The friendly home-owning grizzly and his pals celebrate the traditions of a secular Christmas but pay more than a passing nod to both Hanukkah and Kwanzaa in this 50-minute holiday video. Agenda items include a gift exchange and a visit to Santa Hog at the mall, but everything is put in perspective when the household discovers a homeless hound bellowing outside their door. They invite him in, share the holiday, find him a home, and learn a valuable lesson. Meanwhile, "Shadow" shows up to sing about the other two holidays in accompaniment to shadow cutouts. The bear, twin otters, lemur, mouse, and little bear were created by the Jim Henson folks, but they have none of the cleverness or occasional bite of the Sesame Street gang or the Muppets. The earnest Bear is kin to another outsized softie of a (purple) predator; they're both strictly for the kiddies. Ages 2 to 7. --Kimberly Heinrichs
Bear smells the scents of pinecones, mistletoe and holiday cookies in the Big Blue House -- which means it's a special time of year! Bear and his friends learn about the various winter holidays: Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa and Winterberry...but most of all, they learn there is more to the holidays than receiving presents. In fact, the best present ever is seeing someone smile in gratitude after you have just helped him or her. The characters learn this lesson firsthand after helping a homeless dog find a home. Featured songs: "A Berry Bear Christmas," "Holiday for Everyone," "That's All I Want for Christmas," "What If," "Just Listen," "Woodland Valley Carols," "Legend of Winterberry," "What Did I Get For Christmas," "The Best Present Ever" and "Winter Berry Reprise."

The ties between domestic cats and dogs and their wild counterparts are what bind these two programs on one video. To learn why Fido fights and puppies play, Spin--the animated planet guide voiced by Dudley Moore--introduces viewers to wolves, coyotes, African wild dogs, and a bat-eared fox. When Spin isn't drawing comparisons between pet dogs and their ancestors, viewers are treated to specially written pop songs such as "Hey Dog," in which dogs howl the chorus. There's a moving segment featuring a working dog's relationship with the disabled boy he assists. Cats get similar treatment (minus the part about helping people) with Tabby's hunting, clawing, and rubbing habits compared to those of lions, tigers, and other big cats. There are the usual jokes about who owns whom when it comes to the pet cat, and the unavoidable footage of African cats turning wildebeest into breakfast. Gore is kept to a minimum, making this 44-minute installment of the National Geographic kid series appropriate for animal lovers from preschool on up. --Kimberly Heinrichs
There's a tiger in your tabby! And a wolf in Fido's clothing! So says Spin, National Geographic's animated globe-on-the-go. In a whirlwind, worldwide adventure, he's out to prove that our tame house pets have some really rowdy relatives. Spin checks in with South American jaguars, African wild dogs and lions, and North American cougars and coyotes, proving that all cats and dogs are wild at heart. Awesome animal footage and rocking music videos mix the wild with the mild, and show what's behind Rover's growl and Fluffy's meow. So if you've ever wondered what makes all dogs so doggone doggy, and why furry felines can feel ferocious, HOT DOGS & COOL CATS is for you! It's just one of the many Really Wild Animals adventures in this award-winning series.

It's not often the word revolutionary can be associated with duct tape, that old, sticky standby used in plumbing repairs, hockey stick augmentation, and homeland security protection. By getting the gray out--and avoiding the "sore thumb" look of typical duct tape repairs--3M's Scotch Transparent Duct Tape can indeed lay claim to a revolution of the toolbox. But seeing through it is just the start. This duct tape can be easily torn by hand, is UV resistant, and, through accelerated weathering tests, has been shown to last six times longer than its old-school namesake.
Duct tape has been around since 1942 when the military needed a waterproof tape for sealing ammunition boxes. Originally colored green, it was referred to as "duck tape" due to its moisture resistance as well as its cotton duck construction--the same ribbed cloth used in bandages. After the war, it was adopted by contractors working in the booming housing industry, where it got its "duct" name for easily connecting heating and air conditioning ducts. History's fine, but what can 3M's new, clear duct tape do for us? Virtually anything. First, we noticed its powerful stickiness--the roll itself adheres to just about any surface when laid on its side. As advertised, the tape was easily torn from the roll by hand with minimal force. 3M also seems to have ironed out one of the biggest complaints about duct tape: wrinkles. In our testing, we applied it repeatedly and evenly without the tape sticking to itself and without creating odd bumps and creases. And while the tape is rather sticky, it doesn't go overboard, easily lifting off surfaces when we needed it to and not leaving the tacky, viscous residue often found with other duct tapes. As for its transparency, the tape blended well into just about any surface we applied it to. It was never "invisible" but did have the chameleon-like quality of reflecting the surface beneath it and only calling attention to itself when caught in direct light. Also, we placed bands of the tape over our computer monitor before writing this review (don't try this at home, kids). Peering through the fabric ribs was a nuisance, but we were able to compose the description you're now reading. How's that for transparency? Our only complaint is that, as with most transparent tapes, finding where to start peeling the roll can be difficult. While this certainly isn't a showstopper, we did find a solution: mounting the roll onto a tape gun. Tape, by its nature, is not a terribly exciting product (or topic). But 3M's Scotch Transparent Duct Tape is truly a tipping-point entrant, one that may someday become ubiquitous and banish gray duct tape to the nether reaches of our tool sheds, and memories. --Agen G.N. Schmitz Pros: Transparent, easily blends into the surface background Easily torn from the roll with minimal force Sticky, but not too sticky Adheres smoothly without wrinkles or creases Cons: So transparent that finding where to start peeling the roll can be difficult

Family Guy: Volume Two (Season Three)

Studio: Tcfhe Release Date: 10/21/2008
The third and final season of Seth MacFarlane's late, lamented Family Guy finds television's most dysfunctional cartoon family even more animated than usual. As MacFarlane notes in a bonus segment about the controversial series' censorship battles, he was inspired to go for broke, thinking that the series, already juggled like a hot potato in the schedule (at one point, it aired opposite the mighty Friends), had been cancelled. Just as Spinal Tap walked the fine line between "clever and stupid," so did Family Guy gleefully mock the line between "edgy and offensive." Case in point is this set's holy grail: "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein," not aired during the series' original run, in which clueless Rhode Island patriarch Peter Griffin is convinced that if his lumpen son is to be rich and successful, he must become Jewish. Like The Simpsons, Family Guy lends itself to multiple viewings to catch each densely packed episode's way-inside "one-percenter" gags (so-called by the creators because that is the percent of the audience who will get them), scattershot pop-culture references, surreal leaps, and gratuitous pot shots at everyone from, predictably, Oprah, Kevin Costner, and Bill Cosby to, unpredictably, Rita Rudner. Also like their Springfield counterparts, this series benefits from a great ensemble voice cast, with surprising contributions from a no-less-stellar roster of guest stars. Yes, that's actually Kelly Ripa as her "real" self, a heart-devouring alien in "Family Guy Viewer Mail #1," and June Foray popping in as Rocky the Flying Squirrel in "Brian Does Hollywood." Family Guy's stock has recently risen with its addition to Cartoon Network's "Adult Swim" lineup, a much better fit than prime time. To see Peter invite Charles Manson to a party for Sharon Tate ("but only if you don't embarrass me") is to marvel how much of this ever got on the air. Happily, it is on DVD. --Donald Liebenson

Dog Training - Treats
There are many choices when it comes to rewarding your dog with a treat for obeying your commands, and these treats make a big difference in your dog’s attitude towards you in learning new tricks, and why wouldn’t they? To get anything in life you have to give something back and dogs are no different, you help them and they’ll help you. Simple.
But what are the best rewards and treats to give your dog in times of good behavior? Well for starters you won’t be short of treats to try, the markets as it is now is full to the brim of all the fancy rewards and treats you could ever think of.
One of the favourite for dog owners is to treat their dog to homemade treats from recipes that can be found across the internet in many places, some of my favourites and personal recommendations are listed in the products page of www.dog-behavior-training.co.uk along with other tips on dog training there.
Consumer products are also a good choice when rewarding your dog; these include chewing toys which can be very rewarding for puppies and dogs alike. Saving one of their favourite toys for when they behave well makes everything more exciting for your dog and causes them to want to perform more for this reward.
If a chew toy is not to your dogs liking then they may instead enjoy a tug toy, tug toys are good for your dog’s teeth the same as chew toys are and it enhances the relationship between you and your dog as you play with them. Be careful while using these toys as some dogs may think of this game as good behaviour and will start tugging on trousers or other annoying or destructive things.
The last toys I am going to talk about are the throwing toys; these are good to calm your dog down when they are over active or if you just want to reward your dog with quality playing time for their good behavior. These toys range from a simple tennis ball to special durable dog Frisbees and help you to react with your dog wile also training playing the ‘fetch’ game.
There are lots more dog toys available, probably at your local pet shop. It is a good idea to keep in mind what textures and current toys your dog likes to play with or chew before making your choice but as long as your dog enjoys it, it can be used as a good reward and training method.

I have two very small friendly dogs and want to adopt a kitten.. will they get along?
How can I get my two very small dogs and the newly adopted kitten to get along? I'm scared the dogs might scare the kitten, but I really want one. Is there anything I can do to make things easier between the two. My dogs havent ever been around a smaller animal than them.
i always hold the kitten so the kitten is facing you and let the dogs smell the cat. make sure you protect the kitten, though. i then give the kitten a safe place to be, like the bathroom, with their litter box and food and water. keep the door shut for a day or 2 to let the cat adjust then only leave the door open when you can supervise so the animals will get used to each other.
The truth about cats and dogs
Each year thousands of animals are euthanized in St. Tammany Parish alone. Jessica Harris, adoptions counselor of the St. Tammany Humane Society takes her job very seriously. She works hard to make sure that every animal has a chance at getting a home. Like Harris, the employees and volunteers at the Humane Society find the opportunity to “save a life” very rewarding.
