Star Wars The Clone Wars: Season 1 (Blu-ray) The “Clone Wars” goes back to the original Star Wars film when Obi-Wan Kenobi tells Luke Skywalker that he was once a Jedi knight the same as your father and that they fought together in the Clone Wars. Since that moment fans have been obsessed with what the clone wars were. This new TV series takes place immediately after the events of Star Wars-Episode II: Attack of the Clones. The series follows Obi-Wan Kenobi and his apprentice Anakin Skywalker and introduces us to some new characters such as Ahsoka Tano a girl Jedi knight as well as characters we already know. Product Measures: .94 x 5.63 x 7.06
The thrilling 3-D CGI animated series The Clone Wars serves as impressive proof that George Lucas's Star Wars universe could translate to a weekly television series that wouldn't lose the scope, imagination, or sense of adventure of the features. Like the 2008 feature film of the same name, the 22 episodes that compose the series' debut season (2008-2009) cover the action between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Here Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and the latter's Padawan, 14-year-old Ahsoka Tano (who takes some getting used to), along with a complex cast of supporting characters from the Galactic Republic (including R2-D2 and C-3PO, again voiced by Anthony Daniels), battle the Separatists, which count members of the Sith and other adherents to the Dark Side of the Force among its ranks. The action is plentiful and the scripts rich with the quasi-mystical and eminently quotable dialogue on which the Star Wars saga has earned its legendary status; one can imagine only the most stringent purist or CGI detractor finding fault with the first season of The Clone Wars. The handsomely packaged four-disc set for season 1 includes a wealth of extras for those wishing to dig even deeper into the Clone Wars experience. Chief among the pleasant surprises is the widescreen aspect ratio for each episode, which gives greater depth and exposure to every single frame. Seven episodes are listed as Director's Cuts, which translates as an extra minute or two of action or dialogue--not earth-shattering, but they certainly enhance the enjoyment of each episode. Short featurettes, ranging between 5 and 7 minutes, accompany each episode and discuss production notes, character design, and other detail; these are expanded versions of the commentaries by supervising director Dave Filoni that were featured on StarWars.com, with additional contributions by series writer Henry Gilroy and sound designer David Acord, as well as new comments by Filoni. And there's a 64-page book of artwork from the series, including storyboards, concept design, and matte paintings, built into the body of the packaging itself. For the Easter Egg-inclined, a surprise awaits on each disc, including trailers for season 2 and animatics. --Paul Gaita

The third season of the Clone Wars TV series has no major story arc: it's just a collection of adventures tied together by the recurring characters. Much of the first half of the season is devoted to diplomatic maneuvering in and out of the Senate. The filmmakers use the behind-the-scenes manipulations of the Trade Council and Banking Clan to make rather pointed political statements about the deregulation of the banks and the cost of the Separatist War impoverishing education, infrastructure, and health care on the planet Mandalore. The directors crank up the action in the second half of the season. When Count Dooku betrays his personal assassin Asajj Ventress, she tries to take revenge with some help from a new Sith killer, the unfortunately named Savage Opress. These episodes involve a world of witches that feels out of place in the Star Wars galaxy. The season comes to a slam-bang conclusion with five linked episodes involving the rescue of Jedi General Piel from a Separatist prison--an adventure that introduces a CG version of Chewbacca. The filmmakers appear to have spent most of their budget on special effects (rain, lava, explosions, lightning) and surface texturing (down to the dirt Padawan Ahsoka Tano gets on her skin). The animation is uneven at best, with many of the characters moving like weightless puppets. Not surprisingly, the Droids and robotic characters move more convincingly than the living ones. Jabba and the other Hutts lack the oozing, walrus-like bulk of the original, but the mask-faced Savage Opress executes some fancy battle moves. (Not rated: suitable for ages 10 and older: violence, violence against women, torture) --Charles Solomon 1. Clone Cadets, 2. Arc Troopers, 3. Supply Lines, 4. Sphere of Influence, 5. Corruption, 6. After an impressive debut season, the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars roars back for a sophomore slate of adventures that tops its predecessor in both action and mythos-related dramatics. Situated in the Star Wars timeline between Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, the 22 episodes center around Anakin Skywalker's promotion to Jedi Knight in an attempt to rally the Jedis in the face of General Grievous's attacks. Joined by Obi-Wan Kenobi, he's sent to the planet Geonosis in pursuit of the villain, only to find its population enslaved--and worse--by the Separatists. The fight for the people of Geonosis is easily the highlight of the series, but secondary story lines offer solid intrigue as well, most notably in the arrival of bounty hunter Cad Bane, whose mission is to find children sensitive to the Force, and the appearance of Boba Fett, who vows to avenge the death of his father by Mace Windu. A rampaging giant monster, scads of political intrigue, and some genuinely impressive battle sequences all add to the enjoyment, but what really elevates season two is its darker tone, as evidenced in "Brain Invaders," where Anakin's torture of a prisoner gives a hint of his future, and the terrifying, zombiefied prisoners of Geonosis. The more serious approach, as well as the lack of comic relief (most notably, no Jar Jar Binks), will undoubtedly please adult Star Wars fans, though younger devotees might be somewhat disturbed by the turn of events; thankfully, there is plentiful action and derring-do to balance out the murkier deeds. Extras include substantive featurettes in which director Dave Filoni and his crew discuss a quartet of episodes, including the Geonosis story line and the influence of Godzilla on their own reptilian menace. There's also a detailed, 68-page booklet filled with character design and the artists' notes. --Paul Gaita

Abrahams salieri declares war against the heavens for speaking through the genius of wolfgang amadeus mozart played by hulce. Flashbacks illuminate the mad energetic brilliance of mozart and salieris struggle with his own mediocrity. Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 02/10/2009 Starring: F Murray Abraham Jeffery Jones Run time: 180 minutes Rating: Pg Director: Milos Forman
A note-perfect cinematic event whose immortality was assured from its opening night, Amadeus is an unlikely candidate for the director's-cut treatment. Like one of Mozart's operas, the multiple Oscar-winning theatrical version seemed perfectly formed from the outset--ideal casting, costumes, sets, cinematography, lighting, screenplay, music, music, music--so the reinstatement of an extra 20 minutes simply risks adding "too many notes." Yet though this extended cut can hardly be said to improve a picture that needed no improvement, it does at least flesh out a couple of small subplots and shed new light on certain key scenes. Here we learn why Constanze Mozart bears such ill will towards Salieri when she discovers him at her husband's deathbed, and we see deeper into the reasons why Mozart has no students. The structure of the picture is otherwise unaltered. --Mark Walker

THING COLLECTOR'S EDITION - DVD Movie
Howard Hawks's original 1951 production of The Thing from Another World can be glimpsed playing on a TV that fateful October evening in John Carpenter's blockbuster hit, Halloween (1978). A few years later, Carpenter reteamed with his Escape from New York star Kurt Russell to do a remake. But while the first movie version of The Thing was in atmospheric black and white, Carpenter's 1982 version is in widescreen, full color, and features some of the most revoltingly explicit, surreally imaginative special effects (courtesy of FX-meister Rob Bottin) that have ever been seen on the screen. Researchers in the remote Antarctic dig up the remains of a spacecraft that has long been frozen in the ice. But the alien life unthaws and infects the living (not only humans but sled dogs too), living and gestating inside them. (This horrific concept was also explored in the two versions of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and the Alien movies.) This Thing is chilling in every sense of the word, with plenty of terrifying, adrenaline-pumping moments that build it to a powerful and shockingly nihilistic conclusion. It's a harsh and uncompromising movie (hewing more closely to the original 1930s story "Who Goes There?")--so much so that it probably never would have been given a green-light by any studio in the more cautious and doggedly upbeat 1990s. --Jim Emerson

A sitcom behemoth of the last 10 years, Friends shot out of the gate in 1994 with snappy writing and an attractive cast. The exploits of sensitive paleontologist Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), his obsessive-compulsive sister Monica Geller (Courteney Cox); Monica's roommate Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), a spoiled rich girl trying to live on her own; earthy aromatherapist/masseuse Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow); and Monica's neighbors across the hall-- sarcastic Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry) and his dim-bulb roommate Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) became a nationwide obsession, a pop-culture icon (remember "The Rachel" haircut?) and a top Nielsen hit for its entire run. See the 10 or more seasons club . The first two seasons were mostly centered on the on-off saga of Ross and Rachel, and while their relationship remained a strong presence through romantic rivals and even a baby, the other characters eventually moved from sideshow players into a shared comedic lead. But Friends was not without its heart. Most of the cast had dysfunctional relationships with their parents and went through loss, divorce, marriage, parenthood, and love triangles. The emotional pregnancies of Rachel (by Ross) and Phoebe (surrogate to her half-brother's triplets) won the actresses Emmy Awards, and Joey's tender feelings for Rachel in Season 8 won LeBlanc, the most improved actor in the series, a nomination. Most sitcoms run out of ideas by the fifth season, but Friends gave itself a refreshing jolt the minute Monica and Chandler wound up in bed together. Their budding romance was not only the one of the funniest arcs of the series, but one of the most sentimental, as they planned a wedding, struggled to have a child and eventually turned to adoption. By seasons seven and on, the characters had each "grown up" from young singletons to thirtysomethings finding permanence in their careers and love lives but never losing the laughs. Just friends? See our guide to who kissed whom on Friends. Friends featured a parade of celebrity guests, but unlike Will & Grace, it actually utilized most of the stars as more than cameos: The sextet's parents were all brilliantly cast, particularly Kathleen Turner as Chandler's drag-queen father and Teri Garr as Phoebe's dizzy mom. Everyone from George Clooney to Sean Penn to Julia Roberts to Bruce Willis has appeared on the sitcom, and Tom Selleck certainly enjoyed a career resuscitation after his recurring role as Monica's older man. But no star power ever penetrated the bond between the six stars, and their unmatchable chemistry worked for 10 seasons. Even if the show is on reruns daily, this boxed set of Friends remains watchable over and over again--even if that theme song grates on your nerves. Standout episodes include The One With All The Poker (Season 1), The One With The Birth (1), The One With the Prom Video (2), The One With the Flashback (3), The One Where Monica and Richard are Just Friends (3), The One Where Ross and Rachel Take a Break (3), The One With the Embryos (4), The One With All the Wedding Dresses (4), The One With the Thanksgiving Flashbacks (5), The One Where Everybody Finds Out (5), The One Where Ross Got High (6), The One With the Videotape (8), The One With the Rumor (8), The One With the Male Nanny (9), The One With Rachel's Other Sister (9), The One With Ross' Tan (10), and The One Where the Stripper Cries (10). --Ellen A. Which Cd/dvd Packaging Best Suits My Needs?
Corporate clients have the most interesting ideas for promoting products/concepts on CDs or DVDs. These tend to be the more creative/specialist packaging ideas. If you are at a conference/seminar where CDs & DVDs are handed out, the packaging for this tends to be more standard. For example, if you are mailing CDs or DVDs then you will need more durable/robust packaging e.g. slimline jewel cases, cardboard sleeves, clam/shell cases, trigger cases. It’s best if a list is compiled of each sorts of packaging with a description of where they would be best used.
There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing the correct packaging. If your CD or DVD is being used as a marketing tool, then these tend to be handed out for free or mailing.
You may be doing a promotion to launch your product. Say for example an album - you may have an audio CD with a couple of tracks to be sent to a record company – in this case it is standard that a slimline case, with a printed CD front or colour insert would be ideal. If you have an audio album compilation, then a standard jewel case, which accommodates a front booklet and a rear tray liner/inlay card, is the only suitable option. Audio CDs can come in pretty much any of the wide range of packaging options. If you were giving out your music at the end of a gig, then a cheaper, more effective solution would be to hand out your CD inside a PVC wallet with a colour insert to act as a wrap for the CD.
For a software CD or DVD – DVD cases/boxes are more commonly used. These protect the CD/DVD very well and look more professional with a printed sleeve/wrap to act as a cover along with a printed/burnt image on the CD/DVD. These DVD cases come in different sizes, e.g. slimline cases, short-spine cases, multi-way cases (holds several CDs & DVDs and is perfect when duplicating CD/DVD's for mass distribution). DVD cases can hold booklets inside the front cover too. These act as manuals or user guides to accompany the CD/DVD.
If you are handing CDs or DVDs out at a conference or seminar then, the clam/shell cases are more than suitable as they provide protection and can easily be put inside one’s pocket.
If your CD or DVD needs to accompany a manual or ring binder, then one would use a self-adhesive plastic wallet. This would be stuck inside either front or back covers of the finished document.
If you want your product to make an impact and stand out from the rest, then there are more bespoke packaging solutions. A few examples are:
Hard back cases – Looks like a book but has a tray inside to hold a CD and DVD
Leather Effect Cases – Same principal as the hard back but with leather effect cover
DigiPak – These are made of a thicker board and acts as a soft book. You will find these with many albums you purchase in music stores. Gives a nice smooth, professional finish.
