laser-sighted firearms paved the way for future developments, including a weapon-mounted flashlight called the SureFire WeaponLight. Laser Products went on to establish itself as the leading manufacturer of rugged, powerful, and compact illumination tools for tactical applications--from weapon-mounted lights and laser sights to handheld lights powerful and bright enough to qualify as "force-option" tools that could temporarily blind, unbalance, and disorient a threat. Eventually, the SureFire moniker became so synonymous with excellence in handheld illumination tools that the company changed its name to SureFire LLC.

Stanley Kramer's sprawling 1963 comedy about a search for buried treasure by at least a dozen people--all played by well-known entertainers of their day--is the kind of mass comedy that Hollywood hasn't made in many years. (Another example from around the same time is Blake Edwards's The Great Race.) After a number of strangers (including Milton Berle, Jonathan Winters, Sid Caesar, Phil Silvers, and others) witness a dying stranger (Jimmy Durante) identify the location of hidden money, a conflict-ridden hunt begins, watched over carefully by a suspicious cop (Spencer Tracy). The ensuing two and a half hours of mayhem has its ups and downs--some bits and performers are certainly funnier than others. But Kramer, who is better known for socially conscious, serious cinema (Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?), is in a mood for broad comic characterization, and some of his jokes are so intentionally obvious (Durante literally kicks a bucket when he dies), they'd have a place in Airplane! Watch for lots of cameo appearances, including Jerry Lewis (who had called Kramer and asked him why he hadn't been invited to participate). --Tom Keogh

Steven Spielberg's 1993 mega-hit rivals Jaws as the most intense and frightening film he'd ever made prior to Schindler's List, but it was also among his weakest stories. Based on Michael Crichton's novel about an island amusement park populated by cloned dinosaurs, the film works best as a thrill ride with none of the interesting human dynamics of Spielberg's Jaws. That lapse proves unfortunate, but there's no shortage of raw terror as a rampaging T-rex and nasty raptors try to make fast food out of the cast. The effects are still astonishing (despite the fact that the computer-generated technology has since been improved upon) and at times primeval, such as the sight of a herd of whatever-they-are scampering through a valley. --Tom Keogh

STAR WARS EPISODE VI:RETURN OF THE JE - DVD Movie
The 2006 limited-edition two-disc release of Return of the Jedi is not only the first time the movie has been officially available by itself on DVD. It marks the first-ever DVD release of Jedi as it originally played in theaters in 1983. What does that mean exactly? The film is without the various "improvements" and enhancements George Lucas added for the theatrical rerelease in 1997 as well as the DVD premiere in 2004. So Sebastian Shaw reclaims his spot as the man behind Darth Vader's mask, and we don't see the otherworldly celebration (including the Gungans) at the end of the movie. What do you lose by watching the 1983 version? Dolby Digital 5.1 EX sound, for one thing (only 2.0 Surround here), and digital cleanup. But for home-theater owners, the biggest frustration will be from the non-anamorphic picture. On a widescreen TV, an anamorphically enhanced (16x9) picture at a 2.35:1 aspect ratio will fill the screen with the exception of small black bars on the top and bottom. The original edition of Jedi, however, on a widescreen TV will have large black bars on the top, the bottom, and the sides unless you stretch the picture (and distort it in the process, especially considering the substandard picture quality). If you're watching on a standard square-shaped (4:3) TV, though, you won't notice a difference. Yes, it's true that serious home-theater lovers who want spectacular sound and anamorphically enhanced picture can always watch the 2004 version of the movie also included in this set. But chances are good that they already picked up the trilogy edition of all three films, so their decision to buy the 2006 two-disc edition depends on how much they want the original film. The official LucasFilm stance is that this is an individual release of the 2004 version of Return of the Jedi, and the 1983 version of the film is merely a "bonus feature." Common speculation is that the only reason the original versions are seeing the official light of day at all is to undercut the booming black market for the laserdisc version. Star Wars fans will have to decide for themselves if that's worth the purchase. --David Horiuchi

If you are concerned about your hair, the earlier you start using the HairMax LaserComb, the better. There's nothing more detrimental to a person's appearance than thin, lifeless hair. And the longer you wait to do something about it, the less chance there is of reversing the problem. That's where HairMax steps in to help. The HairMax LaserComb is a safe, simple way to a fuller head of thick, luxurious-looking hair. With more than 90% of all LaserComb users achieving satisfaction with their results, this device is a safe, simple way to a fuller head of thick, luxurious-looking hair. It is a proven fact that skin cells "like" light. Your hair is no different. Both men and women of all ages can benefit from laser light therapy provided by the LaserComb. Although individual results may vary, you should notice early improvements to the general appearance of your hair within the first eight to 16 weeks. These improvements should include shinier and thicker looking hair. In general, studies have shown that about 45% of LaserComb users see these results in as little as eight weeks of treatment. Another 45% realize benefits from use within eight to 16 weeks. A small group of users take longer and may not experience noticeable results before 16 weeks of use. Even Time Magazine spotted the benefits of LaserComb, featuring the invention in the December 4, 2000, "Inventions of the Year" issue. Over the course of several more months, you may notice your hair gradually become fuller, stronger, and denser looking. Over time, all users -- both men and women -- usually notice progressively increasing benefits as they continue to use the LaserComb. Conversely, once the usage stops, the appearance of the hair does gradually regress back to its original state. Like brushing your teeth to maintain healthy teeth and gums, regular LaserComb usage is recommend to keep your hair looking its best. As few as three times a week for 10 to 15 minutes a session is sufficient to see results. HairMax encourages the glide method for the best results. How to use the LaserComb The LaserComb has been designed with both comfort and convenience in mind. To turn on the LaserComb, press the power button and then the laser button on the front of the unit. Next, place the LaserComb flat on your head using the two rows of teeth. Rather than constantly moving the device through your hair (as you would with a regular brush or comb), you should use a glide method by placing the LaserComb on a specific spot on your head and gently gliding it back about 0.5-inches each time the audible four-second beep occurs. Move from the front of your hairline to the back of your head, then repeat the process moving in the opposite direction. The glide method is the best way to ensure that the LaserComb will be as effective as possible. In addition to being very easy to operate, this device is also a relaxing and enjoyable product to use. There are no sprays, topical ointments, or powders to worry about, and it can be used in the comfort of your own home at your own convenience. Proven Technology: Laser PhotoTherapy For many years leading hair clinics and salons in Europe, Asia and around the world have been using Laser PhotoTherapy -- a form of laser technology also referred to as Low Level Laser Therapy -- to improve the appearance of thinning hair. Over and over individuals suffering from thin, lifeless hair have achieved great results with this form of therapy, but until just recently Laser PhotoTherapy was only available through exclusive hair clinics. These clinics rely on large, fixed laser devices, and, to be effective, a patient must attend many regularly scheduled, expensive in-office therapy sessions. With the HairMax LaserComb, Lexington International has miniaturized the internationally-acclaimed Laser PhotoTherapy technology. Now, with the LaserComb, it is possible to receive this effective hair care treatment in the comfort and privacy of your home, office, or hotel, and at a fraction of the cost charged by hair clinics. The LaserComb utilizes the scientific principle of Photo-Biostimulation that progressively improves the appearance of your hair over time. By harnessing the energizing and nourishing effects of Laser PhotoTherapy, HairMax makes your hair look healthy and vibrant. Remember, living cells thrive in light and your hair is no different. The Laser PhotoTherapy used in the LaserComb complies with USA laser product safety standards. The laser affects only your hair and you achieve benefits without any worrying side effects. Laser PhotoTherapy gives off no heat and is safe for consumers to use at home. Unlike the high powered lasers used in manufacturing, medical surgeries and science, Laser PhotoTherapy is a gentle, nourishing light therapy that has positive effects on hair. The HairMax LaserComb is safe to be used by itself or in conjunction with other treatments. Hair before treatment with the LaserComb. Results after the first weeks of treatment. And results with continued treatment.

Here are some more information for Edition Laser:

The 3 models in the HP LaserJet 1200 Printer series are the base model, C7044A, the 1200 SE, model C7047A, and the LaserJet 1200n. The 1200n is the bundle for networked set ups. The 1220 series uses the base or special edition 1200 printers, as well.
The 1220SE and 1220 are combination copier, printer, and scanners. Software and hardware are added to the base or special edition 1200 printer. One can also choose to add these copying and scanning capabilities at a later date by purchasing the C7046A. This stand-alone peripheral is completely compatible with the HO LaserJet 1200 printer.
HP is the company that invented laser printers for the mass market. They started way back in 1984. The LaserJet name was the name of the original laser printer for PCs. It had a ppm rate of eight and an eight MHz processor. The 128 kB of memory was shared with the controller.
Graphics capabilities were still a far off dream. The best the original LaserJet could manage were lines. But they were solid lines, not dotted ones. The ability of LaserJet technology to print solid characters was the chief attraction of HPs new kind of printer. Current models like the 1200 series print photo-quality graphics. That is because the 1200 has 15MB of hard drive at its disposal. The 1220 version needs a whopping one hundred and sixty.
Porting an HP LaserJet 1200 printer can be done to a USB port. It can also use a parallel port that is bi directional and compliant with either the ECP or IEEE 1284 standards. These are the only acceptable ports.
The introduction of the LaserJet Series Two printer in 1987 was a watershed event. In its own way the unit was a step in the direction of a laser printer for the masses. The Series Two was priced below the three thousand dollar mark and was intended for the SME segment of the business market.
A half-size version of the Series Two was brought to market in the fall of 1989. The LaserJet IIP was a true consumer-level product. It was half the size of the original and sold for about half as much.
Print speed for the 1200 is the same whether the 1200 is outfitted as a 1220 or whether is an off-the shelf base unit. Legal-size paper prints at fourteen pages per minute. Letter-size paper prints at a page per minute faster.
An admirable characteristic of Hewlett-Packard is the attention the company pays to the environment. The 1200 printer series is no exception. The PowerSave features lowers consumption when the unit is not in use but is still on.
Another great feature of the HP environmental awareness program is how they handle toner. There is an Econo-Mode setting that can and should be used for internal documents. Save the good stuff for paying situations. Plastic pieces weighing more than 25g are marked for appropriate recycling. In addition to the Econo-Mode, there is a feature for manual duplex and a reducer that permits printing, on one page, two or more pages.
The most impressive element in the HP re-use, reduce, recycle program is how they handle printer cartridges. In excess of twenty-five countries across the globe, customers can recycle their printer cartridges. A postage paid packing envelop is include in product packaging. Used HP 1200 series toner can be mailed free to an HP recycling depot. HP compatible toners are really the top printer cartridges, anyway.
