Eddie Izzard: Dress to Kill
List Price: $19.98
Sale Price: $12.13

|
In Dress to Kill, Eddie Izzard spins free-flowing jokes about San Francisco (where the comedy concert was filmed), transvestitism, squirrels, American optimism, Hitler, the British royal family, mass murder, and Stonehenge--and that's only the first 30 minutes. It's as if this ingenious comedian says whatever comes off the top of his head, but giving that impression demands cunning and skill; Izzard romps through human history and transforms surprisingly complex ideas into biting satire--as well as knockout bits of sublime frivolity, like describing the movie Speed entirely in French. His mercurial patter is sprinkled with four-letter words, but his twinkling glances make this more mischievous than crude. Izzard has delivered some excellent performances in movies (like Velvet Goldmine and The Cat's Meow), but it's on stage that he really explodes with daffy wit and charisma. Simply brilliant and completely addictive; you will want to watch this over and over. --Bret Fetzer

Eddie Izzard - Circle
List Price: $19.98
Sale Price: $10.95
|
|
|
No one but madcap stand-up comedian Eddie Izzard can spin comic gold out of papal history, monkeys with guns, Jesus preaching to the dinosaurs, and cafeteria food on the Death Star. Circle, taken from his stand-up tour in 2000, doesn't have the astonishingly seamless free-associative flow of Glorious or Dress to Kill, his previous specials--which is to say, he's only intermittently brilliant, instead of supernaturally nonstop brilliant. We'll take what we can get, because Izzard can slip in surprisingly stinging commentary about international politics and religion, yet his impish smile suggests that he's only pointing out the obvious. He tosses out an idea and then plays with it like a cat plays with a mouse, flipping it around, teasing it out, pouncing, and then letting it go, only to sneak back up on it just when you'd forgetten it was there. Cheeky, subversive, and very, very funny. --Bret Fetzer

From the creators of CARS and TOY STORY 3 comes a new, laugh-out-loud, heartwarming adventure geared for the entire family. Star race car Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship on the road from Radiator Springs to exciting new places when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix!Product Measures: 0.5 x 5.5 x 7.5
Lightning McQueen (voice by Owen Wilson), Mater (Larry the Cable Guy), Sally (Bonnie Hunt), and the rest of the gang from Radiator Springs return to the screen in this sequel to Pixar's Cars (2006). But instead of evoking a nostalgic vision of Route 66 through the American Southwest, director John Lasseter and his artists spoof James Bond films in a fast-paced adventure that mixes espionage and road racing. After a successful season on the track, Lightning is looking forward to some rest at home, but Mater gets him involved in an elaborate three-part international race sponsored by Sir Miles Axlerod (Eddie Izzard) to promote his new synthetic auto fuel. While serving on Lightning's pit crew, Mater inadvertently gets mixed up with two British secret agent cars, Finn McMissile (Michael Caine) and Holley Shiftwell (Emily Mortimer), who are investigating a plot to sabotage the race. Myriad complications ensue before Lightning and Mater get back to the (relative) peace of Radiator Springs. The Pixar artists clearly had a lot of fun spoofing locations in Tokyo, London, Paris, and the Italian Riviera, and creating auto versions of sumo wrestlers, kabuki actors, Queen Elizabeth II, and a doting Italian mother. The use of 3-D adds adrenaline to the racing sequences. Cars 2 lacks the emotional impact of Toy Story 2, Up, and most of the other Pixar features, but that will do little to lessen its appeal to its target audience, boys who love cars, driving games, and car toys. Cars 2 is screening with Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation, a new short with Woody, Buzz, Barbie, Ken, and the rest of the Toy Story gang. (Rated G: minor toilet humor and a few scary moments.) --Charles Solomon Related Products More Pixar Movies More Cars Cars Toys Versions of Cars 2 on Blu-ray and DVD Title Cars 2 DVD Cars 2 (Two-Disc Blu-ray / DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging) Cars 2 (Two-Disc Blu-ray / DVD Combo in DVD Packaging) Cars 2 (Five-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy) Cars Director's Collection ( 11-Disc Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy) Release Date 11/1/2011 11/1/2011 11/1/2011 11/1/2011 11/1/2011 Format/ Number of discs One Disc: DVD Two Discs: Blu-ray + DVD Two Discs: Blu-ray + DVD Five Discs: Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy 11 Disc TotalCars includes: Blu-ray + DVD + Digital CopyCars Toon: Mater's Tall Tales includes: Blu-ray + DVD + Digital CopyCars 2 includes: Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray + BD Blu-ray 3D No No No Yes Yes (On Cars 2 Only) Blu-ray No Yes Yes Yes Yes DVD Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Digital Copy No No No Yes Yes Bonus Features(Bonus Material Not Rated) Theatrical Short - Toy Story Toon: Hawaiian Vacation All-New, Exclusive Cars Toon: Air Mater Director Commentary*Not available in all territories. Here are some more information for Eddie Izzard:

Most of us love to get together with friends and just sit around having a laugh. Some people may actually have funny friends, while others just love their friends so much they laugh anyway. Sometimes, a truly un-funny person can be just as funny, not for their lack of trying. No matter how funny your friends are, it would probably be even funnier to sit down and have a candid conversation with a room full of professional comedians, but whoever gets such an opportunity? Now, with a new show to be aired on satellite TV via Showtime called "The Green Room with Paul Provenza" comedy fans can do exactly that.
Paul Provenza is an avid comedy fan himself, and the producer of this fantastically funny new show. With each program lasting just half an hour, Provenza aims to catch all the gritty, politically incorrect, offensive, twisted and sick comedy coming from the mouths of some of the most famous comics on satellite TV, that can't actually be shown during regularly scheduled programming. Filmed at the Vanguard in Hollywood, California, Provenza will sit down for each show with four comedians and just let the conversation flow. Main topics of conversation that viewers can expect include stories, theories, anecdotes and personal advice about the comedy and television industries. While the topics can be as varied and as rapidly revolving as the guests themselves, a fair amount of the banter will probably fall to politics, warns Provenza of some of the upcoming episodes.
A few lucky 'studio audience' members were allowed to sit in for each taping of the show, providing some firsthand reactions to the shocking, startling and/or hilarious things coming out of these comedians mouths. Comedic celebrities featured will include Drew Carey, Larry Miller, Eddie Izzard, and Reginald D. Hunter, and that's just the premier! Other comedians featured will include Roseanne Barr and Andy Dick, amongst many others, who will weigh the pros and cons of comedy in the US versus abroad, tactics to win over a standup audience, and even about past fracases and failures.
Of course, above all else, these programs are designed to give a well-shot, high definition, uncensored look at the real people behind the personas that the world so loves. Not all of them are as network television friendly as many would like to believe, giving the audience that kind of behaving badly feeling that comes from having a beer with an old high school teacher years later, or watching contemporary Bob Saget standup. Unlike other art forms, there can be many inappropriate instances for comedy, as the guests will surely discuss. Just like any stars, comedians had to work their way up the food chain to get to where they are today, meaning there will be many funny tales about the bumps in the road they faced along the way. To tune in, one only needs access to Showtime, available via satellite TV. Along with many other great programs available 'on demand' on Showtime, "The Green Room with Paul Provenza" will surely be another wildly popular, runaway hit.

The Top 10 Most Famous Men with the First Name of Ed or Eddie or Edward
For the past year I've been compiling famous names to list on my name numerology website. These are all noted individuals, but who are the most famous? Today let's count down the most famous men named Ed, Eddie, or Edward.
The most famous people (based on online chatter) with the first name Ed, Eddie, or Edward are:
10. Ed McBain - Author (87th Precinct mystery series, Matthew Hope mystery series)
9. Ed Harris - Actor (Apollo 13, Pollock, The Hours)
8. Ed Wood - Director and Screenwriter (Glen or Glenda, Plan 9 from Outer Space, Bride of the Monster)
7. Edward Scissorhands - Title character from the movie Edward Scissorhands
6. Ed Westwick - Actor (Gossip Girl)
5. Eddie Izzard - Actor and Comedian (The Riches, Valkyrie, Live at the Ambassadors)
4. Edward Norton - Actor (Fight Club, American History X, The Incredible Hulk)
3. Ed Sullivan - Talk Show Host (The Ed Sullivan Show)
2. Eddie Murphy - Actor and Comedian (Beverly Hills Cop, Shrek, Dreamgirls)
...and the most famous man named Ed, Eddie, or Edward is...
1. Edward Cullen - Character in the Twilight Saga series of books and movies
Not making the top 10 were Ed Anger - Weekly World News columnist, Ed Bradley - Television Journalist (60 Minutes, CBS Sunday Night with Ed Bradley), Ed McMahon - Television Announcer and Personality (The Tonight Show), Ed Norton - Character on the TV series The Honeymooners, Ed O'Neill - Actor (Married... with Children, Modern Family, John from Cincinnati), Eddie Munster - Character on the TV series the Munsters, Eddie Van Halen - Musician most natably in the band Van Halen (Jump, Panama, Dance the Night Away), Edward Albee - Playwright (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Seascape, The Zoo Story), Edward Asner - Actor (The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Lou Grant, Roots), Edward Ferrars - character in Jane Austen's novel Sense and Sensibility, Edward Furlong - Actor (American History X, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Before and After), Edward Hopper - American Painter (Nighthawks, Automat, Chop Suey), Edward Hyde - Character in the novel Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Edward Murdstone - Character in Charles Dickens' novel David Copperfield, Edward Rochester - Character in Charlotte Brontë's novel Jane Eyre, and Edward Teach - Pirate in the early 1700s better known as Blackbeard.
A pretty good mix of occupations for the top ten Ed, Eddies, and Edwards with one talk show host (Ed Sullivan), one director (Ed Wood), one author (Ed McBain), two fictional characters (Edward Cullen and Edward Scissorhands), and five actors (Eddie Murphy, Edward Norton, Eddie Izzard, Ed Westwick, and Ed Harris).
This was an unusual top ten list in that there were no musicians in the top 10, with Eddie Van Halen just barely missing out. No surprise that Twilight fan favorite Edward Cullen topped the list. It's nearly impossible to beat the online popularity of Twilight these days.
I compiled this list by searching for each of the Ed, Eddie, and Edwards on a number of search engines and ranking them by the number of web pages, discussion forums, photos, videos, etc that are available online.
