Another great place to shop for Edie Falco products is Amazon. They have more than just books! Here are some more information for Edie Falco: You've seen the pink ribbon before. It's the international symbol for breast cancer awareness, going as far back as 1991 when the Susan G. Komen Foundation first handed them out to participants in a breast cancer survivors convention. But did you know that peach almost became the color of the ribbon for the fight against the disease? A breast cancer survivor by the name of Charlotte Hayley decided to sell cards bearing peach-colored ribbons to promote awareness. The agenda caught the interest of cosmetic company Estee Lauder, but they wanted to change the peach ribbons to pink, thus going back to the original color first used in 1991. And ever since, it has been pink. If the HIV awareness ribbon is red, the ribbon for breast cancer is pink. Pink suggests femininity, delicateness, the maternal instinct: an appropriate color indeed. It is the awareness of a disease that can take a life, if not radically alter a lifestyle. The pink is the awareness of a disease that doesn't just disfigure women but also robs them of their inherent capacity to nourish their children. Breast cancer, like all forms of cancer, is a traitor. It strikes when you're not watching. This is why October has become the designated month for Breast Cancer Awareness, a time to raise consciousness among women (and not just women but everyone in general) about the disease. This is the time when the pink ribbons start coming out, delicately pink, but steadfast in mission. The main goal is always to encourage women to get a mammogram and have themselves checked, something many women ignore. The alibis go from There's always something more important to do, or That trip to the doctor can always wait, until it's too late. What many people miss is that early detection is very important because time is always a factor in cancer. The chances of survival are greater when the disease is diagnosed properly and treatment is administered as soon as possible. And all it takes is a simple non-invasive mammogram. A mammogram can be costly, but nowadays every health insurance company in the U.S. has been required by law to provide coverage for this procedure for their clients. Women with Medicare can avail of the procedure at a low-cost too, and some clinics offer absolutely free screening so there's still no reason why women shouldn't be able to find time to have themselves examined. In the U.S. alone, for the year 2010, an estimated 207,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed among women, along with over 54,000 new cases of non-invasive cancer. These figures are significantly lower than in previous years, (2% from 1999 to 2006), and that's a good thing. It means the pink ribbons are working: people are getting aware that there is such a disease and that it can strike them (even males can be candidates ), but only if they allow it too. It means people are taking care of themselves more these days. Finding out that you have breast cancer should not be the end of your life. Rather, it is only the beginning. This may sound clichéd, but the statistics in survival from the disease is very hopeful. In 2010 the number of breast cancer survivors has reached more than 2.5 million, and it's still on the rise. Celebrities like musician Sheryl Crow, Golden Girl Rue McClanahan, pop star Kylie Minogue, actress Cynthia Nixon (of "Sex and the City"), Edie Falco (of "The Sopranos"), and Christina Applegate have all been diagnosed with the disease, battled it, and are now doing their part in promoting breast cancer awareness. Eric has been writing articles online for about 1 year now. He is also sharing many of his passions through his blogs, his latest being on Backyard Putting Greens which among others give you reviews on Indoor Putting Greens. Dr. Samuel Meyers Colon Cancer Prevention celebrities with breast cancer often use their illness to help make people more aware of the risks of breast cancer as well as give others with the disease hope that they can overcome it as well. Dr. Samuel Meyers Colon Cancer Prevention Edie Falco Edie Falco, star of both HBO shows "The Sopranos" and "OZ" was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was a young 40 years old, in 2003. She didn't tell people at first, but instead secretly went into treatment. She didn't reveal her cancer until after she was declared cancer free, but after that talked about openly. She was only secretive because she didn't want to be asked constantly how she was feeling and if she was all right. Jaclyn Smith Jaclyn Smith whom everyone knows as Kelly Garret, one of "Charlie's Angels" from the same-named TV show of the 1970s, was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 56 years old in 2002. Most cases of breast cancer occur in women who are 55 years or older. Jaclyn was treated with a lumpectomy and radiation, because the disease was caught early during a routine self-exam. She works with groups like Susan G. Komen for the Cure and talks publicly about early detection and breast cancer risks. Lung Cancer Secrets Revealed Click here Christina Applegate Christina Applegate is one of the youngest and most vocal celebrities with breast cancer. She was diagnosed in 2008 when she was only 36 years old. The former star of "Married with Children" was filming her new successful hit show "Samantha Who?" when she was diagnosed. She tested positive for a gene mutation that greatly increases the risk of breast cancer. And because her mother had also been diagnosed with breast cancer more than once, making heredity just one more risk factor for the young woman, she opted to not just have the breast with the cancer removed, but to have both removed. This double mastectomy was a preventative measure to stave off any future cancer. Applegate speaks out for the available of MRI testing for women of all income levels, because it was this test that detected her cancer early and has probably saved her life by reducing her risk of the cancer spreading or recurring. Melissa Etheridge Rocker Melissa Etheridge is one of the most recognizable celebrities with breast cancer. She was diagnosed at age 43 in 2004. She had a lumpectomy, which removes only the lump, and then an aggressive course of chemotherapy to help prevent spread and recurrence. She caught the cancer while giving herself a self-exam in the shower, and gave a performance in 2005 at the Grammy awards while bald, after having lost her hair to the chemotherapy. Many people in her family died of cancer, so she is now an outspoken advocate of prevention and research. Sheryl Crow Rocker Sheryl Crow is also one of the most well known celebrities with cancer. She was diagnosed at 44 in 2006, and is outspoken about early detection. Surgery and radiation were her treatments, with no chemo because the cancer was caught in the very early stages. lung cancer treatment breakthroughs Click here About the Author http://www.curedisease.info/2009/07/lung-cancer/"> What uniform or scrubs is Edie Falco wearing in Nurse Jackie?
